Today I take a look at three different vintage style Star Wars Death Star droids from Stan Solo. The vintage Death Star Droid action figure is a tough one to get with the chrome still looking good. Now you can get a mint looking version along with a black and a gold version. Let's take a closer look.

NICE. Stan Solo does it again!
Regarding the gold DSD: there's a section of the SW fandom that insist the Sandcrawler DSD was actually gold, and that the gold is wearing off, and they point to behind-the-scenes shots of the slightly-yellowed droid as "proof." I think this figure is a way of addressing that fan base. (Also, the OTC Sandcrawler toy from 2004 came with a battered golden RA-7 droid, so this could aslo be a retro-styled homage to that.)
Personally, I've always thought the RA-7 DSD in the Sandcrawler was silver, with a bit of light rusty weathering on it. And now you've also got KMD-RA-71 in "Rogue One," which is just the black-and-silver Kenner figure translated BACK onto the silver screen, so now we've gone full circle, and I think I need a beer and a lie-down . . . .

I picked up 6 Stan Solo figures at the beginning of the month, along with a drink tray for R2-D2. Absolutely wonderful quality. I cannot recommend Stan Solo enough.

The droid in the sandcrawler scene in actually pale gold. Kenner made the toy in silver, and the mandala effect means that everyone remembers that droid as silver...

those are cool. though I do think the silver or black eyes on the gold version would just make it pop that much more. I know hasbro did do a sorta vac-metal off-black version in the potf2 line which is one of my fav droid figures .as it has those silver eyes too. I'm 99% sure I have a original vintage kenner one I got from ebay a few years ago but had to fix up the black paint on .

On the loose joints on the vintage one could that be to the chrome wearing off in the joints (assuming the parts were chromed before assembly)?
