The thing to keep in mind about the Alien movies is that it's just as much about living in a corporate dystopian future as it is about the actual aliens. The first movie was all about Weyland-Yutani sacrificing its crew in the name of profits and James Cameron iterated on that by making the marines closer to corporate mercenaries. It was a motif that I actually didn't notice Cameron brought over until you pointed it out.

Regarding the weird three-miniature box of Plague Marines: They started out as a limited edition boxed set called "the Plauge Brethren" which came with a unit card -- so they were their own unit of three but with no special stats or anything -- and some postcards featuring John Blanche illustrations of each one. At least I think they were supposed to be the miniatures, the resemblance was not great. The box cost like 30 pounds. Nobody in the Black Library stable of authors does destruction and the chaos it causes like Abnett. The attack on the shipyards over Calth in Know No Fear is the most insane, well written, and terrifying scene of destruction I've ever read.
Were those Plague Marine Reinforcements the same that thry released that limited edition box of near the beginning of 8th? Came with a couple of art prints...

Speaking of having a crashed thunder hawk gun ship as scenery. I’d love to see them re-release the crashed gun ship from the battle for macragge box set.
They could have Death Guard in unit sizes of 5, 7, 10 (and likewise for favored WE, TS, EC). I found it interesting that Chaos Rhinos in general don't have Firing Deck as an ability, and the keywords are inconsistent with "Dedicated Transport". The Thousand Sons DP has -1" movement to match with the Rubrics, but a DP with MoT from the Index CSM isn't penalized despite being exactly the same aside from its main psychic abilities.
Another recommendation for Ciaphus Cain: it's very different to Abnett, but are brilliantly written, very funny, and a very different perspective on the 40k universe.

My absolute favorite 40k books (except from Eisenhorn of course) is the Fabius Bile trilogy starting with Primogenitor, they are fantastic, best books about chaos space marines such a shame that Josh Reynolds doesn’t write for Black Library anymore. Also Lords of Silence is great, really shows how vast and ignorant the Imperium is, we as players know about all the factions but for most citizens of the Imperium even chaos space marines are just scary stories and believed not to be real at all.

18:50 Each Chaos God has its own favoured number, this was done narratively. However 10th has moved away from points per model to points per unit, that is restricted to 5 and 10. This is a better balancing mechanic, its just as usual GW hate chaos players meme and get hit the most from rule changes. Ref, how long it took CSM to get 2 wounds... Tzeentch = 9 Khorne = 8 Nurgle = 7 Slaanesh = 6
The rest of Gaunts Ghosts is very worth reading/listening Pat! I would recommend Rynns World (one off about the crimson fists), the 4 blood angels books by James Swallow are also quite interesting but older lore for sure. If you want to try an AoS novel Dynasty of Monsters by David Annadale has completely hooked me into AoS and wanting to learn more about the setting
I would really like an episode of taking a resin model from it's package to the paint table. And all the steps inbetween. Maybe with that Custodes tank
May be a bit late on the black templar 11 model sword brethren squad issue but my take is this: unit composition is either 1x Sword Bro Castellan + 4 Sword Bros, or 1x Sword Bro Castellan + 10 Sword Bros. 1 box can be built as 1 sword bro castellan and 4 sword bros or as 5 sword bros. So I think GW's intention is that to make an 11 man sword bro squad, you buy 2 boxes to build as sword bros and the specific castellan model and that's your 11 man squad. The way I see it, your sword brethren castellan works the same as a sergeant would in an assault intercessor squad - it has some additional wargear choices but no abilities. But it's called a castellan for flavour. You could then also attach an actual castellan (lieutenant) to your sword bro squad, and have a squad with 2 "castellans" in it for additional complexity.
The 3 bonus plague marines were included in the boarding patrol box, which made them round out to 10. It was a much better plan than the combat patrol, with the three million iffy poxwalker sculpts. Unfortunately, like most boarding patrol boxes, it was for sale for a whole 20 minutes. Hopefully after the successful Leviathan launch, maybe availability will improve, although with the current rules, and no codex scheduled for them in the next year, I don't expect death guard to be playable at all without some major changes. Without significant rules changes, the plague marines need at least a 25% discount, and that's just to compete with middle of the road armies.
I've found a few funny things in the new datasheets. For example; did you know that if you take a flamer on an assault marine or storm guardian they can't attack in combat because they replaced their only melee weapon.
Those three death guard were sold as a collectors limited edition box set at the beginning of 8th. One of the poses just looks like a mirrored pose from easy to build kit in the first starter set.

