You demonstrated quite clearly that the best asset to overcoming difficult survival situations is keeping a positive mental outlook & attitude - a great lesson for all.Really enjoyed your adventure despite the kayak puncture debacle.Well done and thank you.
I had a rubber doll that leaked air from day one, so I called the supplier and said 'that doll keeps going down on me'! He said' well, in that case we must have sent you the deluxe edition by mistake, so you owe us another hundred quid mate'!
You always bring something cool to the table and i truly enjoy every adventure you present and inspire me to do more myself. Thanks for sharing and Greetings from WW2HH
Thanks, I have just found your channel and you have inspired me to get out with my metal detector in search of WW2 relics. Been collecting dust in the closet for years so thanks my friend. ATB, Damian.
What a challenging trip but you stuck it through which is top class. I did chuckle though every time the kayak squeaked hitting the rocks ;) Many thanks for sharing your time out Damo ~Peace~
Thanks Zed, deep down if the kayak failed I knew I could of just walked home so felt ok and was quite cheerful, might have been different if it had gone total belly up miles from anywhere. Was more worried about slipping on rocks, knocking my head and drowning, especially being alone so made the decision to end the trip half way home. ATB mate and thanks for watching. Damian.
So many are losing out, Not following the antics of our Fell wanderer! I was laughing so enjoying this video. Your a natural wild camper. Damian Good on you cheers
Another very entertaining video much enjoyed. Your a very witty and funny fella Damien. Keep them vids coming we all enjoy them very much. Cant wait for the next one. ***********************
You're welcome Sir! Just keep'em comin'! I especially like the wild camping stuff you do in the woods a lot! I've done a lot of wild camping here in Norway as well. I'm in a process of buying a decent video camera and want to share some of my experiences too in the future. I must ask; What's the software you use for editing your videos? And: God jul to you too!
The editing software I use is Adobe Premiere Pro and being professional level, its considered hard to use at first, involving a steep learning curve but well worth the time and effort as you will soon out grow more basic video editors such as Windows Movie maker. Atb
Thoroughly enjoyed this tricky adventure, rather amusing in places too. Ha ha. I was thinking of getting a kayak but I’ve changed my mind now. Very good video.
Thank you Paul, pleased you enjoyed the video. I nearly didn't video after the puncture on the kayak as I was so deflated, pardon the pun lol.. it was a good memory even though it wasn't what I'd expected. ATB.
I had my kyack deflate on me in the middle of a local lake - bad times!! I now carry a mini puncture repair kit which I have duck taped inside the seating conpartment in case I get caught out again :). You my friend are a "rock star" lol
your strength of character got put to the test big time damian. you hardly flickered or if you did you hid it well. that's what you call a walk down the river Wansbeck. cheers
Thanks mate, I wasn't that far from home really but was more concerned about slipping and hitting my head off a rock. I nearly didn't film either but looking back pleased I did cause it was still a good trip and an adventure. ATB, Damian.
Happy memories watching this. I was born in Ashington and grew up in Stakeford. Spent many, many days on that river. I remember fishing that stretch under the Bridge all the way down to Sheepwash when I was a member of that club. I haven’t seen the river up that stretch for over 30 years, makes me a little homesick
ta for taking us along on the adventure, lovely scenery and architecture. a great film,. just watching you towing boat and wondering where Katharine Hepburn is. atb. jB
I nearly didn't film as I was sick as a chip with the puncture but realised it would be a memory, good or bad. So pleased I captured it now, thanks for watching. ATB, Damian.
Nice one Damian!! Looks like the boat has seen better days mate...lol if you are looking at swapping it, the sevylor Hudson is a reasonable choice mate. Keep em coming pal, they're always good entertainment. All the best! Andy.
Man i love your vids hehe. Been watching for a couple years now and finally got around to making a youtube account. Keep them coming coz your banter is superb!
Thanks Martin, I under estimated how low the water in the river was, if I had put my bag in the front of the kayak so distributed the weight evenly, then I may have avoided being too low in the water and getting stuck. Also I had duct tape so could have slowed down the leak but had so much going on so was pre occupied with filming didn't think of it. Every trip is a learning curve thats why I enjoy doing what I do, thanks for watching.. Damian.
