Thank you Tony for your honest opinion and great video bro.
The views and opinions of the Anti Reproduction collectors just dont hold water for me.
There is no deceiving here with my figures, as you said, all my figures are marked. All my cardbacks are marked, did I have to do that???? No...
The only people who are damaging the hobby and taking the fun out of it are the ANTI-REPRODUCTION people but they can't see it.
    Thanks again
    Chris (Stan Solo) 👊🏽💥

@@Chris365Smith Ignore these trolls. These type of collectors are what have ruined the fun. I would be willing to bet these same people whining and crying about what you are doing are the same ones that will go out and buy as many "must have" toys and re-sell them on ebay at 4x the retail price. You keep doing what you are doing, and enjoy it. I have been collecting since 1982 when I first saw ROTJ when I was 4 years old and have not stopped.

A question, if I dare since both sides in this issue seems rather angry and hostile. Does Chris Smith mark the weapons/accessories aswell? That is the only point I can see the repro haters have if he doesnt. The quality of the reproweapons these days are really high and it does matter if you get a genuine, original pop up lightsaber for your original r2 in the same way that I expect an original Degas, not a well made copy, when I buy and pay for an original Degas. And I think all of you know that.

Once a skeptical purist Vintage collector myself, i changed my mind through watching analog toys and retroblasting. I own a smith Lord Pop-Up R2 and it is fantastic! Guys should relax and enjoy the Awesome Fanmade stuff, which enrichens every collection. To be honest: i like the Retro Collection too, as the old stuff won‘t Last forever and so some of my Most favorite figures are now fresh out of the packaging.

Completely agree with your take on the Star Wars collecting scene, I wouldn't worry about the hater's over on Echo. As they are never happy about anything! At the end of the day we are all just collecting what we like and can afford. These are just TOYS and are meant to be handled and enjoyed. Not entombed in acrylic coffin's and put on display in glass cabinets! Lol Keep up the excellent reviews, all the best! 👍

Just look at The Mandalorian. That show is not a cash grab like the new trilogy; Jon Favreau is a fan making a show inspired by Star Wars, not Episode IV of a three part trilogy, but the film Star Wars from 1977. It is evident in the cinematography, along with the unique score, Favreau has love for the IP. Dave Faloni turned the Prequels into more intense movies by his work on the Clone Wars.
Kenner did great things, then Hasbro put a leash on them, and we have crap today!

Thanks for such a fun video!
Sometimes fan made customs are the only way such fans can ever get a figure for their fave characters.
The droids are one of the best ideas from Star Wars. My own faves are: R2-D2 , K-2SO, & 2-1B.
From this video, R2-Q2, R2-Q5, R3-Y2. The Yavin Ceremony C-3PO is certainly worth a look.
The R2 class astromechs are definitely more insteresting than the BB-2 class seen in the sequel trilogy.
Hope you can do other custom figures from other lines like G. I. Joe in the future.
Its dumb that the purists are so dense that they can't accept the fact that there are fans who can Macgyver their own figures. As long as there are no legal hassles from 20th Century Fox/Disney/ and Lucasfilm, then all's good.
Appreciate your honesty about which figures didn't suit your taste.

Wow! Because I don't engage with any kind of message boards or things of that nature, it always amazes me when you read out comments like that. Do these people really feel that they have some kind of ownership of these properties? What more can @Chris Smith do than clearly mark his products as repro's. It really isn't that hard to understand that the values are not an issue as collectors of vintage will always seek out the originals and should know the difference anyway!!! If my niece's and nephews want figures that they normally wouldn't be able to get, then why shouldn't they have somewhere that they can buy them? Love your work Chris Smith. Thanks for a great video Tony, all the best mate.

You are totally right. Chris is tapping on our inner child wish list and best of luck to him. I always wanted loads of Droids but couldn't see the point of collecting doubles of the few they did make. Also the Rebel Ships crew of A new hope. Kenner missed out there!
I know Toy Polloi already said it and the figures are clearly marked in or out of the box. They are not original series so it wouldn't effect the Rare buyers. They are under the impression that younger collectors wi;; see their see stuff as overpriced and devalue their collections. I don't think that would be the case. Collect for your own pleasure and memories, I do!

Great video! Awesome works of art Chris Smith! As a vintage collector I love being able to expand the universe with these figures and fill out my dioramas by including these versions. This is a hobby, we should all be open to collecting how we want to collect (and be ok with others doing the same). Sure we need to be mindful that some may attempt to pass off repros as the real deal but outside of those scenarios let us just enjoy the experience of building our collections.

