I actually can't put into words how much I love this but hell I'm gonna try. The progression of the instrumentals in the background, from almost nonexistent to menacing and foreboding and so so so unsettling. The harmonies. The use of Molly's dirge during his section. *The use of Molly's dirge during his section.* You somehow managed to make each of the nein's verses vivid and atmospheric and intense even though they each got like, 2 sentences tops. The line "sinner forged in the heat of a hellfire". Your *voice.*
I think this might have overtaken 'what he keeps on his nightstand' as my favorite song you've written, killer job!

This sounds like a song that'd echo through the world from really nowhere understood when the Nein return to the material plane as true legends and Folk Heroes.
They've done their quest, they've sorted out the City, and now they're coming to set things right.

Honestly I think that this is the best part of C2. The Nein aren't legends, they aren't glorious fighters in an Epic Tale with Chapels to their name... they're Folk People, common rabble and bastard born who will only be sung about around campfires when a bit of intervention is needed.

@@H9092-2 lol, that would be some sort of ending. The MN save the land but die in the process. An old friend is the only one to survive. What the MN did very few would ever know - it happened in the Astral Sea vs. a terror that almost all were unaware existed. But this old friend, he was there. He saw their sacrifice. On his return to the material plane he once again joins a circus and travels from town to town, but this time telling the tale of the MN and singing this song, birthing the legend of the MN.
Yeah, you hit the nail on the head. I've heard people talk about wanting an animated series for the 9 like with Vox Machina (I'm hoping for one too someday), but I've never thought that "The Legend of the Mighty Nein" sounded right.
Vox Machina were very much legends. They were high profile and had publicly powerful connections. They had a keep in the capital/largest city of the continent gifted to them by its king and eventually a castle in another major city. They were _known._
Despite all that the 9 have done for both Xhorhas and the Empire (and the world), their actions have gone mostly unrecognized by the masses. And they like it that way for the most part. Only those that have come into contact with them on their adventures know about _a fraction_ of their deeds. They are very much a grassroots type of group and anonymity suits them just fine.
Whereas Vox Machina were larger than life figures (or at least became them), The Mighty Nein embody stories told on the wind, whispered in the dark, with the common folk wondering how much of it is true and how much is embellished (spoilers, it's all true).
They're a folk tale cobbled together by everyone they've ever met that will get passed down through generations by word of mouth.
That's why if we ever get an animated series for campaign two, "The Tales of the Mighty Nein" would be a good name for it.
Molly's title being "king" ended up being weirdly appropriate.

I know it’s great! The pairings are also perfect. Fjord and Beau, who made the best of a bad situation. Caduceus and Jester, who left their own little world as clerics. Caleb and Yasha, both with literally the same background and also the extreme protectiveness that comes with hurting those they loved, and Nott/Veth and Molly, the two who have been reborn multiple times.
I feel like this is a psychology test. Which way did you hear it at first? If it was a statement, you're probably a kind hearted person wanting to defend the land from evil. If you read it as a question/threat well....Cad will say some nice words at your funeral.
Honestly I hear this towards the end, the meaning of "fear for your life" changing from declaration to warning- then kinda mixing at the very end.
I heard it as “they’ll save you if you’re a good person who is in danger, but be worried if you want your life to stay normal.”

Imagine someday in the end of the campaing , Mercer goes and and say: As you enter the tavern to rest you hear from an improvised stage, a bard making a simple beat, and looking straigh to you as he sings: "Oohh ohhh Dont you fear ..."
Please don't misinterpret what follows, but:

I thought the same thing. Campaign 3 years in the future this is a bards song in some tavern they end up in. Or bar chant/ drinking song....🤯

Yeah, we know. I hear this song less as a song sung about these heroes, but rather their own song of accepting their fate to face this blight, to accept the path of a reluctant hero. It's their song of redemption - their acceptance of who they were and gathering the confidence and courage to believe in themselves and face what's in front of them. This entire campaign has been this exact theme. I love it. Well played, Chase.

I love how different this piece is. The parallel harmonies make it feel so full ugh soooo good. It gets like more sinister as it continues with the rolling bells too, you're too good, Chase!
When I first saw the background I was like "aww too bad molly isn't there" then at the end "aw crap Molly's there..."

I absolutely love the "torn from her child by the river verse", river is so often used in various dark country, dark sounding folk songs, and fits so well here! Also the use of Molly's eyes never shut? Aaaaah!

Ok but after the M9 stays mostly anonymous and in disguise while they deal with Trent but with all those eyes it gets tricky sometimes. The song is new, and not well known but after a few weeks it spreads far enough that the M9 hears is everywhere they go. Hundreds of years later, after even Caduceus is gone, there still a saying in the Empire: If you see the group with eyes, be sure to sing to thank them.

Imagine arriving into Shady Creek run as an apocalypse is in progress & hearing this sung by everyone on the streets because they don’t fear, for coming of the Nein. (no that didn’t happen but it’d be cool if it did tho)

oh man, when i noticed it was 2 of them per verse, i was just thinking "huh wonder what they'll do for the one by themselves?", and let me tell you, when the eyes showed up after nott's bit, i about halfway stood up in my desk chair, that was great
i like how Caleb and Yasha's verses are paired together, two of the most tragic members of the Nein
One was manipulated into killing his whole family and still tortures himself because of it, and the other lost her wife just because they weren't each other's assigned spouse [Rest well, Zuala...Your mate is still going strong]

I stumbled across this randomly on YT Music and after getting hooked and replaying it about three times, I started to notice the word choices and thought “hey, is this… a song about the Mighty Nein?”

I am already hearing this as a track in the Mighty Nein´s OST. The decision of what to add when it does come out is entirely up to the ones in charge of making it but I already am making a tiny wish for them to include this.

So this is one of my favorite songs EVER and it recently became a bonding moment for my son and I. He's autistic and only enjoys specific YT videos but he's grown up on CR cuz of his Critter mommy :). He not only watches in full no pauses which is rare he sits by me, pulls my arms around him then holds my wrists while I snap along and quietly sing in his ear

I can imagine an opening of a Mighty Nein show where they are all walking to meet up on the Ball Eater, and as they all walk alone, their part of the song plays cut with scenes of their origins. I love this song.
