    Mazda sold nearly 150,000 CX-5 crossovers in the US for 2020! That means that the CX-5 outsold big name players like the Jeep Cherokee, Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, GMC Terrain, and Volkswagen Tiguan in the most popular car segment in America. There are rumors that the next-generation model will embrace luxury in full force with a new RWD platform and a straight-6 cylinder engine. How do you guys feel about that huge change? Would that make the CX-5 even more appealing or is Mazda making a huge mistake?

      Sign us up...we had a 2017 CX5 GT and loved it, so much so we leased another 2020 GTR with the Turbo...my wife loves driving it...if Mazda went more luxury and upscale but still keeps prices competitive and even under their future competition ? We are on board..

      not sure about Mazda going full luxury. think that would price it out of ppl's budgets and it doesn't have the brand cache to compete with established luxury players. they're in a good spot right now with premium approach

    The scrolling wheel/buttons is way better than a touch screen after a few days. It is so comfortable to use and appropriately placed.

      Why not keep both ways like the 2016 cx-5's are. It has the touch screen and has the knobs. driving above 5 mpg the touch screen becomes unavailable so the knobs are to be used. Mazda should keep it like this and should not have changed it.

    No. Mazda doesn't need to work on their transmission. It's one of the reasons the competition is so much more unreliable. Why should Mazda change? They placed 3 cars in the Consumer Reports top 10 most reliable listing with that transmission. They don't need to change at all.

    2 features the CX-5 Signature has that a lot of competitors don’t are ventilated seats and a 360 degree camera. I live in Las Vegas, the Mojave Desert. If you plan to buy this car use when it's out of warranty the 6 speeds transmissions are bullet proof compared to the 8-10 speeds. They're a lot more reliable & drive with less gear hunting. At least it doesn't come with a CVT.

      I have a 2017 Mazda cx9 2.5 turbo and 2015 Mazda cx5 2.5 non-turbo. The cx 9 has 69,000, still drives strong. I only encountered problems such as right cv drive shaft axle leaking after I took it to an auto shop for tire alignment, gladly it was still covered by warranty (problem occurred before 60,000 and infotainment system glitches after a routine maintenance at the dealership. I immediately informed the dealership about the infotainment but they wanted to charge me for repair. About the cx5, it has no any issue at 57, 000 miles. • @sm753
    @sm753 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    re: touchscreen, after driving my CX-5 for a year, I honestly like the knob interface better than a touchscreen. My most recent trip, I had a Nissan rental for a week and used Android Auto with it (as I do with my CX-5), I gotta say the knob interface required less attention (eyes off the road) compared to having to look, find, and then tap on the screen with my finger. Also less having to reach forward to touch the screen and compromising "driving position". I've logged every fill up with a gas app on my phone after 1.5 years. My worst was around 20 mpg, best is around 30 mpg (all highway driving), average is just a hair below 24 mpg. Not bad for AWD turbo. Best description over in class competitors is that it's a compact SUV that drives/handles like a car.
    But you're right, that 10" screen makes upgrading from my 2019 very tempting. My ONLY complaint about my 2019 GTR is the infotainment unit.

Complaining about this stuff could lead Mazda down the dark path that their competition has taken with their disastrous CVT and 9 speed attempts. Sofyan mentioned at least 3 or 4 times that he wants Mazda to add a panoramic sunroof. 😂 I have to say that I am thrilled that Mazda has kept a standard size sunroof. Panoramic sunroofs often leak and most let in a lot of heat and light. Something really big to potentially break and leak a few years down the road. I hope Mazda doesn't listen to the continuous calls for panoramic sunroofs from the TH-cam reviewers. Not everyone wants one. Also thrilled that Mazda has not added auto stop/start. The ventilated seats are nice for warmer areas like Florida and Texas. Big plus that the CX-5 has not gone to a CVT like most of its competitors. I don't like the piano black plastic around the shifter. I wish Mazda had gone with a matte black plastic which would be more scratch resistant. The cargo space is on the small side which limits the customers that can choose the CX-5. I am one of those that needs the extra cargo space so it's a tough decision, but other than that, the CX-5 checks all the boxes. A lot of attention to detail by Mazda shows pride in their craft. Nice SUV.

