    I love how zeltik takes into account the original japanese text and dialog in his theories. A lot of theories are based on the minutia of the exact wording and connotation of the english translation, but zeltik makes sure to double check that the meaning is still there in both versions before publicizing a theory.

    I always assumed the partner character in each game helped Link carry many items using magic.
    They must be stored in some kind of magic realm because items like Iron Boots or Ball and Chain only weigh you down when equipped.

    In Twilight Princess, I always believed that Link was able to carry all his equipment in his tiny item pouch because Midna transformed into shards of twilight like she does the Ordon Sword and Shield in that one cutscene.
    You could extend that to say that Wild Link is able to turn all of his gear into blue liquid energy, like that which he turns into when teleporting, by using the Sheikah Slate. Hestu's dances could be infused with magic that just enhances the Slate's capabilities. Hell, maybe the reason he needs Korok Seeds to do them is because the Sheikah only wanted Link to upgrade his inventory if his training as a hero required it, and he'd explored the land adequately enough to justify it.

    • @anonymousfellow8879
      @anonymousfellow8879 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think the “seeds” being literal turds is also an extremely obscure reference to the Pictograph Models guy not wanting anyone to witness the process “because he makes them *in his underwear* “ ...which....UM. Kid me always assumed those are made of Poo.

      @GameparkGames 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In all honesty Wind Waker Link doesn't really have that gene (none of them do really... Maybe except for the Link to the Past Link because he goes everywhere)... He likes relaxing and sleeping and wouldn't have had desire to travel if destiny didn't force him to engage, upon finding a new continent leading to Spirit tracks it could be assumed that he just led a quiet life in the village that version of Link started the game in because even that Link seems uninterested in adventure himself only getting excited because of Train.

Think of it how can Mario or Luigi throw fireballs underwater, or how can Mario and Co breathe on the moon in Paper Mario The Thousand-year door but not in Outer Space in Super Paper Mario? I'd like to expand on the theory about Link's inventory. At least for the older games, many of his items could have been on his person, just like the old art pieces of him suggest. But for, as far as I can see in Twilight Princess, it is magic that allows him to store all his items. At the start of the game, Midna wears the Ordon Sword and Shield, but then when she snaps her fingers, they dematerialize and warp inside of Link. It's my little theory that Midna uses some of her magic to store some of Link's more important items, so that way he doesn't have to look through his pockets and pouches.

    Enchanted pouch. Link probably has a special one, given to him by the koroks when he collected the master sword maybe, which acts like a bottomless bag of sorts. You can actually see the pouch on his model, attached to his belt. Most travellers probably don’t have them, being unable to enchant their pouches, which would be why pack animals and bags are needed still. Beadle also references the pouch, kinda confirming that it’s a fairly common accessory for travellers, maybe acting as a space to keep a few important supplies on hand without having to go into your backpack. Only definitely applies to BoTW, not sure about the other games

    • @emmaspencer4586
      @emmaspencer4586 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      For breath of the wild, I was thinking that it could be because of the sheikah slate, and that every time you obtain and store an item, it's "downloaded" into it. The Master Cycle Zero works this way, where when you put the sheikah slate on the pedestal, the master cycle dematerializes and is "downloaded" into the sheikah slate in the exact same way that the maps and runes are. If it's able to download an entire motorcycle, it can probably do the same for other items too.

      It could be an add-on feature to whatever app on the tablet allows Link to teleport.

    • @Agent-Ig
      @Agent-Ig 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Nice theory, but if you pay attention to the animation for him putting stuff away or getting it out, you can see him reaching down to the right and looking down in that direction. This is on the opposite side to the sheikha slate. Along with this, again in BoTW you can see the pouch sitting on his belt on the right side, which is what he reaches to.
      The motorbike is a special case of sorts, being specially made shieka tech. The bike is turned into blue energy and stored in the slate, then is rematieralised apon summoning. Link also gets his slate out when using any of the runes, and he dosnt touch it when putting items away, or getting them out.

    I have a theory about the Kokiri Forest.
    So, in the middle of the forest is a tower. During gameplay, one of the Unique kokiri (I think her name is Fado?) hangs out up there alongside a blue rupee. It's the highest manufactured point in the town (at least that can be reasonably reached), and from it you can easily see both entrances to Kokiri forest; both out into the Lost Woods and Hyrule Field. This implies that this structure is a watch tower. The way to reach this tower normally is to walk on the scaffolding to another, slightly shorter tower, and then over to Saria's house.
    Along with this fact, in the beginning of the game, Saria is aware that the woods are becoming more dangerous, and knows that the Kokiri sword exists somewhere in the woods (You can get this dialogue by going to talk to mido without any equipment, and then back to talk to Saria). All of this implies that Saria's function in Kokiri society is as some kind of Town Guard.

      That becomes a problem in games where Link doesn't have it. Especially Breath of the Wild. Even in the Wind Waker...Link's capacity is unchanged from beginning to end, but he only gets the triforce piece in the latter half.

