Welcome to the hobby! 10th edition is a lot simpler and easier to learn than the older editions, and I'm having a lot of fun playing it with new and returning players at my LGS. Remember: play the models you like and have fun, win or lose :)
Wahapedia is a great rules reference. The physical books are more like collectors items for stories and pictures. Buy models from 3rd party stores not official gw places because theyre almost always at a discount. Maybe dont even use the official models, sometimes they look cooler anyways. Start small, buy a box of basic foot soldiers for an army you like. Always try to save money for this game!
In my personal experience, i would watch tutorial games online instead of just directly reading from the rule book. Play a few practice games based on what you see and learn from videos and use the core book as reference for rules
Just picked this up for reading, played warhammer 40k about 25 years ago in high school. Will take it slow reading 10th edition and wait for the thousand sons new codex
I’m sorry you started right now, because the new combat patrol boxes so far have been pretty terrible for getting into the hobby. Also never buy the books, they’re out of date the second they’re printed, and Wahapedia has all the rules and datasheets

I'm very excited about this it's been a long time I've been excited about collecting something. Plus my wife and I are looking for the plan against each other. To see who has to do the chores around the house lol

just remember that book won’t be valid vary long, and what army you buy now will be nerfed in a few months, i suggest you look into one page rules.