I cant believe someone would have the audacity to send such a negative message. Personally, I love the Stan Solo stuff, having received my first order this week, and immediately placing another order. On the strength of this Video, Tony, I will no doubt go for more.
The irony is, the one company that ruined the line was Hasbro themselves. And as Michael at RB says, the fans ARE doing the best work. And as such, I have no issue in supporting that work. Hasbro's retro collection is a nice idea orchestrated poorly. As soon as I saw Stan Solo's Yak Face, I was hooked. Anti Repro bitterness is unwarranted and the best stance to take is just to let them throw their originals out of the pram and have their hissy fit. True fans of that original Kenner / Palitoy aesthetic will always want to side with quality products, made with the love and passion that permeates every facet of the Stan Solo creations. More please!

That was a very fun and informative video. I had no idea such fresh new work was being done in the Vintage arena. It is certainly tempting for me but I don't know if I want to open that door. I agree with everything else you said especially where these vintage repros are concerned and that shameful Bespin play set.
The only part where we might not see eye to eye is that I might be a bit more forgiving of the red protocol droid's design. His has always been a favorite. I can though see how it translates into a bit of a blah figure.
That new C-3PO with the silver leg is absolutely phenomenal. That is the C-3PO I've looked for all my life and it would certainly displace my vintage one if I still had such a collection. Again, there's that door calling to me...!

I agree with you about the Yavin C3PO. The original with the paler finish reminds me of Episode IV when C3PO was on Tatooine. So don't delete the original from your display just yet. I am not a toy collector, but I have a collection of 5600+ items. Although I obviously prefer not to have repros, I may puchase them as long as they are priced as such. The trouble I have is when repros are sold as genuine. Your hobby is fortunate to have honest brokers who are up front about their wares. I wish I was as fortunate.

Too stuff as always Tony! I hate this attitude that some people have, and it's across a lot of hobbies. • @mechamanblade8465
    @mechamanblade8465 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Did Kenner ever release these Droids in the original Star Wars line? I think they look fantastic. If anything, the repros help expand and enhance an already vintage collection. Don't be discouraged by the nay sayers. Many of them would probably jump at the chance to own a reproduction Rocket Firing Boba Fett.

  • @TheRealGreeble
    @TheRealGreeble 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Repro figures give people a chance to complete their collection without breaking the bank as collecting for most adults is a continuation of their childhood collection. As for harming the original collecting scene, I'd say no repro can truly beat that special feeling of owning something authentic that has a history to it. However there are some original figures that just aren't worth the stupid money they are marked up for like the blue snag, and it's great to have the option to still have one in the collection.

Reproductions are made predicated on one premise. Accessibility. Anyone complaining about repros are more than likely market speculators who value of the fiscal worth of any given object, rather than the emotional value that these objects bring to collectors. Best to ignore the detractors and just Colle t whatever you want. You don't like them? Then it's not for you. If you do, support the artists making them.

What’s destroying the hobby are ridiculous prices for some figures. I understand it if a figure is very rare or not often for sale like a vinyl cape Jawa or tri logo Boba Fett which are understandably high prices. But Yak Face is not rare, there’s lots of them coming up regularly on eBay. What also destroys the hobby are the people who seem to hike up for e.g - Yak face prices for the fun of it in order to keep their own figures worth the money. I think it is the so called ‘elite ‘ collectors keeping the figures high prices to protect their own “investment “. It shouldn’t be about money but about the hobby ,the nostalgia and the fun. I actually think I will go for a smithlord Yakface as they are cheaper but exactly the same.

  • @TroyPacelli
    @TroyPacelli 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Yeah, I can't even engage with the zealots who are so anti-repro. First, no real collector could ever confuse a Stan Solo repro for a vintage figure. Second, Hasbro's distribution system is atrocious making it almost impossible to find those figures unless you pay double and triple on the secondary market. They should turn their vitriol towards the scalpers and Hasbro. As Retroblasting says, "The fans are doing the best work." This is where the hobby is now. Welcome to the maker era.

really great video and a cool exploration of these sweet custom figures! I've have come to my own conclusion when it comes to repro figures. While I am not a purely retro/vintage collector, I do appreciate the number of people who collect that line. However, at the end of the day they are toys. They are meant to be enjoyed! With how rare some of them are today, few people can enjoy them. these repro's, so long as they do not try to pass themselves off as the vintage figures (and therefore rip people off) are great ways for collectors, young and old, to enjoy them. I think it's nonsense to be so upset with the people putting the work in to create copies for the people who can't drop $1000 on one figure.
Anyway, that's just the way I see it.

What I hear when people say, "They're taking the fun out of this hobby!", is "They're reducing the value of my rare figures!"
Speaking as a Transformers collector, we have been dealing with repro's, KO's, customs, and reissues for at least 2 decades now, and as far as I can tell, it hasn't taken away any of the allure the vintage figures hold. No matter how many reissues they make, collectors will always want a vintage Optimus Prime, or whatever.
We've just had word that Hasbro may be reissuing some of the hard to get Japanese exclusive figures. Speculation runs from the remaining two Dino Cassettes, Targetmaster Artfire, and Headmaster Jr. Minerva. All of which will cost quite a chunk of change for a legit vintage figure.
In my own collection I have a complete in box Overlord figure, who is quite hard to come by in North America, and was quite expensive. If he got reissued, would the value of my vintage one be reduced? Probably. Would I care? Not really. I'd be more happy that more people would have the opportunity to add this fantastic figure to their collection.
Only the "Alpha Nerds" get upset at the thought that the "prestige" of their hard to get figures will be tarnished.

