    Now that Honda released the NAVI.., does it really justify the prices some of these electric models go for? You can get a NAVI for $1800, the bike license isn’t expensive and easy to get.., and insurance is cheap. Plus you get approximately 100 miles to the gallon. I think the NAVI kind of makes electric scooters like this more of a novelty now.

It goes about 30 mph so it's good for cities that might not be too bicycle friendly if you need to get through a dangerous part quickly, and it saved a lot of in-city miles on my car and was usually faster during work hours.

    Yeah that's a Ninebot, they own Segeway. I got one that I'm riding daily in China. They're meant for the city, going to work and back. Down the road and back. They are very popular here. You get a special E-bike plate for them. No drivers license required. Very useful in the city to squeeze between traffic when it's at a standstill. Some other E-bikes here actually have battery stations located on the streets, you just stop and swap out your battery and keep going. The food delivery guys use them. These bikes are awesome!

    You have the number one brand in China right now. Of course c80 is one of the cheapest models. Here in China it doesn't reach 1000 dollars. This particular model is used by kids or parents to take little childrens to school. It is small so it can avoid traffic during the rush hours that are precisely the ones entering and leaving school. The most popular model of the Ninebot is the e, which can reach 120 km/h and travel 120 km. It is one of the most used by young people. It's amazing to see how they put Ohlins suspension, Brembo brakes, Pirelli tire...
    On the other hand, there is NIU, which was number one for many years until Ninebot's appears. The most popular models are the n models which can also reach 120km/h.
    Due to the quarantine, the Chinese had a lot of time at home and small businesses came to develop more powerful engines than the trademarks. Such is the case with the QSMOTOR brand. Belt or Chain motors over 5000w, 72v and madness over 100ah. (there is a video of a Chinese guy on a 15000w motorcycle on youtube)
    The NIU brand has a series called u that came out with the same purpose of Ninebot's c series, but with the appearance of new more powerful engines and the versatility of the model to modify and customize now (after several years of its launch) many people who love this type of vehicle are giving it popularity. It's amazing to see chopper, bobber, coffee racer or carrera modified.
    Another prestige brand here is YADEA. It is a very good brand but apparently for its aesthetic is not very popular among lovers of electric scooters in China.
    I hope my long comment will help someone

  • @craigcampbell1843
    @craigcampbell1843 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I’ve had a NIU Ngt for over two years now. There’s no better or more fun (or cheaper) way to get around town. Unfortunately I’ll never be able to take it on a road trip but that’s not what scooters are really designed for anyway. It will last 60 miles on a charge and does 50mph so it’s fast enough for city streets but not fast enough to get you into trouble. I actually love the silence and I can park it and charge it pretty much anywhere. The batteries are even removable if you have to charge somewhere that doesn’t have any reachable outlets. Also it’s faster and less than half the price of the electric Vespa and pretty cool looking (for a scooter).

    You brought up some great points about the paradox that is Martha. If it had at least 70 miles range and could go 30 mph then it would be a winner for its price and could work well for a lot of city people. Not a fan of the card and phone app part, a lot that can go wrong with that system which would be non-existent with older gas mopeds. It's time you guys built your own electric bike, I made a little Razor mx350 into a 48v 1800w system using a kit I found online and got a (supposed) 28 aH lithium pack from for about $300 and spent maybe another $60 on connectors, a taller seat, an offset handlebar riser, 20" bike tire and tube for the front and some different front and rear gears including a few from a conveyor belt manufacturer that worked with a little trimming. With a 24/72 sprocket ratio it will propel my 180 lbs ass up to 35 but not in a hurry, a 18/80 ratio would only go about 20 but was a wheelie machine. Because I bought a cheap battery it did not survive about 6 months of use but I'm going to try to find a pit bike with a blown motor and do a 72v system not sure what wattage yet.