Has anyone ever told you that you sure do got a purdy mouth boy?...Weee Weee..Ha ha.. Deliverance, great film. Beautiful river but hard work. Great vid.
Haha brilliant video Damien on how not to do it, your perseverance and wit were second to none mate I think you walked your canoe twice as far as you paddled it lol, a little tip, Puncture repair kit, but you still cracked on and had an experience, nice one, cheers, atb, Paul.
Hello Damian' flipping hell what a nightmare getting down the Wannie in the Mayfly! you done it though!! very welcome to the hammock chair matey' I hope it serves it purpose for many a moon! atb Davie
Thanks Davie, the hammock chair is very comfortable. Wanted to link to your channel as John said you were planning to start one up. Just found it now so will put an anotation in my video and description, ATB, Damian.
+Fell Wanderer again your very welcome my friend' I'm humbled to be linked via your channel' I'm still to get videos done due to lack of time' although I did a 2 nighter last week on our coast line eating what I caught and drinking the cliff water ' was only nipping out for a few hours but the first catch of the day prompted me to stay' I was only able to take a few pics as I didn't have the the power resources' slept in a cave' it was a great time!
Haha what a palava Damian. Looked a right chowing but well done in persevering when many including me would have given up. Did the same trip as a youngster, went from Morpeth to the steppy stones on an old barn door. The river was a lot higher then and they have made it worse by breaking the salmon jump. Great and entertaining video as always. Atb. Mick.
Thanks Mick, I thought a flood damaged the salmon jump so what happened mate?.. was it to allow more migrating fish up the river?. There was about 5 of us on our epic trip up the Wannie, we paddled on canoes bought from a guy in Guidepost, they were all leaky and each one cost a tenner. We later heard they were all stolen from the YMCA so I got rid of mine, can't remember if I got my money back it was 30 years ago so only remember bits. I got a load of fishing gear out the trees on our journey to Bothal from Sheepwash, there was mepps spinners, bubble floats and hooks lost by other anglers so felt good that day not having to buy fishing gear for ages after that lol. Wish I could go back in time and be a boy again we had so much fun on that river lol.. atb, Damian.
Thanks Mick, had a look and if it lets fish pass easily then its a good thing but they have spoiled the look of the river and a bit of history. They could have modified the weir to let fish pass and preserve the look. I fish up there and have spoiled it for me with the water levels
Lmao....Hi Damian Laughed so hard at this vid....i did the same thing last month.......took my boat out on the wear and kept getting stuck on the river bed lol............although my boat wasn't punctured lol Brilliant video mate. All the best........................Mick
Thanks Mick, I think the puncture has come from improper storage of the boat. The hole is on a fold line, I should have rolled it up rather than folding too much so thats something to be aware of mate. The water was too low for kayaking but If I had distributed the weight better by putting my bag up front I wouldn't have been as low in the water and might have not hit ground as much. ATB, Damian.
Thanks Muss, I nearly didn't film the trip after the puncture but realised it was still a wild camping adventure and wanted the capture the memory come what may. Turned out to be very enjoyable once I found a camp and dried off. ATB, Damian.
Great video, brilliant commitment to the end. I would have placed the pump between my thighs an blew the boat up as I went along to the tune of, Lord take me to the river the beautiful the beautiful river. Atb Chiefy
Ive later found out it was to allow salmon and sea trout better passage up the river. As far as Morpeth flood defense goes, once the river rises to the height of the weir, the water will flow over and would not cause problems for Morpeth because it is on a higher elevation. Thanks for watching..
haha sorry couldn't help but laugh! me and my partner attempted the same trip from Mitford to Sheepwash last summer, left mitford around 10am and had to take an early exit at bothal cos of incoming darkness. what a misery that day was wading along the length of the wansbeck with a kayak in tow 😂😂 Excellent video congrats for still being able to laugh :p
I could have bailed out earlier and went home but that would have only been half the adventure. It was a difficult trip with all the walking and dragging the kayak through shallow water, dangerous at times with trip and fall hazzards. So pleased it was recorded because the memory has faded and watching makes me relive and chuckle
some of the best vids on TH-cam! you need to be on the TV feller! 'this is where it's at' in HD! Made my day feller! keep putting these on TH-cam, some of your best stuff, and Funniest, is when it goes pear shaped! 99 out of 100 would've jibbed it, not our wanderer tho! ur a hero!!
