It's sickening how we devastate so much of nature.
It turns my stomach. The ONLY creature that benefits from the existence of humans... is other humans... everything else on this planet suffers from our existence... EVERYTHING!!
Very common in Rio de Janeiro. Many years ago they increased in number in a region (Magé) and started to eat the eggs of other birds, harming them. I don't live there anymore and I don't know the situation at the moment, but my sister occasionally sends me pictures of a couple who are always around in the trees on the street.

I wanted one as a pet before (they're very expensive), but then I realized I don't ever want to take care of another animal (in the sense of owning it), haha.
They are quite beautiful birds. Everything God created is beautiful and has a purpose for it's existence.

They’re WAY bigger and they actually hunt and eat parrots.
They also make terrible pets and should only be in the care of people who know what they're doing and can handle them. With any endangered species, having insurance colonies in captivity is very important but again, it needs to be done by people who know what they're doing.

There's something wrong with that numbers, the toco toucan alone may have much more than 10k individuals in the wild, they are plentiful and common here where I live in Brazil and I mean wild ones, since it's very rare to find someone with pet toucans here.

when I saw a plush Toucan on the top of my class smart board i thought it was a tiny bird on the top of a golden pot...
They don’t just eat small mammals and insects, they eat the fuck outta other birds as well. I grew up around them, in fact I’m literally staring at a toucan couple in front of me at this very moment and I can assure you that they eat parrots and other smaller birds. It’s a nasty thing to witness.
I had a few buggies when I was young. I realized that birds should never be kept in captivity!!! Of all the beautiful creatures on earth, birds need to be free to fly wherever they want!!!! Thats what God intended them to be....free!!!! They serve a very important purpose in our forests. Leave them there!!!

They are frugivorous, menaing they primarily eat fruits
So if you really love the Tucan why would you want one that would have been illegally imported to live in your tiny little house in a cage. If you love them don’t let them go, just never get them in the first place. Some people see something colourful and strange and want one, why? It’s a talking point. Just step away from the Tucan, it doesn’t belong to you, it belongs with its family.

Toucans also have super specific health concerns and diet. They easily develop iron storage disease and can't be given just any fruit or veggie..
It's very difficult in the U.S. to find a special pellet to feel them, at the smallest iron particles per million...
Toucans are so funny and adorable, but they are one of the birds I would not have on my list as a companion to get because I would be worried that I wouldn't be able to give one the best quality of life. They also develop diabetes.

we have several here, they are beautiful but they are not seeing with good eyes as here they are invasives. No predators, they just fly all day hunting other birds and eggs.... sometimes alone others with 2 or 3, but rarely mora than it.