GI JOE collecting is affected by this, too. One (formerly) major fan site's facebook tried to dox a factory customs maker in hopes of Hasbro going after him. The cry "makes it hard for new collectors" and "they'll get swindled by resellers". Yeah, well, where's their stance against recarding? Non-existent as far as I know.

It's funny because I HATED that droids tv show as a kid, but I really like the look of the droid cartoon style C3P0 and R2D2.

The transformers community went through this 3rd party issue a decade ago. People got really nasty but eventually came around to the fact that Hasbro / Takara aren't gonna make the products the fans want. Now, 3rd party is firmly established and quality products are recognised. Quality and demand will out in the end. Don't give the haters the oxygen

I haven't heard much hate about the Hasbro Sail Barge other than price and availability. The Hasbro Jabba's palace has been marked down since last X-mas around $19.99 or $25.99 recently, stacks of them at Wal-mart. Yeah, a few complaints out there but you get 2 carded figures with it. I love the repros and I like lots of Hasbro products as well.

When people start realizing that there are repro sellers claiming to have authentic vintage items particularly weapons and accessories that float I think they will lay off of hating Stan Solo a bit.
Also the fans strike back bantha didn’t go well as we now know so piss on them.
Also also if Chris Smith ever reads this I would like to throw my name in the vote for a Y wing pilot figure. Pretty please. :)

so as a rule i don't collect customs,i am lucky enough to still have all my Star Wars toys from my childhood plus the weapons(and after finding out how the"elitist"collectors community have been treating the rest,IE,normal toy collecting community i was seriously considering snorting a line of vintage blasters just in a live stream to spite them),but i have always appreciated customs(especially the Action Force ones,oh what we could have gotten in a wave 3)....HOWEVER HOW FREAKING AWESOME IS THAT BOBA FETT R2 UNIT,SERIOUSLY ITS SO COOL,LIKE HOW DO YOU MAKE BOBA FETT EVEN MORE DEADLY?,GIVE HIM THE STAR WARS EQUIVALENT OF A SWISS ARMY KNIFE....anyway you may have just converted me

u know what someone should do with 3d printing closer to the film weapons instead of just the same imperial blasters, endor , jabba blaster over and over maybe hand painted but have to fit the figures might be a lot of work but it would be fun (you could use the Potf weapons as a bases just came to me

Never buy toys as an investment, they are for enjoyment. As of late Hasbro want your money by using every sales trick in the book and doing very little exciting work to deserve loyalty, especially lately. Have fun with the stuff from the new guys and support them because they will offer new items that do not need to be made in such massive quantities. They're the exciting new niche market.

Great video! I'm curious if these are factory manufactured figures and if they will hold up to prolonged use? I know some Super 7 ReAction figures split at the hips if you bend the legs. I'd like to be able to display these loose with the old vehicles and playsets but if they are on the fragile side, I'd probably keep them carded. But great looking product!

They're not fragile at all. I have all of the ones Tony reviewed here and they're equal to the Kenner build from the classic line. The joints are tight and the removable limbs fit very tightly. I have them displayed with Kenner originals and they look like they were part of the line. I love these and hope Chris Smith continues producing more figures.

I bought the whole set from Fans and 2 other custom Boba's.... I started when Hasbro started with the Retro line and even into the second wave I'm yet to see one of the Hasbro's in the wild. The board games were no fun. Was hoping though for an original trilogy cardboard set like they did for Solo. Instead, have been picking those up custom too. I wouldn't mind seeing a Hylobon Enforcer one day.

People talk about these customs and repros ruining the hobby. In my opinion, people with a stick up their ass is what is ruining the hobby. All of those people who hate what Mr. Smith and others like him are doing are just jealous and bitter because they don't have the skill to make these themselves. Producing figures that Kenner/Palitoy never produced isn't hurting anything. Hell, when I was six years old in 1978, even I recognized the lack of characters available... not to mention the garbage that Hasbro is currently producing (the half-bridge to nowhere comes immediately to mind). People need to lighten up. The people making these custom figures aren't just doing we collectors a service, but they're likely bringing more people into the hobby. Thank you Tony for making this video.

Another great video by analogue toys .like most things in life money is king and that's what the anti reproduction squad care about they are looking on in despair as the figures they spent hundreds on are being devalued by the the cheaper reproductions well to bad .having recently acquired Luke and han from stan solo I can honestly say these are a fantastic product at a price that's accessible to all so keep up the great work at analogue toys and stan solo keep giving us more of your quality products. 👍
