  • These pieces are so much fun to do! They are almost always free and have a quick turn around. This one took me a while to get started on because it’s quite a bit longer than the ones I typically pick up. But after some thought, I figured it would be an amazing sofa or hall table. Once I decided I could just paint and go- that’s exactly what I did.

    I love that you say things will tell you what they want you to do. I feel the same way. That’s why so many pieces or projects fail because they are forced and that doesn’t work. ❤️

      There are a lot of us right now it seems! It is great to be a part of such a talented community. I learned a lot of what I do from my parents and grandparents and I’m sure that’s how most of us start. I love being able to pass on the same knowledge to my son. And I’ll keep an eye out, Linda!!!

    • @elegantupgrades

      Linda! Thank you so incredibly much for the beautiful pulls and mini tool set. I have to tell you, my three year old son helps me open the mail and when he saw the tools he exclaimed, “Oh! They’re for meeee!!!” And it was just so cute. Mind you he has his own tool set already, but I guess I’ll be sharing these with him as well. I sent a thank you message on Amazon as well, but I wanted to throw it over here as well. I’m just so blown away by your thoughtfulness.

    This hutch was really surprising. You turned it into a swan, for sure! You are the only other person I know of who waits for the furniture to tell you what it wants to be. That’s been my “problem” forever! Super cool that you sold those two pieces to the same person! Yay! Lovely hall/sofa table and a surprise video since it was just all of a sudden there!🌸

    That lady is a perfect example of how awesome your work is regardless of the style. It’s like someone adopting a bulldog and a poodle! Haha! (I love all dogs so the comparison makes sense to me😁)
    I never thought about using the top of a hutch as an entryway or sofa table. That’s brilliant!! Great job as usual!!

    • @elegantupgrades
      @elegantupgrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha, well thank you, Lizza. It just really made me want to peek inside her home and see what she was doing in there. And as far as dogs go, I’d take bulldog and a poodle together any day. Maybe not a yippie dog, though….those ones can have their little old ladies.

    This is a really unique and beautiful method of painting. I admire it very much. I might have considered filling in the slots on the shelf with wood epoxy or something, just because they were distracting.

    • @elegantupgrades
      @elegantupgrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, Laura! They didn’t distract me at all, but if they had, I probably would have done a swooped cut to get rid of them over filling so much on an edge of a shelf. I love that there are so many ways to do things. Thanks for your input!

    It's interesting that you say you wait for the pieces to tell you what to do. As a writer, I often have to wait for my characters to tell me what happens next. Interesting how the creative process works. We think it's us, but it's not. It's the things were creating. And you do such an amazing job. This is gorgeous. I love that you kept the wood top. Beautiful! Always romantic vibes! It was fortunate that you didn't have enough wallpaper because the top turned out so beautiful! Thanks for sharing. The way you film your videos doesn't do justice to your work. You are amazing and you should find a way to show it in your videos. Do more close up and slow motion when you edit. And maybe keep in the frame only the piece you are working on. I say these things with appreciation.

    I know hutches are out of style but it adds a lot of storage. My sister's that shared a room had an old hutch we got from Goodwill on their shared dresser for years. There was not much room left with two beds in there so the hutch is were all the little extra crap went. Nail polish, jewelry, scrunchies, cheap dollar store fairy figurines etc.

      @@elegantupgrades my name is Barb & I really enjoy watching your creations.
      If u don’t mind I do have a question…I have quite a few pieces of solid wood furniture plus some ikea wood veneer pieces too. Cos my place is small, these pieces are reasonably close to each other. Some of these pieces are stained dark wood & some have got a reddish stain to them & the ikea pieces are light veneered mdf. These pieces need refinishing, so could u suggest how I could paint or refinish them so that they don’t end up looking all the same and so my place doesn’t end up looking like a used furniture warehouse full of pieces all with different furniture finishes? If u’d like to see the pieces I’m talking about I could send pics to u in your Etsy store. Do u have any suggestions pls? Many thanx, Barb.
      PS, I live in Sydney, Australia

    • @elegantupgrades
      @elegantupgrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah! Barb! That’s better. Thank you for sharing. And as far as the furniture goes- I would choose the wood tone I liked best and stick with that tone throughout. So the ones that could be stained or left wood, maybe keep a whole piece wood, another perhaps just the top wood and the ones that are light veneer you could paint those. Then I would choose one I would want to be the focal point - that’s the one I would do something really fun on, like decoupage or wallpaper or something like that. Then the other pieces you can pull colors from the focal piece, but keep them simple. I hope that makes sense!

    It’s pretty but odd since the sides or bottom look like it should be on a hutch… So I was just thinking that maybe you could cut the little side and bottom pieces off and then do the DIY Wife’s bottom with legs that she puts on side tables to add height and update a piece…I hope that made sense… I guess explaining a different way would be to cut it flat underneath where the doors are and then add her framing piece with the legs to make its own little buffet or side table.

    • @elegantupgrades
      @elegantupgrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I liked the strangeness of the bottom on this one, but I have done several others where I’ve added different types of legs and whatnot. It’s fun to mix things up. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment, Cindy!

    VERY nice job. Is there a concern that the bases stick out too far in front and create a tripping hazard? The bases might need their extra length to make the hutch stay upright though, so I don't know that cutting them back would work very well. The round knobs would have added nothing to the renovation. The ones you selected are more feminine and Baroque and go very nicely with the hutch. I could even see this used in a bathroom with rolled up towels on the shelves and bath and cosmetic products, even hair dryers, going in the cabinets, candles and more folded towels on top to make a vignette and a large mirror in a silver frame on the wall above it.

    • @elegantupgrades
      @elegantupgrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you, Virginia! Ooooo, I love the idea of it in a bathroom with rolled towels! And the legs, since they are so low to the ground at the point they come out, shouldn’t be much of a tripping hazard. I’ve been working around it in the shop and haven’t had any issues. I also noted it in the listing with the measurements so folks know before they decide to purchase.

    • @elegantupgrades
      @elegantupgrades  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’ve used some acrylic paints on smaller items. I think you can blend with most paint if you can get to know the best way to blend it. Each paint has a mind of its own and some are easier to work with than others. But if you have one you like, I’d just play around with it.
