    Great video, thank you.
FYI The old school way of charring the wick was to install wick into burner with about 1/16 inch showing then turning burner upside down and dip it briefly into a shallow dish of kerosene just before installing the burner into the empty fount. No lighter fuel required. Allow it to burn out, then when cool adjust wick level with with tube and rub finger around it.
All kerosene heaters produce fumes when warming up, and when shutting down, therefore it's best to start them up, and shut them down outside or in a garage.
In order to run clean all flame spreader type kerosene heaters need to run full blast, don't try to turn it down. It will smell horrible. To do this, after it warms up turn it up until it starts to smoke, then back down a little until the smoke stops just like a kerosene lamp. People who regularly use kerosene heaters normally use two or more smaller ones because of this reason. They run multiple heaters to warm up the space, then turn off the ones they don't need in order to maintain the temperature.
If you want to try to use ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel (ULSD) in a flame spreader type kerosene heater you have to use 100% cotton wicks. The fiberglass topped wicks will clog up from the impurities. Some like to add a little alcohol to the fuel.
For fantastic information of all things kerosene, extremely high-quality wicks and chimneys visit milesstair.com

These are small floats th-cam.com/users/postUgkx_rJB7cli5f1ofPVGgn80S7Yj4vqwq0gU recommend the package is smaller than my hand just to provide perspective. That said I wanted small floats for the times I need to add one when trout fishing or fishing for panfish. The peg is perfect for my application where I want a set hold point that is quickly adjustable and want to be able to add the float without retying. That’s the real advantage here. You can add this float to your line without retying and adjust the depth easily with the peg so it won’t kink your line like a traditionalit. If I need to set this too deep then I’d switch over to ait with a thread stop to make casting easier. But like I said, these are a great value for the price I paid. Probably better suited to applications where your depth is 5-feet or less for the sake of casting.

If you were getting a lot of fumes from one of these heaters something is definately wrong. These heaters should burn odorless. Make sure you have good quality Kerosene, a good Kerosene has no dye, and should be clear like a glass of water. Make sure your wick is proper. Let me know if I can help.

THEY ARE A COMPLETE WASTE OF MONEY. WHO WANTS TO PAY $4.00 for a gallon of kerosene, not me..... JUST WOULD LIKE TO MENTION IN THIS VIDEO, one good things of these perfection heaters you can burn RED DYE diesel fuel in them. home heating oil $2.09/$2.19 A gallon take your pick.
I WON'T BE BUYING KEROSENE ANYTIME,EXCEPT HOME HEATING OIL.

Thanks for the clear and uncluttered video instruction. I've followed your maintenance advice to the T and love my Perfection heaters. The only problem I run into with all three of my heaters is when it comes to installing a new wick. You make it look so easy but I find it almost impossible to get the wick carrier down far enough to engage with the wick adjuster teeth. I can get it down so far and no farther and the teeth just slide off the bottom of the carrier. I tried to force it and actually broke the knob off the wick adjuster. Bad idea! I bought genuine old stock Perfection wicks on eBay but have had no luck with them either. What am I doing wrong??? I'm sooh frustrated and would really appreciate your advice. Thanks!!

Very good video. and no yappy just to the point. I will not use nothing but a perfection heater. They are simpler to fix then other kerosene heaters. They use the 100% cotton wick, i CANNOT STAND THE STUPID FIBERGLASS WICK. Like the 100% wick, because KEROSENE IS $4.00/GALLON and DIESEL is $2.09 (dyed diesel) ATLEAST I can burn diesel and its lot cheaper and the kotton wick can tolerate it better then fiberglass.

My son gave me a Perfection 525 heater. Today I cleaned it up a lot as far as getting some rust off and dirt daubers nests out. I used WD40 to loosen the fuel cap and float cap. The wick adjuster does not turn. Another video says not to force it. They next show it with the wick out and how to remove the adjuster but they do not show how to get the wick out. How do I get the wick out? Do I just pull it out like you did in this video? I do see a few inches wick still on it. I know nothing about it so did not want to try and pull it out without first asking. I did not know if it would break the adjuster. Thank you

Thanks for the very thorough instructions although I've run into a problem not addressed here. I've got a 260c model that probably hadn't been used in my lifetime.
The wick was stuck and couldn't be raised. The mechanism was engaged with the slots on the wick holder but wouldn't turn.
I got the old wick removed by snipping through the old metal holder. The feeding mechanism now spins freely and I can see the gears moving.
I've got a an aw-500 wick that I can push down the sleeve, but it freezes up once it comes into contact with the gear. I can see no obstruction in the way.
    Any ideas?

Best information I've yet to come across. Thank you sir. Beautiful heater. Did you restore your heater? Interested in what paint to use.

Shane Beaudrot this is an original, it’s the enameled finish, so it holds up very well. If you are painting your heater, all pieces the chimney up must be finished in a paint suitable to 1200+ degrees. 500 degree engine paint will burn off.

@@RedDodge1968 hello; I am wondering if you could help me with my antique Rippingilles kerosene heater...I need to find a wick for it and not sure if a Perfection wick would work...or do you know where I could source a wick? Thank you!

Fantastic video! Thank you so much! I just won a #750 at auction and I'm really excited to run it but first of all the glass globe is cracked in two places, would it be best to replace it? And the only place iv'e seen any so far are on Ebay and they are expensive. Also a bit of rest on tank. Thanks again!

eBay is probably the best place to find a replacement globe. The heat will probably increase your cracks.

I have an old 430 looks fair and should work where do you get the parts and wick? Also, how do you distinguish the flame to shut it down. Thanks Mike

I have a Perfection 500 M25 I ordered a wick from American Wicks I believe it's cotton. After about 30 to 40 hours of burning it seems hard to light. Which is the best way of cleaning this Wick?

Sugarshack22 I would recommend something such as JB Weld, it will for sure be unaffected by the fuel.

What would be the best fuel to run in a Perfection 525 heater?

    • @RedDodge1968
      @RedDodge1968  4 ปีที่แล้ว

John Kelley I recommend undyed K-1 Kerosene, but they will run on diesel, but with less heat output. You would NOT want to use diesel indoors.

@@RedDodge1968 use 100% cotton wick with diesel. Why not run indoors? They seem to run fine for many of us.

I just came into a FREE Perfection 750 heater. And I’m new to restoring these vintage heaters and I’m needing some insight on where to find parts. Unfortunately the heater has nothing with it at all. No tank, wick, etc.

    • @RedDodge1968

Devon Brown eBay is a great place to look for parts, the tanks as complete units come up often. All the tanks are the same diameter with the exception to the smaller 513. The 1600 series heaters have longer wick adjusting rods, as the bodies of these heaters are larger.
