to be fair though, a lot of people do judge a book by it's cover, you can't tell me you've never looked at something that has looked shitty to you, and called it as such, and then proceeded to never look or think about it ever again. hell i took one look at the show called reboot and I think it looks like ass (still do actually ) but apparently it was revolutionary and gamebreaking to the cgi crowd who loved cgi shows, and actually did it right. point is, looks do matter, to a very degree, but luckily their will always be those who are able to look past that artificial barrier and discover something great.
Well, obviously his drawing skills improved a lot. I wouldn't say they're that great though, but what matters in the end of the day is the plot. But you gotta admit the art style in the beginning was pretty shit, no wonder he was rejected before
Say what you want, but to me this man is a genius. He has a story that delivers a strong message, with its supporting themes and character depth we usually don't see in this medium. And I am certain, a year from now once the final chapter hits, this story will become a modern masterpiece.
He isn't a genius. Or even if he is, I don't believe you have to be a genius to create such a story. I think there are a lot of factors involved in its creation but having a good story and the perseverance to keep going is extremely important. Anyone can do it, that is, if they try hard enough.
@The D4C Gang Yeah, I kind of agree. In hindsight, not everyone will be able to due to several factors. But I didn't think you needed to be a "genius" to do it. But talent and hard work do play a huge role, and so does luck. You're right on that. I didn't really mean that anyone can make "AoT 2". I wanted to say that I don't think you need a "genius" just to make a story like this, but doing it and creating a successful manga out of it... Well, that's way harder and takes even more luck. I agree on that.
@The D4C Gang Oh, and I disagree about the "imagination is a talent and not the result of hard work" (did you mean "creativity"?). Some may be more cretive than others, and genetics play a role in it but you can become more creative.

Attack on Titan has one of the most complex plots I've ever seen, with incredible characters and awesome development for each one. Keep up the good work, Isayama-sensei!
The human imagination is vast and endless. Hats off to this man! Everytime AOT comes into my mind, I can't help but to be in awe of the twists and turns, conflicts and resolution, and how the anime relates to real life situations. I hope he'll receive the recognition he deserves, as well as those who were behind the success of this show. 🙌
This right here is the proof that anyone can succeed. Listen carefully how he talks about him not being very academic, not doing well in school, him getting criticized for his drawing style and every publisher rejecting him for it and him having a really low self-esteem. All of those things would make you think he would have no chance of success with this story yet somehow he managed to pull it off. Things really aren't black&white and success isn't either. There was a hidden genius inside Isayama all this time and he just had to find it and believe in himself.
I admire managakas so much, they have to not only write the story but draw it as well. Specially the underdogs, the ones who got rejected by x reason until one publisher gives them a chance and it turns out the storyline, character, design and art are incredible, it was just in the wrong hands.
It depends, when you’re at school it’s a must to learn things even if you don’t like them or are good at but Hajime enjoys writing and drawing so having to comprehend “politics” in the way to adapt it to his manga, must be fun to learn that way :)
You do realize a lot of writers do a shit ton of research for the story they're going to write? So maybe Isayama just read a shit ton of books about politics lol.
This is why I always tell anime starters to watch things like death note as their first anime and leave stuff like attack on Titan when you are an experienced anime watcher. Attack on Titan is such a complex story so if you watch that first other animes with less complex story lines will feel mediocre because you didn’t have that same feeling you did with aot