Ye smiled in the face of adversity mate... Good on ye... A beautiful spot you eventually found.. Worth all the effort I bet? It must be a Sevylor thing!! I had a right ole adventure on a wild camp last year.. Had to stow it in the hedge in the end and look for it the next day.. Long long night that was... Like you say tho... It's still a memory to capture and be able to watch back.. Which I did after watching this..👍🏽 ATB - Marcus
great vid! you wouldn't believe that me and a friend actually did the rock art! lol. can't be;ive there still standing we did them 4 weeks ago! their just befor the viaduct arn't they. keep up the good work.
Hi Steve, that is the location so must be your work. Shame it will be gone once a flood comes along but at least I captured it for TH-cam, thanks for watching.. Damian.
hi, im new to youtube and think your programms are great.i live at ch le st. i have a open canoe and love it, im also planning to canoe wild camp on wallaby island on loch lomond and other places ect ulswater. thanks steve
Nice vid, that's the Fell Wanderer we all know...be careful with that kayak, people may get the wrong idea and you could be arrested for what you were doing to it!!! lol, thank's for sharing.
sorry but i had to laugh at your mishaps, we all have them i love your look on life you are a top top man keep up the great vidoes they are always a great joy to watch atb mad trapper
Hi Damian I’m planning a kayak and camping trip up the wannie next week, what do you recommend bivvy tarp or tent, just worried that I won’t find a flat spot for tent. Advice much appreciated atb Andy 😉
Sorry for the late reply, water is so low this time of year, its hard to kayak anywhere on the Wansbeck. The barkwood is deep but difficult to get out the water onto dry land but is possible in places. Theres a place at NZ 24533 85743 upstream from the Anglers Arms pub, Sheepwash. You could pitch tents or bivvies there. Further upstream to Bothal and beyond, the water is too low. If you watched my video called river Wansbeck kayak and wild camp, you will see the hassle I had travelling downstrean from Morpeth due to lack of water. The river south of Sheepwash bridge is ok but too many people and you wont have any privacy camping. Good luck, hope it works out for you.
@@Fell_Wanderer thanks Damian, yeah found a really good spot not far down stream of bothal on the south side, only thing is two fishermen told me I wasn’t allowed to kayak on the stretch just up from the anglers??
Its called the private stretch below the stepping stones at Bothal so no fishing or kayaking allowed. I have canoed down there as a kid and noone said anything to me. I used to worry about pissing the fishermen off when I got to the Barkwood which is WAA water.
I have a bit of a fetish for rubber and PVC, so being on top of her was giving me strange thoughts of an adult nature and getting hot under the collar so had to exercise self-restraint as it was all being filmed for TH-cam. Atb, Damian.
Inflatables are delicate you should never lurch forward to try work the boat forward in them. I think the first thing was deflate the boat & put the right tube under water with stones & add some air then roll it about & find the leak.keep a little bit of fairy liquid for this leak detection on an inflatable trip. Where did you start stop etc as I'd like to try this trip in my inflatable.prob end up carrying it the same as you did but hey what's the good trips without the bad ones. Really good videos I'm glad your a patient person it takes that in this sort of trip.
Damian, cheers for that video! You always seem to have good laugh. I kayak a lot with a sit on top and you have encouraged me to do a bit of wild camping. I got a lot of stuff from army surplus, seems decent stuff. What do think of them MSR pocket rockets? Duane, Teesside.
I've never used those small gas stoves as I don't like buying bottled gas but they are convenient as lots of people use them and heat stuff up quite quick. Depends where you want to go?.. in the woods solid fuel tabs or buddy burners with a few twigs suits me but up a cold windy mountain they arent much good as well as a small meths stove, so a gas burner may be the way forward but I've not much experience with them. I have the Colemans 533 dual fuel stove which runs on petrol and I like that because its easier to get hold of compared to bottled gas.
That film epitomizes what people like about you Damian, You just don't know when you are beaten & you are not afraid to laugh at yourself. Many people would have classed your trip as an epic fail & not posted the video as a result but not you mate. The good thing was that you found a great spot to camp in the end that you may not have found on foot. Take care & all the best, Neil.
