  • On the northwest coast of Madagascar live the Zafimaniry people, an ethnic group known for being the sole remaining repository of an incredible wood crafting knowledge.
    Members of this community are famous for creating delicate and poetic geometric patterns reflecting their history.
    Sadly, the Zafimaniry woodcraft culture is endangered, sharing a common fate with the forest it depends on.
    Follow Dadamundgi and other young and wise souls of the village as they are trying to uphold a region’s age-old tradition. Witness these men’s commitment to the central role nature has come to serve in each and every aspect of their lives.

      And I hope you know that this documentary might be recorded before your father was born.. Its so annoying that when documentary like this got uploaded the information on when it was recorded is not included. This misinformation makes foreigners think this is the current situation in Africa. Madagascar is not like this anymore.. This video is not the difference from watching the U.S wild wild west. This video does not represent current Madagascar as wild wild west does not represent current America. It is just a piece of how things are decades if not a century ago.

    THIS IP'S ARE NATURAL GENIUS ARTISTS.
    THEY ARE VERY PATIENCE OF WHAT THEY DO. IN THE PHILIPPINES WE CALL THIS WORK BAYANIHAN. IT MEANS IT TAKES A COMMUNITY TO BUILD A HOUSE. THEY ALWAYS SHARE A COW'S MEAT FOR THE WHOLE VILLAGE.
    THANKS FOR SHARING THIS DOCUMENTARY. GOODLUCK GOODLUCK

      @Andres Marin
      Here in North America, one of the original indigenous nations was the Pima who also had the same practice. When a couple planned a wedding, the entire local community volunteered to build them a home.
      The same practice also in much of ancient Africa.

      The Amish do the same thing.
      I think this is something that is very common in small communities.