And youre description of paras is spot on two of my mates who are paratroopers (one whos sadly passed on) dressed exactly like that! Right down to the desert boots!
Our dg player won his first game of 10th. ... He only had to bring 1k and was backed up by 1k csm vs 1k marines & 1k admech. It was csm and a bucket of shit vs sm with a bucket of bolts.
Haven't seen Beast Master (except for references in community) but the description of the hug and munching sounds like the Sparas out of Carnival Row season 2
Round about 22.00 - the reinforcements set was originally three limited Plague Marines with some artwork. They then sold that out, put the three marines in a box... eeeerrrm... and didn't reduce the price! I'm not too bothered about my Death Guard. Or to put it another way, I'm not going to get into a fit about it!
Pat the Sgt Major is the important man in the regiment. He looks after the men. In the units I have touched on usually address the officers as 'Mr'. Even the cooks have to do the fitness training and achieve a shoot score like all the other marines.
Love the Gaunts Ghosts books. Its a real shame GW wont embrace all these different regiments and show more of them off. Peachy you deffo need to do another set of "convert your guard" to look at some of the more unique units from books like the Ghosts etc.
I like how Peachy was clearly talking about Ultra Marines when talking about "so and so done the rules for these because it is their favourite and they are impossible to fight" ha
More and more of Geoffs background coming out, so Im guessing Irish Guards then RIR? Faugh A Ballagh! The Deathguard 7 man squads are supposed to be a nod to Papa Nurgle, so I dont kniw where they got this multiples of 5 from, hope they sort that out as it breaks the narrative.
It's great to see guests, but its wonderful to see and listen to the 3 of you talking and sidetracking! Very happy you mentioned the Dogs of War, probably my favourite among 5th ed army books. Ps: Alcatani's leader name is Rodrigo Delmonte, wich is another pun. That's pure gold 😂
There's decent food with reasonable prices at UKGE if you head to the carpark outside the front of the Hilton, loads of street food vans with some cracking choices.

