Community colleges are awesome. Just finished my RN at a community college for almost free. Now I work in the neuro ICU making almost 40 an hour base pay. Community college is the way to go
My aunt went the same route. She’s a surgical nurse. started at a university but her scholarship didn’t cover enough. Found a great program/opportunity thru a community college that lead to an internship that lead to another program that paid for all of her schooling. Her journey was a little longer but she left with no debt and more experience giving her more earning power
My sister did the same thing and just transferred to University of Rhode Island for final specialty in her field. She graduated with no debt, and now makes $120k. Most of her education was done via community college. So it really is the better choice to take.
I went to community college and then got transferred to ucla and graduated with an engineering degree. I left school with only $3K of student loans now making $130K. Community college is the best thing I have ever done!! I tell all high school kids to go to community college first.
I just cant imagine ANY medical position that would be making $25k.. even security guards make $15 per hours which is $30K full time annually What is happening ??.

I was making $52k and paid off $56k in 26 months. Sold a $18k car and paid the rest off. The "trick" is not to make excuses, dont "adjust" the steps to suit you

She could make $30k with just 40 hours a week if she walked into the nearest Target and took a job there. Is she working full time? Something doesn’t add up with that.
The caller is probably working at an inner city private dialyisis center, and was probably trained on site. This would explain the pay rate - and we're assuming what she stated is gross and not net.

I use to be on dialysis. I didn’t know that’s all they make. There’s definitely more opportunity even in the dialysis route. Dialysis is BIG MONEY in our society. The way these clinics/hospitals move patients in and out, it’s almost like an assembly line. The money is there, you just have to find a different route.

No it's not a legal obligation but to a lot of parents it is a moral obligation and can be seen as a part of her nurture and guidance to at the very least be a consultant. I don't know why she is making 25k a year; personally that is unacceptable to me but she may not know how to negotiate or be uncomfortable advocating for more or like you said there could be other reasons that are prohibiting her from increasing her income. I believe regardless of income, you should absolutely concern yourself with the decisions of your children, specifically at the tender age of 18. This is where young adults get manipulated and bamboozled and end up with 56k dollars of debt with an income that is not sufficient to pay it off.

I’ll tell my kids to avoid student loans if possible, I’ll tell them to work while I’m college to pay the expenses, I’ll tell them to go to a cheaper school etc. but that’s where I’ll probably draw the line. I don’t see it as a moral obligation to pay for tuition. If you took care of your child or children up until their 18th birthday especially as a single parent, you satisfied both your moral and legal obligation.
She could take on OT in every hospital nation wide we are super short Sitters which only requires a clean record & a CPR card. Or get your CNA & become a Nurse Tech in a hospital. The money in medicine is at the bedside in a facility or hospital especially shift work. Get in a hospital system that pays for your RN license. That’s how I did it. Nursing income is amazing. 👍👍🇺🇸
An ex-colleague convinced me into stock trading and investment as a means of making more income maybe because of the few commissions she earns bringing people. Sad i fell, My portfolio have been down ever since. Next time, i will first spend my money on myself before investing.

Income is the most difficult part to change in today's society. With the algorithms used for resume, once you mention your past employment history they will only refer you to jobs that are related and they will all pay about the same.
I could not agree more about community college. I went to community college before I got my BS, and it was the smartest decision I ever made. I got good grades while there, and it allowed me to be able to go to a very expensive 4 year school after I had my AA, get massive scholarships and graduate from a school that was, in 2003, about 50k a year with only about 30k in college debt. Many of my friends left that school with 200k+ in student loan debt after 4 years there

A few positions that she could consider would be the following - certified dialysis tech avg $52,000 - dialysis patient care technician avg $46,000 - hemodialysis technician avg $49,000 - dialysis nurse - LPN avg $69,000
Pharmacy technicians start out at 18ish/hr. Might take a month to get certified. Not much ways to move up past that but it's an immediate bump in income.
It’s a little longer than that. My daughter is enrolled in a pharmacy technician program and it will take two semesters to complete which is around 26 to 32 weeks.
@@EvangelismforGod there are multiple ways of becoming a tech. Usually with the programs they become IV certified as well which means they can work in the inpatient part of a hospital. But to become a certified technician you really just have to take a test which takes about a month to study for.

I work 3 to 4 jobs and still just barely make about $40k a year... it's literally impossible to find a good job that actually pays you decent with or without a degree.
I graduated from a community college. It’s much more affordable. Luckily I had a job working at the college while I was taking classes. So I was able to pay my parents back easily without taking out a student loan. A four year college is just ridiculously expensive these days.
My sis was working a job in a hospital (husband was military, she took any job she could get at each deployment) and her hospital would send her to train as an RN. They would pick up the bill; she would owe 2 years of working for them OR until husband got orders. She has a BA in another field and was able to test out of everything except the clinical stuff....and every assignment husband had from then till retirement, she was able to function as an RN. She called and asked my opinion before accepting the offer--I pointed out that "worst case, you might have to drop out of choir; you are already never seeing husband as he is always working. Is the caller trained enough to test out of anything? I don't know. But if she doesn't get started, it will never happen. If she does get the RN, she can expect her income to more than double right after getting her license. If the hospital won't pay for it, community college is cheap!