You cant just say it's easy to think of specially when it takes you atleast 2 or 3 times to reread the story just to understand it fully.
@@hi_238 aot hasnt that realistic philosphy at all. U may find there are some contrary interest or objetives between character. But most philosophy is superficial in aot. I admit his drawing pushes me away so many time from the manga, it’s the anime drew me in again, and I’m happy I didn’t missed this masterpiece. The depth, character development and the philosophy behind it is so relevant to our world. As he rightly put, the idea of the story is universal. I thank you for not giving up, and thank the publisher for not giving this gem a missed opportunity
What I learnt from AOT : 1. Perspective from different points of view. 2. Seeking common ground instead of hating and fighting. 3. Dangers of indoctrination and ignorance. 4. A government hellbent on concealing the truth may cause its citizens to suffer. 5. How trauma and suffering can make or break a person. 6. How circumstances can force even good natured people to do evil. 7. Military discipline. 8. Character development. 9. The tedious animation which results in such a gorgeous anime. 10. How to fall in love with a great story.
Might I add also: you're not your ancestors, their crimes don't determine who you are and so the crime committed against them don't either, live for yourself.
Isayama has inspired so many people and change so many of our outlooks on life. Challenging our morals and learning to better understand the idea of a gray world. The actions someone takes will be cruel to one side but heroic to another, both sides must be told to understand the truth of human nature and the ingenuity of survival.

i remember when snk was only 10 chapters. i thought the drawings are quite bad. but i sticked to the plot. cant believe i was in highschool back then. good times.
to be fair though, a lot of people do judge a book by it's cover, you can't tell me you've never looked at something that has looked shitty to you, and called it as such, and then proceeded to never look or think about it ever again. hell i took one look at the show called reboot and I think it looks like ass (still do actually ) but apparently it was revolutionary and gamebreaking to the cgi crowd who loved cgi shows, and actually did it right. point is, looks do matter, to a very degree, but luckily their will always be those who are able to look past that artificial barrier and discover something great.
Well, obviously his drawing skills improved a lot. I wouldn't say they're that great though, but what matters in the end of the day is the plot. But you gotta admit the art style in the beginning was pretty shit, no wonder he was rejected before

@The D4C Gang Yeah, I kind of agree. In hindsight, not everyone will be able to due to several factors. But I didn't think you needed to be a "genius" to do it. But talent and hard work do play a huge role, and so does luck. You're right on that.

It depends, when you’re at school it’s a must to learn things even if you don’t like them or are good at but Hajime enjoys writing and drawing so having to comprehend “politics” in the way to adapt it to his manga, must be fun to learn that way :)
Fr loll
RIGHT?
You do realize a lot of writers do a shit ton of research for the story they're going to write? So maybe Isayama just read a shit ton of books about politics lol.
The only problem I have with AOT is that it sets the bar so high that every other anime seems pale in comparison.
I swear this is so true.

Isayama made it simple for this interview 🤣
His imagination and cleverness were in a different level.
Heck of a Genius
Isayama: "I wasn't very academic"
Also Isayama: Creates attack on titan that has 'hard to think of', unpredictable and realistic details even at minor scenes that isn't appreciated by alot of viewers.
Actually is easy to think. What u think is hard is cause aot is a mistery genre story, so it always left one piece to complete the puzzle, without that u can understand at all. And some time it take more than one piece .
@@hildegardvonmariendorf730 Well its not only that, their dialogues of the characters fitted their backstory and personality very well. The structure and the flow of the story is very unpredictable and complex. The realistic philosophy of aot is really deep but isnt appreciated by alot. The mystery part you are saying is just something thats really beautiful even if you figure it out.
U wont find deep philosophy as in Texhnolyze, for example.
Most os subjects or schemes are very superficial and use to drive the story but they arent part of the story discussion at all( in example: politics and social drawinism).
And izayama is rigth, this isnt even close to be in some degree an academic approach.
@@hildegardvonmariendorf730 Well, thats you're opinion. I wont take time to explain, It wont change anything.

proof that being genius is not only in academic stuffs. people were born with various talents and to narrow the term "genius" just for academic stuffs is cruel & unfair for people like Isayama because he is a genius in his own way and the world approves.

The depth, character development and the philosophy behind it is so relevant to our world. As he rightly put, the idea of the story is universal. I thank you for not giving up, and thank the publisher for not giving this gem a missed opportunity
What I learnt from AOT :

Isayama has inspired so many people and change so many of our outlooks on life. Challenging our morals and learning to better understand the idea of a gray world. The actions someone takes will be cruel to one side but heroic to another, both sides must be told to understand the truth of human nature and the ingenuity of survival.
