To RicardBCN86, I've spent more time on character creation than on breathing, so i really didn't believe what you wrote...So, i got the whole soundtrack and found it under the name of "Heart Of Winter Theme"... I didn't have heart of winter installed, thats why i didn't hear it anywhere. But thanks anyway...
Icewind Dale II had a really neat set up. I love the plot and the locations. I just wish they did a better job with the underdark and the monastery was impossible for me. The end was a little too easy
One of the most overplayed games ever. For me Icewind Dale has a special spot in my heart. The atmosphere is what makes this game such a beauty. I think, like some others, it takes a step forward than being just a simple game.
I miss games like Icewind Dale, Neverwinternights 1, and other such RPGs...games these days are made more to show off some flashy graffics or new engine and stuff like that...but these older ones have that kind of epic feel going on wich made playing them a real pleasure
I happen to be someone who did not any knowledge of 3.0 D&D rules (except for the first IWD, played twice, second time using HoF mode + expansion, then after completing the 2 IWD games, I completed BG2 with expansion in hardest mode) I did not invest any tracking skills. Therefore, the forest maze part was a very tough nut to crack even I followed the walkthrough. But yes, I noticed that anyone who knew the necessity of investing tracking BEFOREHAND, had a very easy ride.
Loved IWD 1 and 2 Played through the whole first game on heart of winter mode and the expansions too, it was rough but fun(i never saved and reloaded a game more times in my life).
its not just a gem ... its one of the best RPG's up to date. but hey, probably i say this cuz i remember the old days when the story, the characters and the music were actually important ..
Film Soundtracks have nothing on this type of music; Jeremy Soule, Inon Zur and Michael Hoenig FTW! . After listening to the main theme for Never Winter nights 2 it played in my head several times before I could finally get to sleep at all :D
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I used to play this and then we lost it!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAA! I really wanna play it!!!
@MrGuedogeneral Oh, I've played the BG series. I consider BG1 to be one of the best gaming experiences of my lifetime. I'll definitely have to pick up Icewind Dale sometime. Only problem is that I have a widescreen monitor which distorts the older games.
I know what you mean, I'm playing Icewind Dale 2 as I type this, just finished BG 2 exp. Unlike modern mmo's that are just about getting loot and being good at pvp, these games have depth and story.
I feel exactly the same. Todays' games are all about graphics and such and most of them have in some way the same shallow storyline. I'm playing IC 1 + 2 and BG 1 + 2 once every month and it is not surprising to me, that I'm not getting bored. The reason is very obvious for me: it is the story and the characters. It's as simply as that. But today you need to buy a new PC for every new game that's released, only to find out, that you will never touch it again, after you've finished it.
@CelestialStriker The first thing you need to do is to upgrade your video card drivers. Crank up the game configurations as well (make sure that 3D acceleration is enabled). Then you really should install the Widescreen Mod. You can download it from the Gibberlings Three. Just Google "Gibberlings Three", and once you're on the website, click "Downloads" on the menu on the top of the page. You'll find the mod available for download there. Just scroll down a bit.
You are absolutely right this game was fantastic for me before a few years ago. I think a good story and soundtrack is more better than graphics, unfortunetly today ..... today is everything worse ... music... films....games.... but what should we do ?
Damnit, I got stuck in the time loop, couldn´t get any good hits on that witch casting the spell... Then my computer crashed just when I had completed Baldur´s Gate 2 and started on Throne of Bhaal... Icewind Dale 2 rules!
0:00 Main Menu 0:32 The Goblin Hordes 1:06 Docks 1:48 Sherincal of the Chimera 2:20 ? 2:48 Skeleton of a Town 3:46 The Shaengarne 4:29 Dragon Battle 5:16 The Severed Hand
@TheMarine250789 So true man, so many of the best games I've ever played were back around 2000. Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Starcraft, Warcraft 3, Diablo 2, and Nox. Such a shame games like that aren't made anymore with exception of Blizzard's. But as for console games I've actually found Fallout 3 and Mass Effect really fun, and if that is the future of RPGs I'm willing to embrace it.
Congratulations for comment. This games, like Icewind Dale 1 and 2, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Neverwinter Nights... all are very good. The games today are only garbage.
Actually, the reason why I would rate IWD2 slightly below IDW and BG2 is because it had two major flaws: the forest puzzle and the dragon eye puzzle. The Ice temple puzzle was a bit hard too, but it wasn't nothing intolerable. But the 1st 2 puzzles I mentioned, was simply not worth spending 3+ hours just to solve the puzzle alone; I had to go to read some walkthroughs.
@nebadin I'm sure that would work when it comes to sound problems, but while I don't speak German, I interpreted this as being the classical graphics problem with the black boxes around spoken text ingame. And for that, what I suggested would help. :)
The time loop in Dragon's Eye was highly annoying, that's for damn certain. The forest wasn't too bad though, as long as you'd remembered to give someone tracking skills.