I make similar income as her and it’s definitely tough; paycheck to paycheck with assistance. I have my bachelors in psych because it was my plan to continue on to grad school to become a mental health counselor. I realized my sophomore year I was no longer interested and not a good fit for that career but graduated anyway. Now I’m like a stenographer making $15. I’m not sure what my passions are. And every time I try to pursue something I feel interested in I feel like I’m not grasping the material well enough to move forward. I don’t know if I may have some kind of learning disability or what but it makes it hard for me to seek higher paying jobs. I’m definitely trying though. If anyone has any advice or know anyone who struggles with learning I would appreciate it😊. (Please be kind 😌)
I think most people aren’t working in a field of their passions honestly. You might try taking some tests based on your personality that figure out what might be a good fit for you. Sorry to hear about the learning disability. I’m sure that can make it hard. There are many jobs that don’t require complicated training though that you could be great at

@M Atlanta is not really a poor place. It's one of the biggest cities in the US. Yes southern states don't pay as much as other states but she could definitely do better in Georgia
They pay no taxes and receive subsidies for food, rent and utilities. In the long run, they live better than people on twice their income. The US encourages single mothers; most unfortunate.

I chose a city university over a private university, and was able to make payments while in school. Graduated debt free, and every cent I made went to me. As a result I was able to save enough to buy a house, and still have savings.
the problem is not a debt problem nor a budget problem, its a income problem, if you have a low income there is no easy way for it, there is no baby step to get you out, you need to get into a decent income, im not talking about 100k or 80k or something like that, but just have a decent income, 40k a year is like $18 an hour, either get more jobs or move to another career, 24k is nothing
Single incomes may be found at different stages in life. I’ve been a widower for 8 years and back to the early 90’s since my late wife was a stay at home mom followed by her disability and her chronic illness. After the dust cleared I found the decisions were my own. The thing I realized was I was the only one who had to be on board for my financial decisions.

I work 3 to 4 jobs and still just barely make about $40k a year... it's literally impossible to find a good job that actually pays you decent with or without a degree.
I graduated from a community college. It’s much more affordable. Luckily I had a job working at the college while I was taking classes. So I was able to pay my parents back easily without taking out a student loan. A four year college is just ridiculously expensive these days.
My sis was working a job in a hospital (husband was military, she took any job she could get at each deployment) and her hospital would send her to train as an RN. They would pick up the bill; she would owe 2 years of working for them OR until husband got orders. She has a BA in another field and was able to test out of everything except the clinical stuff....and every assignment husband had from then till retirement, she was able to function as an RN. She called and asked my opinion before accepting the offer--I pointed out that "worst case, you might have to drop out of choir; you are already never seeing husband as he is always working. Is the caller trained enough to test out of anything? I don't know. But if she doesn't get started, it will never happen. If she does get the RN, she can expect her income to more than double right after getting her license. If the hospital won't pay for it, community college is cheap!

I make similar income as her and it’s definitely tough; paycheck to paycheck with assistance. I have my bachelors in psych because it was my plan to continue on to grad school to become a mental health counselor. I realized my sophomore year I was no longer interested and not a good fit for that career but graduated anyway. Now I’m like a stenographer making $15. I’m not sure what my passions are. And every time I try to pursue something I feel interested in I feel like I’m not grasping the material well enough to move forward. I don’t know if I may have some kind of learning disability or what but it makes it hard for me to seek higher paying jobs. I’m definitely trying though. If anyone has any advice or know anyone who struggles with learning I would appreciate it😊. (Please be kind 😌)

I think most people aren’t working in a field of their passions honestly. You might try taking some tests based on your personality that figure out what might be a good fit for you. Sorry to hear about the learning disability. I’m sure that can make it hard. There are many jobs that don’t require complicated training though that you could be great at

What did she say she was spending on? A car, loan, and student loans which is the trap for a majority of americans. I don't think spending is her problem, I think it's an income problem. It would be something different if she called in with a 6 figure salary stating she eats out constantly and doesn't know where her money went and has 56k dollars in debt.

@M Atlanta is not really a poor place. It's one of the biggest cities in the US. Yes southern states don't pay as much as other states but she could definitely do better in Georgia

They pay no taxes and receive subsidies for food, rent and utilities. In the long run, they live better than people on twice their income. The US encourages single mothers; most unfortunate.

I chose a city university over a private university, and was able to make payments while in school. Graduated debt free, and every cent I made went to me. As a result I was able to save enough to buy a house, and still have savings.
the problem is not a debt problem nor a budget problem, its a income problem, if you have a low income there is no easy way for it, there is no baby step to get you out, you need to get into a decent income, im not talking about 100k or 80k or something like that, but just have a decent income, 40k a year is like $18 an hour, either get more jobs or move to another career, 24k is nothing
Single incomes may be found at different stages in life. I’ve been a widower for 8 years and back to the early 90’s since my late wife was a stay at home mom followed by her disability and her chronic illness. After the dust cleared I found the decisions were my own. The thing I realized was I was the only one who had to be on board for my financial decisions.
