The Duchess of Cambridge has officially opened two new galleries charting the story of the Holocaust and the Second World War at the Imperial War Museum in London. During the visit Kate hugged Steven Frank and Yvonne Bernstein, who she photographed alongside their granddaughters for the Generations: Portraits Of Holocaust Survivors exhibition. I am female, 50+ years old.
In the summer of 1994, i was sharing lunch at an indoor food court with a female acquaintance.
A short, older gentleman walked by our table, the acquaintance stopped him for a chat.
After a few minutes, he crossed his arms at his waist.
After he saw my eyes widen at the tattoo on his outer left forearm, he angled his body towards me.
He let me touch it.
When i asked, “which camp?
He, “Auschwitz” (i think he was surprised that a “20something” knew what it was, but he said nothing (i had read “the diary of anne frank in my early-ish teens, and had seen the movie “Schindler’s List” the year before).
Me, “how many in your family were murdered?”
He, “75.”
He didn’t want to accept my deepest condolences, but the acquaintance knew me well enough to say, “she means it.”

I would like to visit a few of the Holocaust museums. It is very emotional. What makes it most emotional to me is I remember being taught this is school, even college. We had to read Elie Weisel's, 'Night'. We learned that before the Germans got to the Jews they went through the "others": black people, homosexual, "different". It was a process that the Jews took for granted. I learned not to sleep. To keep my eyes opened and pay attention. I also learned the Germans kept great records that's how we know the black people and others died before the Jews.

This be is a wonderful tribute to the holocaust victims. What was done to them was unforgivable…. Am I surprised that Duchess Catherine hugs those victims, not at all, she is a caring, sympathetic, kind, understanding and loving person and this is all so obvious from just what is going on in her own extended family, she was brought up by wonderful loving parents and it is very obvious, so no I am not surprised that she hugs those people I would hug the too the desert to be hugged