I am one of those rare person who liked IWD equally to BG2 (did not finish the original BG; only went as far to ch4 [3times!], but got bored and gave up) followed by IWD2 very closely. Now if IWD only had more sub-classes as BG2, and more diverse enemies (mages and dragons!), then IWD would totally own BG2. I really wish someone with my tastes with awesome programing abilities would mod BG2 to make that happen...
@TheMarine250789 I couldn't agree more. I own a ps3 and xbox360, and I still rather play dnd rpg games now on my old pc. Me personally it's always been neverwinter nights and morrowind that I really liked, though icewind dale 2 is great too. I don't know if the game was bugged for me, but there was almost never any music playing for me. Only in some big fights it went on, and when I was loading a game the main theme was there obviously.
Bard class is bugged, you can use his songs unlimited times (while paused) and get bonus effect from each of the song. Only for couple of rounds, but still, you can use it every time and get i.e. 100 armor class lol
Uh, while Black Isle did a lot of good stuff with D&D, I think they'll really be remembered for Fallout, as it, combined with Diablo and BG, basically revived the RPG genre, which is now probably the most profitable genre of video game.
Wow. This SERIOUSLY brings me back. :D I remember how awesome all the black isle games were/are. I don't suppose you know where I could download the soundtracks??
@Philhelm Sorry for replying to an old comment but, the Icewind Dale series are excellent to say the least. If you have played the baldur's gate series you will love these. If you have not played the BG series I would humbly suggest you pick up them both. There are no RPG's to date that can even come close. NWN is a joke
I found IWD2's combat and interface more polished than BG2's, which is why I like IWD2 more. It's slightly annoying that there's absolutely no character development or interaction between any party members, but the complete control you have over the party setup kinda makes up for it. Oh, and at least you don't have Aerie whining about her wings all the time in IWD2. :P
My top three picks are the Dock Theme 1:08 , Monastery 3:48 , and Kuldahar (which I didn't find on here - sorry, I'm skimming). Nothing against Soule because hes fantastic but I really think Inon Zur took some of the Soule tracks to the next level - for example, i think the orchestration on the title theme is much crisper in IWDII, ditto the Kuldahar theme.
@friedlish I first ran it in safe mode because of graphics problems but sound didnt work in safe mode hence why i mentioned that rather than just saying "run in safe mode" sorry if I didn't make that clear :P
They should make - maybe even remake - more of these games. I don't mind the text heavy game - it's like reading/playing a great book- as long the story is good and the text is in the middle. (NW had it up in the corner) Torment is still the best.
Diablo was created on the same time and it could sell himself 11 Millions times.Icewind dale 3 millions or something. But they are much different games in my opinion.
There was a time where a video game was a medium to tell a story and have fun with gameplay, but today it's used for graphics and characters with large boobs... Long live 2d!!! RIP black isle
If that becomes true, then God help us all. We will have devolved back into Pong, only this time there will just be a bat, floating endlessly in pixel space, longing eternally for a ball...
I'd love to see a good 2-D RPG again. The new games have great graphics, but no soul and gameplay. Dragon Age, while good, was in no way the spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate. Sadly, I've never played the Icewind Dale series, but hopefully that will change.
can anyone tell me the name of the song at 2:21? pleeaseeee!! :( it sounds divine, but i didnt hear it while i was playing the game ...played it 6 times, never gets boring, and sometimes i just dont wanna finish it xD
@TheMarine250789 While not as good as old classics, there are a few new games that are actually good, Dragon age, mass effect, NWN 2 for example (Neverwinter nights 2 Mask of the betrayer was extremely good).
People need to do their research more thoroughly, there are MANY great games coming, you just don't look closely enough: Project Eternity Underrail Age of decadence Eschalon 3 The Avernum series Path of Exile Grim Dawn
IWD2 had the best graphics and music and atmosphere of all the IE games, but also the most annoying gameplay segments. The Eight Chambers, Chahopek The Guardian, battle squares, that godawful time loop in chapter V... gnagh.
@Philhelm I have a widescreen moniter as well. I had severe problems with IWD2 crashing in the character creation screen, i got a patch to fix this problem and now it runs fine. Perhaps something similar will work for you, depending on what you mean by distort. What kind of moniter do you have?
I like both BG series and IWD. However I don't think that it has a better plot than BG2, it certainly has better music and graphics, the latter because it's newer. The atmosphere though is more gloomy in IWD especially 2. Maybe that's why some people prefer it. If you like that kind of thing though I'd suggest that you play Planescape Torment.
@zarakhast I wouldn't say "much better" than NWN, not the first anyway. Sure the original campaign could have been better, but you've got to remember the HotU expansion, which was a rather worthy experience. I agree about Oblivion and Diablo though.
To RicardBCN86,
I've spent more time on character creation than on breathing, so i really didn't believe what you wrote...So, i got the whole soundtrack and found it under the name of "Heart Of Winter Theme"...