    Here in Canada this would probably be classified as an "electric powered bicycle", not a "motor scooter". The pedals are required for that category (obviously), along with maximum power and speed. This gets you away from the requirement for any kind of driver's license. It's no different from any other e-bike in terms of classification, just styled differently.

    as a former employee of one of the last Segway/ninebot dealerships in NA, much less the world, i had a ton of hands on experience with this thing. ever since Segway was bought out by the Chinese, their corporate structure, and product quality went way down. this is a classic example of a foreign product, sold in a market it is not made for. the C80 is classified in most of America as a "class 2" electric bicycle, but honestly is not worth what it is sold for. the batteries are encased in a aluminum alloy shell, and fully potted with silicone. 12s pouch cells. they were notorious in the shop that if you didn't keep them charged, they would *die*, and need to be disassembled to be recharged.
    the NFC cards were flimsy, and finicky. the app always takes forever, and you just want more, that it doesn't give.
    get a Gary bike, cut the blue wire, and redo some of your hardware just to make it a surron. a much better option than the c80. Also, the c80 has only a 20ah battery, with a maximum output of 30a. if you want something better for your comfort (as this will kill both you, your brother, and your bum) get an ebike. for a similar price, i would suggest a pedego element, with ALL accessories. then you Also get a warranty from someplace that seems to actually care about customer service.
    same range, better comfort, same price, better service, faster speed, arguable quality differences. better yet, keep it local and buy a REAL bike from some guy down the road!

    I could easily see a use for a slightly upgraded (30mph) version of this for city use. If you live somewhere urban and European like Rome, London, Barcelona etc it could be a nice little thing. Cheap to maintain and fuel plus depending on the place could be stored easier than a regular bike (stick it in your flat at night if you have an elevator and plug it into an outlet.) Cheap to insure and run (no petrol to buy, no vehicle tax) and its nippy to go through urban traffic that doesn't go fast.

      Each state has it's own definitions. In many states, as in many foreign countries there are several levels of everything to the biggest motorcycle down to the tiniest bicycle (powered). Japan is the most restrictive that I would denote in these categories From M1 to M5 Then Bicycle ratings. We'll more than likely get there.
      Over 750cc
      250cc-750cc
      Under 250cc
      Under 150cc
      Under 50cc
      Electric under 'X' hp 30mph 50kph
      Electric under '750watt 20mph 33kph
      Then there are levels of bicycles under that. New York is the worst for this right now. Particularly NYC.

      Make sure you look up all your states regulations. Look for the vehicle that will give you the most mobility and use. A Rad would never be used inside, It's too much like a bicycle. These things are much smaller and can be thrown in the trunk, but they are most like most of the Rads. Although some Rads are over the lower standard in power 750watt 1.5 hp.

    My sister has a 2 door 4 passenger EJEEP, and it's branded as a mobility scooter.
    Has heat/AC, touch screen bluetooth/fm radio, backup camera, power windows & door locks.
    (An annoying Chinese lady yelling at you anytime you put it in reverse)
    Is it worth the $7000 she paid for it...? Absolutely not.
    It's cheap manufactured Chinese garbage. Fit and finish crap. Materials used thin crap. No lift gate for rear access if hauling groceries in the back seat. 25 mile range on level ground. Reduced greatly on hills, or when using accessories. 25 MPH top speed. Less with passengers. The side view mirrors are non functional, and fit loosely on the car.
    The park brake doesn't always catch, or pretty much doesn't work at all. She parked it in front of her house to unload groceries. When she came out for a second load, the EJEEP had rolled into a parked car. This caused the headlight/marker light to pop from their plastic mounts, and the vehicle frame actually pushed through the thin sheet metal and plastic of the body.
    They look kind of cool. Like a bread box on wheels, but never ever buy 1.
    Oh the latest update on it; either the charger no longer charges the batteries, or the batteries have gone bad.

    • @bruceleealmighty
      @bruceleealmighty 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In many states anything over 750w puts your bike in a category that requires registration and at least the lowest form of motorcycle license.

    • @ebikeliverystable
      @ebikeliverystable 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bruceleealmighty yup. But if you're riding it careful enough they will never see that the 500w hub is using a 750w controller. It's the same hub numbers etched on the hub they will look for first. And the 48v battery might be over looked as normal. Same to be said about using a 60v1000w controller and battery. Just stay to the speed limit and not many notice

    • @bruceleealmighty
      @bruceleealmighty 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ebikeliverystable In reference to PA as well as most other states that regulate these electric vehicles. 750w is a cut off. I'm guessing you meant more than? Yes, most officers even motor officers are not familiar with any of the statutes regarding such vehicles and those that are aware are most often incorrect. One has to carry the statutes around with them for such instances particularly in NYC where they attempted to curtail all such vehicles for awhile. It's quite convoluted.
      What's even more hilarious is the application of splitting lanes. California actually stipulating the legality of such and some states attempting to make it completely illegal only to be challenged in court and watered down by precedents every time it's brought up. Like the lawyer that challenges the DOT helmet definition in Santa Cruz CA goading Police into citing him every chance he gets.
