- Here we have tested improved cylinder, modified, improved modified and full Chokes. For this test we used my Browning B525 shotgun in 12 gauge.

Basically the tighter the choke restriction the denser the pattern will be on a target at a givin distance variables would be the shot size used and changing the distance. Improved cylinder and modified are good choices for clay pidgeon shooting while full works well for Turkey or waterfowl hunting. When a shot gun is discharged the shot first comes out in what is called a shot string of about two to two and a half feet long as it travels forward it opens up into a pattern this,of course, all happens in a fraction of a second. Older scatterguns were manufactured with fixed choke restrictions while our newer ones have the invector system, removable and selective for what ever choke or combination of chokes you desire for an intended purpose. I hope this is additive info for what these two Brits were showing us.
These two Brits are full of shit anyway...Browning should never let these guys near weapons...because the countries are so different anyway...And their shooting styles are way different than the USA...mate!
Such a helpful video, and the coments bellow too, specially for a beginner shooter like myself. Thanks for taking the time!
Very well done gentlemen. Very informative and after 25 years of shooting, I was finally able to visualize the differences between shotgun chokes. Very cool - thank you for your time and effort!
this is a good video that can explain the differences in chokes to my class mates during my duck hunting presentation
+Elijah Collier I hope it went well :)
Great, I understood the basic idea anyway but good to see the results for real. Only found your channel by accident but now a regular. Thanks !
Excellent video, being more into the self defense, combat area of shotguns had questions about Chokes. This video cleared up many of them. Thanks
As it happens I am also involved in 'practical shotgun' competitions (tactical shooting) as well as hunting. And, as I tried this a couple of weeks ago, I can confirm that a solid slug works perfectly fine out of an improved modified choke as does 00 busckshot or SG. A lot of guys at my local club use adjustable chokes welded on to their cylinder bore mossberg 500's. Thanks for watching :)
I think you did a great job of explaining what the different chokes for. Which is why I clicked on your video.
Nice to see you can have a little fun in the UK with guns.
Yea we get chance to play a bit, and hopefully not shoot anyone in the process : )
2 minutes in, I already got what I want. Good video sir! Thank you!
I appreciate the explanation, shooting, and learned way more than expected!
Great video and explanation! Thank you sir!
A nice introduction to chokes, eloquently delivered, at a level appropriate for a beginner like me.
My grateful thanks
Thanks for watching mate and don't forget to check out 'shotgun cartridges explained' and 'shotgun cartridges: plastic vs fibre wad' :)
As a relative new comer to the Shotgun shooting world I have found your instruction videos incredible helpful. Well done keep them coming.
+Mark Earls Thanks for watching Mark :)
Very informative - thanks for taking the time to go through the different chokes and showing how to insert them into the barrel. Really appreciate the added detail. I'm thinking about getting into clay target and am still coming to grips with all of the terminology. Videos like this one are gold!
I'm glad you found it useful! Have a look around the channel, particularly the explained the series. I will soon be doing a video about cleaning and lubricating your chokes as failure to do so, over time, can make them cease up and not come out. Thanks for watching :)
As a first time gun owner and clay pigeon shooter this video as helped me thank you
Great video guys. Just brought my first shotgun and your video was a great explanation followed by a great demonstration of the different chokes to help me choose. Cheers
Thanks for the video. Just bought my first shotgun and it comes with a few chokes. Found this very informational. I an pretty knowledgeable about rifles and pistols but im a little ignorant about shot guns. Keep up the good work
Also just bought my first shotgun. Videos like this one are the go-to learning center . Want to learn about chokes? Watch a video. Want some input on a handgun you are contemplating? Watch a video. Want comparisons on multiple similar firearms? Watch a video. My new shotgun comes with 3 chokes. I could read the instructions, but where is the fun in that. Not only did I get a good explanation here, but had the added benefit of an English accent, and automatic improvement to any presentation in English. It was also very useful to see the differences in the shot patterns resulting from the different chokes. May I simply say, Bravo.
As an absolute beginner I found your video very informative and easy to follow.
Steve Thatcher I'm glad you found it useful! Thanks for watching :)
Good job guys, certainly helped me for when I actually make use of my licence.
I'm just glad some one took all this time and effort to explaing this. Especially for me, which i have just starting shooting shotguns. Thank you!