Beautiful. Icewind Dale II have a wonderful soundtrack.
That wizard name: Raistlin!
OMG my favourite character in Dragonlance saga :3 :)
So glad to see that ;)
man.. this game was beautiful. it required alot of patience at times but it was worth it. and the soundtrack is just perfect. kudos to Inon Zur
I just love the theme of the final battle against Isair and Madae.
And I just love this game !
Those screen shots are killing me! Great times!
I miss games like Icewind Dale, Neverwinternights 1, and other such RPGs...games these days are made more to show off some flashy graffics or new engine and stuff like that...but these older ones have that kind of epic feel going on wich made playing them a real pleasure
Nice compilation!
I miss one however.
When Kuldahar Pass was cleared from
undeads, after that can be heard the
most beautiful song in this game.
I happen to be someone who did not any knowledge of 3.0 D&D rules (except for the first IWD, played twice, second time using HoF mode + expansion, then after completing the 2 IWD games, I completed BG2 with expansion in hardest mode) I did not invest any tracking skills. PST, IWD, BG, we will never see another.....and that makes me cry
its not just a gem ... its one of the best RPG's up to date. but hey, probably i say this cuz i remember the old days when the story, the characters and the music were actually important ..
Ahhh, a masterpiece... just a masterpiece.
Very few films have music as epic as this :)
Film Soundtracks have nothing on this type of music; Jeremy Soule, Inon Zur and Michael Hoenig FTW! . After listening to the main theme for Never Winter nights 2 it played in my head several times before I could finally get to sleep at all :D
That's the best reply I've ever seen in youtube. :)
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I used to play this and then we lost it!! WAAAAAAAAAAAAA! I really wanna play it!!!
great game! great story line and music!
4 ever, began 6 years old, now I'm 20, still gaming!
I might aswell start playing this again ^^
such a nostalgia..
good job man. this is a nice compilation :)
@omen6x13
thats the black raven monastery theme one of my faves
I am simply speechless
@MrGuedogeneral Oh, I've played the BG series. I consider BG1 to be one of the best gaming experiences of my lifetime. I'll definitely have to pick up Icewind Dale sometime. Only problem is that I have a widescreen monitor which distorts the older games.