Thanks Neil that means a lot. I was disapointed by not fishing and catching a trout but had so much going on and trying to film it all etc.. I was cheesed off with the whole situation but wanted to capture the moment so plodded on trying to be positive, deep down I knew I could ditch the boat and walk home. Was more concerned about a serious accident, falling on rocks and banging my head so ended the journey half way. You are right I still found a lovely place to camp, atb.
Yeah where you been Fellwanderer lol. Another good video mate quirky and entertaining as usual. Nothing worse than a puncture in any inflatable thingy.
The salmon jump didn't collapse, it was knocked down by the council. Something to do with allowing more fish up the river. At least that's what i heard.
I get stopped sometimes but usually people just stare, it started happening about 2 years ago, I thought it was people being ignorant until I realised they were looking because they recognised me. I get positive comments though but ocassionally kids will take the piss and shout have you found Bigfoot yet?.. lol...
Great vid Damien but i did feel sorry for you with the mayfly deflating and running aground all the time but she still looks in good nick apart from the leak mate . A wee bit of work and she will be sea worthy again and ready for more adventures . Cheers an atb
You demonstrated quite clearly that the best asset to overcoming difficult survival situations is keeping a positive mental outlook & attitude - a great lesson for all.Really enjoyed your adventure despite the kayak puncture debacle.Well done and thank you.

you've more patients than me, I'd have spat the dummy right at the start and given the boat a full on viking funeral. 😁

Funny video, should of gone down West Midlands on the Severn there's plenty of water in that river lol.i bet you mate was pissing his self laughing.
My goodness that is a shallow river. Not sure I should even call it a river. You did good to keep it together through all that.
Was filmed in summer time when the river level was low. Other times its a lovely place to kayak
I watched pretty closely. I believe you missed three rocks with the inflatable. 🤣
Thanks for taking us with you on Adventure May Fly. I'm sure it was tough but you still managed to make it look like fun.

Another great adventure Damian! Thanks!!
If you use the other hole in that yelow pump it deflates the boat and sucks all ther air out insted of laying on it. lol Great video 👍🏻
Thats a good idea, never thought at the time to deflate with the pump. Thanks for watching, ATB, Damian.
I used to worry about pissing the fishermen off when I got to the Barkwood which is WAA water.
where have you been I thought you give up on us and stopped recording
Been busy lately but I've done a couple of camping trips and go quiet on here when I'm editing. Thanks for watching.. Damian.
was worth it to watch you wrestle it at the end. half expected to see you give it a couple of sly digs haha. ATB, Mike
I have a bit of a fetish for rubber and PVC, so being on top of her was giving me strange thoughts of an adult nature and getting hot under the collar so had to exercise self-restraint as it was all being filmed for TH-cam. Atb, Damian.
+Fell Wanderer hahah I thought I'd seen a mask in your pack in an old vid
that was my gimp mask lol
+Fell Wanderer complete with ball gag
Brilliant - congratulations on persevering :) I would have been saying "B****r" etc every time I grounded !
Yeah where you been Fellwanderer lol. Another good video mate quirky and entertaining as usual. Nothing worse than a puncture in any inflatable thingy.
Awesome video same as always watch these all day
The salmon jump didn't collapse, it was knocked down by the council. Something to do with allowing more fish up the river. At least that's what i heard.
For the very reason outlined here (punctures!), is why I went and got trained on and purchased a 'real' kayak. Fun to watch tho!
just down the road from me :). well done man nice vids! im pretty sure i walked past you the other week haha
I get stopped sometimes but usually people just stare, it started happening about 2 years ago, I thought it was people being ignorant until I realised they were looking because they recognised me. I get positive comments though but ocassionally kids will take the piss and shout have you found Bigfoot yet?.. lol...
Where do you live and where did you see me?.. was it you shouting, "have you found Bigfoot yet" lol...
Mate you are a legend I’m pissing myself here, patients of an angel 😇 I would of binned that after 5 minutes
Great vid Damien but i did feel sorry for you with the mayfly deflating and running aground all the time but she still looks in good nick apart from the leak mate . A wee bit of work and she will be sea worthy again and ready for more adventures . Cheers an atb
Damian you deserve a medal mate, thanks for persevering & making the video for us to share. atvb t ..