      True. The games where Link doesn’t have a triforce piece (or the full thing) far outnumber the ones where he does. And he’s assembling the triforce of wisdom in the OG, then later gets the courage piece at the very, very end of Adventures of Link

    I always figured the inventory was stashed in the sheikah slate. It *looks* like app widgets on a phone. So why not. It just teleports the stuff somewhere, some warehouse of kinds. I think the sheikah slate pulls the bombs from somewhere (the particle effect of creating one looks like the teleportation one.) Rather then creating them from thin air.

    I have my own head canon for for Link can store all his items, at least in Breath of the Wild and Twilight Princess.
    For Breath of the Wild, I feel like the same technology deconstructing Link when he fast travels is also used when storing items. We see when Link obtains the Master Cycle Zero from monk Maz Koshia, that the technology is able to deconstruct physical objects and store them in the sheikah slate. Even if the cycle itself is just deconstructed and stored somewhere else, and the sheikah slate only gains the ability to summon it from it's storage, that still means that Link has a way of storing his items somewhere otger than his pockets.
    This would also explain why normal Hylians don't posses this ability. Not because it's related to the goddesses or Koroks, but because Link is the only Hylian in possession of such technology in the sheikah slate. As for Hestu, he would probably increase the amount of storage or memory of the slate, though how a magical forrest child could enhance ancient technology by doing the sacred hokey pokey is beyond me.
    As for Twilight Princess, I think this one is more likely than my Breath of the Wild head canon. We see Midna dematerialising the Ordon sword and shield Link obtains when he return to Ordon as a wolf. Midna probably does the same for the rest of Link's items as well. This might just be common knowledge though, as it also feels like the interaction with the Ordon sword and shield might have just been the game telling you where Link keeps all these items.

    Fun theories! Some extra thoughts:
    1) Maybe the Great Deku Tree wanted Link to kill Gohma to prevent the curse from spreading to the rest of Kokiri Forrest? Wouldn't surprise me if Ganondorf wanted to ruin the entire ecosystem.
    2) In BOTW, maybe the Sheikah slate is the thing summoning Link's countless amount of items? I assumed that's how it worked for the bombs and the Master Cycle.
    3) Funny, but I'm not sure if I'd ship it...
    Love your videos Zeltik!

    Earlier games also give us the Mad Batter and such that expand Link's inventory (adjusting things like carrying capacity for his bombs and arrows, but that's still his pockets). Also in regards to the Iron Boots specifically, it's entirely possible they're just as magical as the Hover Boots in that they aren't just heavy, but they pull Link down when he's wearing them in a way that isn't just gravity working as normal. Everything else is magic, so it makes sense that a pair of magic boots would also be magic.

    On tumblr I have seen a fan comic made about Wind Waker. In it, Link is kidnapped along with Aryl when the giant bird grabs her and their grandma, having not having the chance to give him his tunic or the shield, decides to take these things and venture out to save them herself, much to Tetra's dismay. It was only a short little comic which just showed little snippets of Grandmas journey, my favorite being her meeting the King and finding him hot, but with the theory about Lenzo, I really want to see Hero Grandma meet him and see what he thinks of her, especially in this alternate universe where she's an adventurer.

    Best isn’t actually the only person that acknowledges Link’s inventory existing. Aside from the obvious notes like all the various bomb bag and quiver upgrades in a whole lot of games that let you carry an even more absurd amount of select items, there’s the devil in Link’s Awakening that upgrades your magic powder, bombs, and arrows. You light a torch to wake him up from a nap and he, “curses” you with the ability to carry more junk.

  • @ruyman90

    I always had the theory that at the end of Ocarina of time when Zelda returns link to the past (no pun intended) creating the split timeline, she put two links on the same timeline. What I mean is that when link returned home from the temple of time he found his past self in his own house, and that link was fairyless and without having done any adventuring.
    Is my theory that this non-hero link grew up, abandoned the forest, became a rancher, and he eventually got married and had kids on his own. All while Hero-link went on more adventures, such as the events in Majora's Mask.
    I think this because of two reasons: Malon the girl from the ranch knows Epona's song that her mother composed and she was going to teach it to his kids later on and Link from Twilight princess knows this song from the very start of the game, so we know that Malon got together with someone very similar with to link in appearances. And also TP link has a dialogue with the Hero's shade who is canonically Link from OoT and he is called "son". It would made some sense to call him son because even if the Hero didn't had any descendants his non-hero counterpart did.
    I mean, in the split there were two different zeldas, one that grew and fought Ganon and one that was a child and gifted the ocarina of time. There were two different Ganondorfs, one that got the triforce and one that got imprisoned before that. Shouldn't there be two links? One became a hero and one who didn't.

    An idea that might be fun for a future mini theories video is the similarity of Akkala to the Greater Hyrule of Zelda 2, with the sea areas of Greater Hyrule corresponding the the lower areas of Akkala. Maze Island corresponding to the Akkala Labyrinth is the clearest parallel, and Eldin with the mountains marking the border of Zelda 2's map. Flood the valley running through the middle of Akkala, and you get something pretty close to the NES Greater Hyrule map.
