The American species standard 124 has the same power output over the Abarth, so perhaps this would be the better test between these two, to re focus on the worth of the Abarth I’m driving terms. Just for interest my son has the 124 Lusso and had it retuned to deliver 195 bop with increase in torque. The result was spectacular and only cost him 500 euros in in Spain. It also saw off an Abarth traveling down to Gibraltar this year. It’s possibly a case of having the Abarth with adding the features of the 124 GT , which would make the real difference and the purists choice, and make it ore valuable in years to come.
You are not wrong and the engine maybe the “same” but they do not perform the same. I know I tested all the fiat/ Abarth and MX5 before deciding on the Abarth version,

Why not the 2.0 MX5 then? More torque (and without the lag), firmer suspension, LSD, Recaro Alcantara seats (more upmarket) and so on... Seems like a better choice than the Fiat.

Whilst the Fiat may not be overly pretty, I would take it over the Mazda. Over the years, the Mazda has become too common and is now rather dull to look at. And to hear a road tester say a Fiat is better built than a Mazda! Well, that is a turn up for the books! Plus more power for my money. It is a no-brainer.
How long did "more power" last? Till 2019 ND2 iteration extracting 181 hp with minor tweaks involving nothing more than pistons/rods and head work that should have been done originally to the borrowed economy car motor sealing the 124's fate as the slow version...Fiat SHOULD have double downed and gone with a 2.0 Turbo along with better suspension and brakes than ND2...THAT would have been something! Its like Fiat did as little as possible to get the tiny 1.4 to exceed mx5 power...Seriously? That was a short sighted rather lame choice if you ask me
I don't like Fiat from principal but I can imagine owning this one. Question is how long will last easy days? If car works as it should just keeping service intervals, well I am willing to forget its Fiat badge, because visually this car is move in the time!

Tough call... do I want the car that has Japanese reliability all around or the one that has Japanese reliability except under the hood where it has a *cough* Fiat *cough* engine... ? Also the 124's prices are a bit loony when compared to the MX-5. Spec-ed up, it's quite a bit more expensive and some extras aren't even available unless you go for the insanely expensive Abarth. Plus the 124's turbo is pretty old school and has noticeable lag down low. The 2.0 in the MX-5 is a pretty sweet engine with very linear power-delivery and frugal drinking habits. I'm running my ND 2.0 between 6.5 and 8 l/100km (36/29 mpg), depending on my mood/driving style. Even when I gun it on the Autobahn, fuel consumption is still very decent. Peter Sothern in all but engine it's a Mazda. Every other part is Mazda made. the main difference between both cars is the Fiat uses the transmission from the last gen MX-5
Remember fiat has a fiat engine...
Forza Fiat
Mazda looks much better but Fiat has better engine......
I wouldn't touch the Fiat with a bargepole.
A while back I had a FIAT X-19 ... FIAT= Fix It Again, Tony.
Fiat is ugly. I prefer the look of the MX5
it's easy this time. Fiat is gay favourite, so Mazda is best.
first?
barozanul2 the good
Pointless video basically the same car. If Fiat made their own roadster and not copied mazda's then fair enough...
Most overrated car ever
made from 87% chinese parts, disposal junk with the lifespan of an inkjet printer
I'll take a BMW Z3 M roadster over them any day
Ugly cars. The Abart 124 Spider at least sounds exciting
when a girl asks you what do you drive? you can say either a miata in which case she would think you are gay or a fiat 124 spyder (she will be yours)
Gay here and I have a 124 spyder. What now?
RustyHeartsTOV you should really watch jason camisa on the fiat 124 syper review to understand my quote
I've Always hated the Mazda Mx-5 Hairdresser Edition. That fiat also looks like it belongs to a beautician. If your a male and you buy this fuck you and evaluate your current life choices.
For the same money you could get a Nissan 370Z, with a 3.7 Ltr engine and 344bhp. Sounds great, looks manly and you still have a 2 seater coupe.
Hurry up and make a new RX-7 & 8 Mazda.
