- Can I drive a moped without a license?
Attorney Derek Bernstein discusses those people trying to sell mopeds to those without valid drivers license in Florida.
If you had your drivers license suspended or revoked due to a DUI or other reason you cannot legally drive a moped on the streets. If an officer were to run your tags and find you have no valid drivers license you can’t be arrested and taken to jail.
Do not believe the people telling you you’ve been driving on the street.
U.S. Supreme Court says No License Necessary To Drive Automobile On Public Highways/Streets. ... Licensed privileges are NOT rights
cite your case law please.
Do i need license to drive electric scooter
Are you referring to those stand up style that you can rent in cities? No you don’t. Just need to be 16 for their terms of use
What if you have a Permit but no License yet. I have no Access to Cars for The test most Driving school's are covid restricted. With Covid-19 Now days its months of waiting to even schedule a test with the DMV. The town I live in has trains within a few miles of eachother. Buses are 1 here 1 there but runs only a few times a day. Commuting is hard here..... Can I ride this with a Valid Permit and ID Till I can get the license part...?? Thanks much aprechiated !!
In Florida that is a solid no. I don't know if where you are it is legal, I would consult a lawyer in your State. I would look into an electric bike though. Something with pedals and an electric assist. Could help you out a lot.
Where I live if the scooter is 50cc you don’t need a license, anything above the 50cc then yes you would need a license
Awesome. What area is this?
What about Chicago are u able to drive this with no Ls?
I do not know the law in Chicago/Illinois
Well buddy I don't know how it is in the state of Florida but either you don't know your stuff or it's different in the state of Indiana because in the state of Indiana you absolutely do not need a driver's license to ride a 50cc scooter all you need is a valid ID with a motor driven cycle b endorsement which is nothing more than going to the license branch taking the 25 question test and that's that. And this is a fact because I've been driving one for the last several years with this endorsement and no driver's license
Your correct. Each state varies. In Florida you do need a license though.
Troy spartan what kinda questions are on the test I'm from terre haute Indiana they impounded mine without endorsement am I better off just getting my drivers permit? I'm gonna to the bmv and try to take both in the morning
In the us u don't need a drivers license for ANY transportation under 50cc. However the one exception is hawaii. Where u do. They also have a class 1 moped license. Just for any mopeds. U still need proof of address and stuff so if u dont live there. U can just get a permit in your state for a visit. Permits also count. Some towns in the united states may actually make u leave or pickup your moped from their jurisdiction if u dont have at least a permit if accidents are high in that town. More for your own safety. Thats all the 50cc moped knowledge u need.
I am only sure of Florida law, but assuming you are correct thank you for the update.
I'm 16 would you recommend this as my first car im very interested
It depends on where you live and your financial abilities.
Benefits-
Very fuel efficient
Can buy very cheap
No insurance required
No endorsement required
Low maintenance costs
Negatives
Get stuck in the rain
Stuck in the cold
Only go about 35 so can’t go on highways
If hit by a car your in trouble
@@TheLawBear thanks for the info
Zombieslayer no problem
Can I drive a low powered electric bike, without pedals and stuff? Im 14, will keep it only on the bike lane, in california. It looks like a dirtbike, its electric, can I classify it as 49cc moped and use it without a license/registration?
I am not sure of the laws in California. I do however see electric bikes in Florida all the time ithout licenses. With pedals changes things.
Hello , can I ride moped 50cc or 49cc with a valid driver’s license of car ?
yes with a valid drivers license yes. It does not require a motorcycle endorsement.
Depends, Georgia allows it... Florida might not.
Im not sure on Georgia, but Florida is a no no.
Do what I did just get a fast ebike they go just as fast and the police don't mess with you because it's a bike and it's quiet.
Check your local laws but that is definetly an option for people. However a good moped can get up to 45mph. where an e bike i think is probably what 25-30?
Will a drivers permit do?
Just making sure if not then Damn
In Florida, you need a valid drivers license. No insurance is required for a 49cc.
What’s the rule in Las Vegas? I am so confused lol
I am sorry, I do not practice in Las Vegas, I would recommend contacting a local attorney who does criminal law/tickets in Las Vegas to get that answer.
I’m Kentucky you can with no license
Im not sure of the law in Kentucky. What statute are you referring to?
hello sir! I recently got my license at 16 years old. Would I be able to ride a 49cc moped with gears? If not, would the consequences of getting caught be very severe? (I am in Illinois)
My information is to florida law. I would consult some literature in Illinois regarding if you need a motorcycle endorcement for that. WHen you say gears do you mean automatic or something you have to shift?
@@derekbernstein6993 My apologies, but yes having to shift.
@@crimsonseb1359 have to check Illinois statutes on if that is considered a motorcycle or not.
@@derekbernstein6993 unfortunately, i have figured out that i require a class L license which i cannot get until i am 18. Sorry for bothering but I thank you for your help!
@@crimsonseb1359 sell that scooter and get yourself one that doesnt shift.
You are so awsome
thank you.
Can a 14 year old ride this
In Florida, not alone. You must have a valid drives license. On the back with a helmet, yes they can.
How about 49cc ?
In Florida, you need a valid drivers license. No insurance is required for a 49cc.
Not here in Kansas you still can operate without a license all you need is registration tag and Valid ID card as of January 2022
@TheLawBear what about kentucky?
Fuck whyyyyy
Looks like I’m gonna be riding dirty!