      Regular sunroofs leak at about the same frequency as panoramic sunroofs.
      They're about as hard and as expensive to fix as a regular sunroof.

    I have a 2019 Mazda 3 and don't mind not having a touchscreen. Mazda doesn't have a lot of gimmicks with multiple menus and submenus or excessive amounts of menu options in general so a scroll wheel is just fine. The scroll wheel is only annoying when trying to enter addresses in the factory embedded navigation. If people prefer to use Waze or Google Maps for navigation, I don't see the need for an infotainment with touchscreen abilities when you can type in the address from your phone. And as of this comment, turn-by-turn is NOT displayed on the HUD when using Waze or Google Maps. Obviously not a deal breaker for me, but it is a nice to see the directions in your line of sight.

    The car is a really good car to have. I just took one home today and so far it's really good. The car is a bit on the loud side not just on the sport mode or the off-road mode but in normal driving as well. And it's the loudest when you accelerate from a complete stop to go. I am happy so far with the car even including its size and passenger space which I actually don't find it that small. I have a very tall child and when my child sits at the bag, my child doesn't find it to be too small. The vehicle is also quite tall so it accommodates tall passengers and driver really well. The only thing that I found with the Mazda CX-5 is that it's not that good of a value. The price is lower but you also have lot less features including safety alerts, and collision avoidance and etc. Compared to other cars where you might pay more but you also get a lot more in return in that you get a lot bigger bang for the buck. We also have a KIA Telluride and we find it has lot better value. The price is steeper but the car is pack with features and functions and its suspension is lot better and the car is super quiet.

    Live with a Mazda for more than a few days. You will start to hate touch screens. Over time, the rotary dial becomes incredibly intuitive, and doesn't require your attention nearly as much. Also, not having to reach constantly just to get to a new radio station is just better. Mazda is right, and I'd challenge you to get a long term tester. Live with it everyday, and the next time you use a touch screen, it will be an annoyance.

  • @craig5042
    @craig5042 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Like CX5 and CX30. Just a point from us older Redline fans. A six speed automatic should be more adequate for most of us. I know you're an enthusiast as am I but I don't see the point of 8-10 speed automatics unless if an exotic brand. I'm 70's teen, my first car I bought in high school in 1979 was a 70 Pontiac GTO rust bucket with 4 speed manual I purchased for $1000. Back then most cars had three transmission types. Manual trans options were; 4 On-The-Floor (common with Datsun & Toyota models at the time), 3 On-The-Tree (American brands column shifter) or the popular 3 Speed- Automatic. Mom had a 1972 Ford Maverick with a 3-Speed Column Shifter. I wonder if more gears is just another marketing gimmick. Agree those transmissions likely improve fuel economy and maybe slightly better performance but at what cost? I'm a subscriber to a couple car magazines. The reviews typically include complaints of those 8-10 speed transmissions because they are annoyingly looking for the right gear except in high priced dual-clutch models. We lived a long time with 3 speed automatics. Even 2-Speed automatics as in the 1960s GM Powerglides. Long way of saying please give Mazda engineers are break. :-) A 6 speed automatic is twice the gears I had growing up . I'd rather have Mazda's 6-speed auto than a competitor's CVT any day. I had a Nissan Sentra with CVT transmission as a rental last year. It stunk. Enjoy your reviews, I share them with friends, you do a great job. Had to comment before we hear automotive reviews in 5 years say 8-speed automatics are inadequate. :-) Just my thoughts. Thank you for being authentic.

I've done quite a bit of research in this segment and Mazda overall seems to offer the best value for the $. Hyundai Tuscon is a compelling offer as well. Rav4 is a distant 3rd simply because I'm not a huge fan of the interior, and Toyota is a little more nickel-and-dimey with their offerings. Mazda offers more standard features than anyone.