I've found a few funny things in the new datasheets. For example; did you know that if you take a flamer on an assault marine or storm guardian they can't attack in combat because they replaced their only melee weapon.
Mentally reading 'In't grim darkness o't far future, thurs only war!'
I don't care if Death Guard don't perform in the meta, but it's absolutely disgusting that they feel nothing like they're supposed to I'm the lore
Those three death guard were sold as a collectors limited edition box set at the beginning of 8th. One of the poses just looks like a mirrored pose from easy to build kit in the first starter set.
So who is the GW rule writer with the hard on for Iron Hands? They got rules at the end of 9th that made them insane to play against.
It was First Sgt. Dan Daly, I believe, who instigated a charge against the Germans at Belleau Wood, with the words: "Do you want to live forever?".
1:12:27 This is what PeachTSD looks like. The horror of the dropped trays is still too fresh.
Awesome chat, gentlemen. It's such a pleasure to listen to you guys talk and enjoy the hobby.
Also: What Painting Phase Phest definitely needs is a waffle stand. ;)
(And no, we're not calling it PP-Fest!)
Now I really want an armored containers set lol! Huge fan of a bridge too far! Loved the chat this episode, you all are so entertaining on your own, even with no guest!
Thanks so much, very kind.
Talking of Yorkshire Accents in Audio Books. Ciaphas Cain's friend, the Lord General Zyvan nis basically Sean Bean. Every scene he's in goes something like this:
"..'ow 'bout we kick in't door & ruff 'em all up good 'n proper! If ya don like that, I'll chin ya!"
And youre description of paras is spot on two of my mates who are paratroopers (one whos sadly passed on) dressed exactly like that! Right down to the desert boots!
Sorry for the loss of your friend - Geoff
@@thepaintingphase thank you, he was an amazing guy a great trooper, and a top motorcycle rider to boot.
Just curious who was Geoff referring to when he said the chap sitting in that chair was a marine? Was it a guest?
Yes one of the lovely fellas behind the game ‘War on Terra’.
Thanks guys!@@thepaintingphase
"Guant's ghosts and the weirdo pirates" should be the next in the series
“Nothing wrong with that documentary” - amazing!
Our dg player won his first game of 10th.
...
He only had to bring 1k and was backed up by 1k csm vs 1k marines & 1k admech. It was csm and a bucket of shit vs sm with a bucket of bolts.
So it was CSM vs Marines, with two cheerleader armies on the side. Admech and DG are about as useless as each other in 10th
I had a headache..but it went away. Best 40k quote ever.
Haven't seen Beast Master (except for references in community) but the description of the hug and munching sounds like the Sparas out of Carnival Row season 2
I feel like a whole podcast series could be done on Geoff's Sons reactions to 80s movies! 😂
I daren’t show him Commando, I think he’d have a melt down.
Love the army stories! I’m in the Canadian Army and i can relate haha.
I’ve only listened to a few audiobooks and the accent I seemed to notice the most was Eastern Europe, particularly for human crews on ships
The book Jeff was referring to is "Only in Death", blood pact is the one after it
16:20 Peach's Reaction to that info is just the best
Pat the Sgt Major is the important man in the regiment. He looks after the men. In the units I have touched on usually address the officers as 'Mr'. Even the cooks have to do the fitness training and achieve a shoot score like all the other marines.
Funny and awesome video again. Quick question after listening to eisenhorn on audible how long is a standard year in 40k is it the same as our years?
I could be wrong but I think a lot of folks go by the Terran year. But that might just be me getting my head meat confused again
FAB is the call of the Ranger!
Any particular reason y’all guys stream on twitch instead of TH-cam?
What about a 40k version of Dads army?
Peachs reaction to the plague marines is priceless
Excellent as always 🙂
It's great to see guests, but its wonderful to see and listen to the 3 of you talking and sidetracking! Very happy you mentioned the Dogs of War, probably my favourite among 5th ed army books. Ps: Alcatani's leader name is Rodrigo Delmonte, wich is another pun. That's pure gold 😂
This is a great episode, and why I signed up for Patreon
Thanks so much!
Yorkshireman here, loved the Yorkshire segment
A flat capped imperial fist kill team is a must build
😂😂😂 ee by gum lad that’s grand that is
Is it the set from Blackstone?
Honestly don't know what I'd do when I'm driving around and haven't got a podcast from you chaps 🤘😎🔥
There's decent food with reasonable prices at UKGE if you head to the carpark outside the front of the Hilton, loads of street food vans with some cracking choices.
Painting Phase Fest.
You'd arrive at the queue to get in but something will distract you and you'll have to run around the show 10 mins before close.
But there will be excellent games such as "Peg The Peachy", "Pat's Heresy Button Challenge" and "Spot the Escaped GW Employee"
Hahaha! I’m all about this lol
The 7 plague marines pers box to keep myself saine I have to keep thinking I get two extra per box for different weapons. Edit: Yup loved trading stuff for little things like that when I was in the US Army. Was very much a fun hobby to get something neat to show you have been there and help relations between forces.
Where does Geoff get his tshirts?
Hi Boss, I get the majority of them from the fantastic peeps at ‘Last Exit to Nowhere’. They have an awesome range of shirts.
Death Guard need to WAIT MORE THAN A YEAR for their codex!!!
we need some footage of a Space Marine seeing some xenos scum with the audio of Sean Bean going "B*****d"
Hahaha! Yep that would be amazing
