@thepawanderer at the end of the trail where the mine shafts are, that bridge. You were facing across the river where it runs through Ferndale at the yellow bridge across from the other end of the trail you started from. Behind you a few hundred yards is the tunnel. I'd be careful if you go through the flower shop on the other side has been known to report people. @thepawanderer last I was on the trail the blocks they used to close it were falling apart. I don't remember when they sealed it but it was neat inside. Only went in a few hundred feet. Same before they locked the mine doors. The one on the side had a drop off right inside and the one you were at should still have the old mine carts about 100 feet in. Once we got past the carts it was water. It's overgrown but right before the end of the fence is a ramp down to the door.

Stayed at the RT 30 shelters this summer and had a great time in shelter #4 facing the woods, during a semi rainy day with the fireplace running and was sitting near the fireplace cooking. Low & behold a baby snake fell from the roofline gap and the fireplace onto the cement floor. Scared the crap out of me for a second, then I coached the snake (black snake) away from the shelter. later that evening I was getting firewood and saw the mama snake crawling down the side of the shelter from the outside roofline peak. She saw me and retreated back up into the outside roofline. Now I was freaked out and set up my Big Agnes tiger wall tent inside the shelter and had a great nights sleep with no interruptions. She was a 4 ft black snake or gopher snake and they are harmless I found out, but was still creepy to see and spend the night with.

I will go in and get some people with me to help, take everything out, renovate, clean, then restore it with new furniture. Just imagine how cute it would be ❤ especially in winter ❄️☃️

It's definitely a shame to see it like this, don't understand people who just let things go like this. I guess once a year they come back to pay respects to the place maybe parents who had it but why not fix it
