- rails to trails, The Staple Bend Tunnel, about 4 miles (6.4 km) east of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, in a town called Mineral Point, was constructed between 1831 and 1834 for the Allegheny Portage Railroad. Construction began on April 12, 1831.[4] This tunnel, at 901 feet (275 m) in length, was the first railway tunnel constructed in the United States. It is rock-bored and stone-lined.
Finished in June 1833, the Staple Bend Tunnel was advertised as the first railroad tunnel in the United States. It was the third tunnel of any kind built in the U.S.; the first two tunnels were for canals in Pennsylvania. Join this channel to get access to perks:

Hope you enjoyed the video. I was feeling a little better, so I took a trip to a tunnel. Please hit that like 👍
A pleasure, thank you. Watching imagining the sound of hammers and chisels slowly excavating and shaping stone. The small culvert was a work of art.
@paulhare662 Thank you, and thanks for watching. I appreciate it definitely a neat place
Such a classic and fantastic tunnel, wonderful construction
Definitely, I was there a few times before. It was a peaceful place. I was racing the rain this time, so I couldn't stick around too much
Yep, that was a cool hike revisit. It would be nice if Buddy & Queen walk along with you, maybe next time. Peaceful long journey but it's a worthwhile one! Great adventure....

@walkingcam1 yea, you got some cool spots, but too far for me, lol. I'm not one for driving 5 hours to video something most people won't watch anyway, hahaha 😅
@@thepawanderer same situation 🤣My area is max 3 hours from philly
@@thepawanderer what town do you live in? May be i can recommend you some places to visit which are too far from me
