  • Umar ibn Abdul Aziz, the fifth righteous Caliph, ruled the Umayyad Caliphate from 717 to 720 CE. Known for his piety and administrative reforms, he sought to emulate the first four caliphs.
Umar ibn Abdul Aziz implemented significant economic and social reforms, including the fair distribution of wealth, the reduction of heavy taxes, and the liberation of slaves.
His emphasis on justice and adherence to Islamic principles earned him widespread respect. He curtailed the luxurious lifestyle of the Umayyad elite, promoting a simpler, more austere way of living.
Umar also initiated educational and religious reforms, commissioning scholars to compile Hadiths and ensuring that Islamic teachings were accessible. Despite his short reign, his legacy as a model of Islamic leadership and governance endures, leaving a lasting impact on the Muslim world.