Icewind Dale rules!!!

I fucking love the Targo's theme.
I don't know the game and never played it but the concept art is great
@wovenv2 it's theme of heart of winter (Icewind Dale I expansion)

And cant argue with the strong soundtrack either.

@TheMarine250789 So, true. As John Irenicus would put it: Will you cling to the past, or can you see through the pain?
Yes, you're right, I had a bad source of information, my fault.
@TheMarine250789 I couldn't agree more. I own a ps3 and xbox360, and I still rather play dnd rpg games now on my old pc. Me personally it's always been neverwinter nights and morrowind that I really liked, though icewind dale 2 is great too. Super Power Epic.
No other media have music like games!
4:39 is my character, and by the way my fave is the one wer ur fighting at the palisade but i didnt find it on here
Well said man
Wow. This SERIOUSLY brings me back. :D I remember how awesome all the black isle games were/are.
I don't suppose you know where I could download the soundtracks??
The game seems to be working just fine with Windows 7. I have already played the Baldur's Gate games, and I have a job.
*goes to play Icewind Dale 2*
What a coincidence! My party actually has a bard. I'm not even kidding.
@Philhelm Sorry for replying to an old comment but, the Icewind Dale series are excellent to say the least. If you have played the baldur's gate series you will love these. Icewind Dale II #FTW
@friedlish I first ran it in safe mode because of graphics problems but sound didnt work in safe mode hence why i mentioned that rather than just saying "run in safe mode" sorry if I didn't make that clear :P
Something that is not explained, though, is why the half-orc woman at 3.19 has a dead cat on a stick protruding from her backside.
I found on my new pc with windows seven i just had to modify a .sys file to make sound work in safe mode then it ran like a champ there.
They should make - maybe even remake - more of these games.
I don't mind the text heavy game - it's like reading/playing a great book- as long the story is good and the text is in the middle. (NW had it up in the corner)
Torment is still the best.
I think that's the Icewind Dale theme in IWD 1
Not a lot of people know this gem. It's all skyrim and dragon age these days.
Diablo was created on the same time and it could sell himself 11 Millions times.Icewind dale 3 millions or something. But they are much different games in my opinion.
Brilliant OST, but 2:48 is where its mostly at imo
Where can i get the IWD2 ost? i love it.
There was a time where a video game was a medium to tell a story and have fun with gameplay, but today it's used for graphics and characters with large boobs...
Long live 2d!!!
RIP black isle
What, you mean like nice and polite and easy to get on with? ;)
If that becomes true, then God help us all. We will have devolved back into Pong, only this time there will just be a bat, floating endlessly in pixel space, longing eternally for a ball...

Project Eternity
Underrail
Age of decadence
Eschalon 3
The Avernum series
Path of Exile
Grim Dawn
IWD2 had the best graphics and music and atmosphere of all the IE games, but also the most annoying gameplay segments. The Eight Chambers, Chahopek The Guardian, battle squares, that godawful time loop in chapter V... gnagh.
personally I like BG series more but IWD is unqieu in its own way!
Whats the name of the 2nd track? Also played during the attack on the palisade during the beginning
Well it's been 3 years but it's "The Goblin Hordes".
Exactly
if you like rpg's and d&d you should try it!
liked the game number one theme more... there was more power in that theme
What song starts at 3:48 its really provokes emotion.
@Philhelm I have a widescreen moniter as well. I had severe problems with IWD2 crashing in the character creation screen, i got a patch to fix this problem and now it runs fine. Perhaps something similar will work for you, depending on what you mean by distort. What kind of moniter do you have?

@zarakhast

so share the sountrack starting at 2:52 ?
I think Icewind Dale (with Dorns Deep patch) is better than Icewind Dale 2 (Patched). BG2 and IWD2 use both the infinity engine and D&D rules.