I know this video is older but I just got an over under shotgun. Did not know the difference in chokes and what they do. Thank you for this video it was very informative for me. 👍
That's why I made it. I too was a novice at that time and was just passing information on. I am glad this helped you :)

My wife and I are just embarking on Shotgun as a joint hobby; like all hobbies there is a lot of "Im cleaver than you" myths about guns, cartridges and chokes to name but two. I found the cartridge and chokes clips extremely clear and the demonstrations just re in force the narrative [a thousand word paint on picture - i.e video demonstration]. At least I have a rough idea now chat cheapo cartridge to use as a start to miss my targets...... thanks again - very helpful.
I'm glad you found it useful! Thanks for watching :)
Great video chaps. I'm hoping to have a chat with you at the 2019 British Shooting Show. I couldn't go this year unfortunately.
Tom's yes's are legendary!!
great video on chokes helped out alot
+Joe Cole Glad it helped yo out, have a look around the channel there may be other videos that interest you. Thanks for watching :)
Great video brother.
In the UK you can own shot guns up to a maximum of 3 shots on a shot gun certificate, there is no limit to how many you can own and they can be fitted with sileners. Rimfire, center fire, air rifles (over 12ftbs) and shot guns with more than 3 shots go on your Fire Arms Certificate. You can also own silencers/moderators for these For pest/hunting you must use hollow points, polymer tips(like V-Max) or other frangible ammo. Most can keep 600 rounds of each caliber owned, no limit on cartridges.
Good video , thanks for posting , as a new shooter I found it very informative ;-) ...... going to watch the video on cartridges now .
cheers

Excellent presentation
Thanks for watching :)
thanks a bunch, good video
Very informative, much appreciated from Virginia.
Thanks for watching :)
The top barrel is the same weight wether you shoot the top or bottom barrel first, it is the fact that the bottom barrel is closer to the point of resistance( your shoulder) that reduces the lift.
Tnx man! Really nice vid! Helps a lot :)
great video thank you
Shooting towards a road.... what a genius!!
That road is way out of range for a shotgun
Cool vid fellas, I use IM or Full in the semi auto, seems to be working for me out to 40 yards confidently, after that I get a little hit or miss, still plenty of time to practice though.
I’m late but great video. Very helpful thank you 😊
Great video, very intresting thankss :)
Great video, thanks a lot!

No It is a bolt action with a 2 round clip if you want to see a picture the model # is 385kb it can hold a 3 in. Shell or a 2 3/4 in. Shell this shot gun is pretty cool also I did some research this gun is a bout 40 years old as it was purchased in 1974 any ways hope you have a good day
very informative for begginers
Great Video. Thanks a lot
I hope it was helpful! Thanks for watching :)
Very informative video
Thank you very much
Thanks for watching :)
excellent
Good informative video. Thank you sir.
Thanks for watching :)
Just a note, generally your meant to have a tighter choke in the bottom barrel in a o/u that your shooting bottom barrel first, this is due to the guns being mainly used for driven pheasant, partridge and duck the first barrel will be used at a bird farther away, then the top barrel used (with a wider pattern) for when the bird has got closer .
+Max Hickling Many people shoot the top barrel first so they can reload after a single shot more quickly. But either way you want a wider choke for your first shot and a tighter one for your second because on the second shot after a miss the chances are the bird will be further away.
Really good comparison video guys..
I noticed in your Shotgun Cartridges Explained video that you have an assortment of Fibre Wad shells and was wondering how well they pattern through each choke compared to plastic wad shells :-)
Nice lesson.
Seems odd learning about firearms from across the pond.
Well done
Comanche3Six Thanks for watching :)
an idea for an other video could you do a comparison of some steel loads for water fowl hunting similar to how you did the shot gun cartages explained video? thanks man keep up the good vids
Shotguns are probably my favorite guns of all time :-)
+The Kentucky Patriot They are certainly the most versatile, thanks for watching :)
I know it's useless, but I like the spiky door breacher chokes!
Another very informative video for people like I who are new to shotguns. Unfortunately, my "American" gun has no choke capability, but I intend to try it on a trap field anyway, just for fun. Having seen Tom shoot on this video and the one explaining shot shells, I would recommend having him do all the shooting on any future videos, while you do most of the talking. :)
Cylinder bore will still do the job out to 30 yards especially if you are using plastic wad shells. Tom generally does the shooting in instructional vids yes but I am getting better, check out my latest video of me pigeon shooting :)
Great effort and I enjoyed watching your video. I just purchased a Browning GP TRAP which comes with 5 chokes, IMP, IMP MOD / LIGHT FULL / FULL / and EXTRA FULL. I need to pattern these at around 40 yards which is where I expect to be hitting the clays. Do you have a video of patterning at this distance? Thanks.
I patterned steel and lead shot at 40 yards with a modified choke in this video:-
th-cam.com/video/nkwKAyAmzgY/w-d-xo.html
good vid man! I have a full fixed chock on my semi that I try and shoot clays with and it really doesn't go as well as I would like! does allow me a few extra seconds to get on target as the clay get further away. definitely not a criticism but just who I have been told is that there are chokes tighter then full called extra full for turkey hunting. also I have been told that foster or rifled slugs shoot the best and most accurate out of an improved cylinder.
Very well explained. [Like]
Thanks for watching :)
Just got a Winchester 101 o/u and there's no chokes but the barrels are marked top modified and bottom improved cylinder I use for clays as got it for good price but it's really a game gun
+YourFatMumFlys Anything within 30 yards will be fine with that setup :)
