  • This week’s episode is all about the new 14x9” Coiltek search coil for the Minelab Equinox. These coils are still almost impossible to find in stock anywhere, but I managed to get my hands on one! I was able to go metal detecting at a few sites with this coil, and in this video I’ll be voicing my honest first impressions along the way with more in-depth thoughts at the end. Enjoy!

    Nice review Steph. I do hunt hay fields, but I think the stock coil and ML 15 inch have me covered. So many variables at work though, so the key is just get out and hunt as much you can.

      For sure! To be honest, from the little bit I’ve used the ML 15 coil, I prefer that one. At least you’re definitely getting added depth given the 11” width versus 9” with the Coiltek. Overall though, I prefer the stock coil.

    Good review! Interesting about the depth. Loved the button, it's a beauty! That dang play money, lol! It's happened to me too. I found a little treasure by accident today. Took our stuff to the recycle center and laying on the ground was a old money clip stamped "925" . Looks like from the 30s or 40s. I bet someone was cleaning out an estate throwing stuff away and God knows what else was thrown out! Glad your okay, looking forward to next week! Whoo Hoo!

I don’t know it it was Sumac or Ivy that got me one time really bad in particular, but one of my arms swelled up to almost twice it’s size and the skin was tough and hot to the touch. Yuck! I usually get poison ivy - occupational hazard, lol! Feel better! Thanks for watching!

    Great to see you back! Even though I'm a Garrett girl I still appreciated your coil review. My go-to coil is the 5 x 8 but I recently purchased the Viper 6 x 11, mainly for more coverage on fields. I noticed the same things you said about the 14 x 9. Also, I'm with you on air testing! I've dug some things I would have never anticipated because the numbers were so off. Lots of good information, even for those of us who don't swing Minelab!

    HEY STEF !! Good Morning Young lady !! So, I was pleased that you explained "Wiggle" but what's "Air" testing?? I think it would be interesting to see how the coil reacts around power lines, electrified fences ETC.. Thank for making my day happier Stef, Your the bestest.

    • @StefDigs
      @StefDigs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! Air testing is when you lay the detector on its side and run various targets in front of the coil, pulling back until the signal disappears. A lot of TH-camrs tend to exaggerate how long they’re able to hear a signal for the sake of hyping up whatever equipment is in the video, and I’m against that. When you’ve got the coil horizontal and pointing at nothing but air, I don’t think it’s a good measure of what could be expected when a target is in the ground. Just my opinion which isn’t exactly popular, lol!

Just tried both as I'm re-hunting my spots and pulling out more goodies!!! Yes, finding a bit more depth to 1-4" but still in early stages... Never even thought of using it as a water coil, but then again I stay firmly planted on land, lol. Definitely don’t have a need for this one in my arsenal, although it performs as one might expect. 11” is still my favorite.

  • @gasmandl
    @gasmandl 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I run the coiltek 10x5 on my equinox 600 and the stock coil on my equinox 800. The 600 gets used more than the 800 because the coiltek just seems to be more sensitive to small targets. The 10x5 seems to sniff out small targets incredibly better. With that being said, I’m wondering if the 14x9 would get my 800 more playing time. $260 on Amazon? I’m thinking, go for it.

    • @StefDigs
      @StefDigs  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aw man, it’s too bad because I’d love to sell you one, lol! They are just so hard for us to get - most dealers only get a few at a time, which is the case with us. I plan to add a 10x5 to my arsenal this Spring! That seems to be the most popular coil, and I’ve been enjoying cornfields a lot over the last year or so, which will be perfect. 😊

    I dunno if anyone else has asked this question on this thread or not, didn’t scroll through all the comments. Sorry. Was jw though if you HAVE used the 15” coil from Minelab? If so, have you noticed a depth increase? I have been on the fence whether or not to purchase it based on this alone.

    • @StefDigs
      @StefDigs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be completely honest, I do feel that the Minelab 15” is deeper. This coil that I reviewed will add a greater coverage area, but I noticed no increase in the depth over the 11” stock coil. I own the 15” Minelab coil and while I do like it, I never really have a use for it as I often hunt old homesites that are totally littered with iron, and in those circumstances, the stock coil outshines all of the rest. For hay fields though, the 15” Minelab coil is where it’s at! I prefer it to the Coiltek 14x9. Hope this helps!

    • @StefDigs
      @StefDigs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The 14x9 is, in essence, meant to be more precise with pinpointing than the ML 15x12. I prefer the 15x12 but still find that the stock coil is most appropriate almost everywhere I dig. Hopefully I can review the 10x5 soon, THAT sounds like a winner!

    • @markholbrook3949
      @markholbrook3949 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@StefDigs I already own the mine lab 6 and 15 inch coils. I don’t understand why a company would market this coil when it’s so close to the manufactures coils. I’d always want a manufacturers coil over another after market coil who have different engineers etc. I don’t know? It just doesn’t make sense to me.. Now the 10 x5 does sound interesting! Who's making that?

    • @StefDigs
      @StefDigs  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@markholbrook3949 yeah, I will say I think the 14x9 was an odd choice. The 15” round from Coiltek looks like it should be a beast on depth, but I’ve never tried it nor do I have good sites for something that large. The 10x5 is also made by Coiltek - I’ve sold several of them (when we get them, anyway! Very tough to get more than a few in at a time). I think that’ll be a great compromise between the stock 11” and 6”! I do love my stock coil, though. 😊
