    I'm ruminating on whether I want to try and install a new water pump without removing the alternator since you mentioned in the water pump replacement video that you may need a c clamp and 27mm socket ( I have neither) to make it easier to reinstall the alternator. I have a new thermostat and water pump but not sure on how much hassle I want to go through for this. Probably should just do it thoroughly so I get a good flush and get it all done right.

    Hopefully someone could spare a little advice.
    Helping someone with a Toyota Townace 2001 I believe (1.8L corolla engine i think) radiator issue (was spurting out fluid the other day)
    I've just done a radiator flush, which was fine, no overheating while it ran for 30 minutes, perfect temp, also got a new cap in case it was a seal issue.
    I then drained and topped up with coolant and ran it for a while to get any air out without the cap off, at least I thought I did this correctly as I did see air bubbles etc.
    Then put the cap back on, run it again and it stays at normal temp for a while 7-8 minutes maybe, then just goes up and up. So I turn off the engine .
    Trying to figure out if it's just an air issue, as it was fine during the flush and running it for half hour. Or maybe it's thermostat or something else.
    .
    Any advice would help!

    Good tutorial .
    I found the Dealer part fit way better also.
    It was 50$ yet worth it
    It fits a hair loose , and the gasket is slightly thicker and tapered, more so than aftermarket.
    The one i took out was tight yet not a bought at the dealer by vin# part
    It idols better , i think the flow is better the plunger is way bigger on it

    • @NutzAboutBolts
      @NutzAboutBolts  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Justinas Savanevičius the thermostat jiggle pin is to bleed the air pocket in the engine block. Make sure its up or else there will be air pocket in the system.

    I replaced the coolant temp sensor because I got the code P0128 and it went away for about 2-3 weeks then got the same code again but with P0128 (pd) . Everything seemed fine didn't overheat ...so I assumed it was the thermostat so I changed that out.. put everything together and now the thermostat is not opening and it's overheating. The only thing I can think of is air in the system??..... Somebody pls help....

    • @NutzAboutBolts
      @NutzAboutBolts  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      do you still have the code? have you done a coolant pressure test to see if the system is leaking? did you put in the thermostat properly with the jiggle on top? found any leaks? if theres air in the system, it'll be an easy bleed, just watch the coolant drain and refill procedure and do it and it'll bleed all the air out.

    • @carloscervantes7214
      @carloscervantes7214 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      NutzAboutBolts It was just air in the system.. It was pretty difficult to burp the coolant system on a 2000 Toyota corolla. I couldn't locate the bleeder valve or it may not even have one..

    • @NutzAboutBolts
      @NutzAboutBolts  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you don't need a bleeder valve, just use the spill free funnel, run the engine until theres no more air and the radiator fan should kick on. If the radiator fan doesn't kick on, the system is still bleeding because there's still air in the system.

    • @carloscervantes7214
      @carloscervantes7214 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      NutzAboutBolts OK thank you.

  • @benjaminthomas9480
    @benjaminthomas9480 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I just did this, I think it would have been better not to drain the whole system. Just empty the line when you open the thermostat housing and you'll lose a much smaller amount of coolant. It'll be messier though

    • @NutzAboutBolts
      @NutzAboutBolts  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you remove the thermostat without draining the system, coolant will gush out of the thermostat and you’ll have a puddle of coolant on the bottom of the car. Just be prepared if you decide not to drain the coolant.

    I noticed you didn't use rtv silicone and the guy at my parts store said I needed it when I bought a new thermostat and gasket. What's the deal?

    • @NutzAboutBolts
      @NutzAboutBolts  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      you don't need RTV since you already using the gasket for the thermostat, if you add RTV, it'll cause a leak since the RTV will create a gasket around where you put it and it won't seal properly.

I'm not sure it's actually overheating. I know what that sounds like, and the engine isn't hot.
