This is great, helps me know I made the right decision to start my 12yo son on the klx140L (he can flat foot it) about 3 months ago. Has been a great bike so far and he's not intimidated by it. I think if I had started with a kx65/85, he would have looped it/whiskey'd it and lost confidence. I think starting with this bike will make him a better rider in the long run.

First! Also I bought my wife a 2021 KLX230R to learn on. She is 5'4" approximately. Its a bit tall for her so I had to order her a lowering linkage. Would have bought her a 125 instead if they had any available, but the 230R was all they had.

If you haven't ridden before get a 4 stroke trail bike. Learn the fundamentals, have some fun and then move to a bigger/ faster bike from there. It's not going to be fun when you crash all the time.
I'm more into enduro and trails and so, my 5 year old thinks enduro and trails are what cool people do. He obviously doesnt realize I've never been cool. Hes on a crf50 and hes getting pretty good at riding mountain single track with me. Some of it's pretty gnarly for him. He obviously needs better chassis/suspension. What's the best option? The ktm50 is way too aggressive for trails and he needs to be able to shift for hills. What's the best option to move into? Hes at least 2-3 years from a ktm 65. Ideally thered vs a crf50 motor and transmission on a ktm 50sx chassis. Pit bike suspension mods on the crf50? There has to be a solution for the next gen of enduro riders.
Hi Adam, Have you looked into the CRF 70? It’s a little bit taller than the 50 and has gears so he wouldn’t struggle on trail rides. The Honda 70 would be a great transition bike for him.
Being 6,5 and 15 you might want to pick up a basketball instead 🏀 👍🏻 For a trail bike you should look at the KLX 230 or a TTR 230. The frames are bigger and it will be more comfortable for you to ride. Thanks for watching!

Get a YZ125X. Take it from somebody that’s been there. These trail bike are harder to ride because the suspension is crap and they are actually heavier too. Not to mention the power on bikes like these is very boring. You won’t be happy and you will end up losing money when you trade these trail bikes in after only a few short months. Sorry dude but you’re wrong about this. This is bad advice

The 230R is a great starter bike. Good thinking on the lowering kit, that will make it a lot more comfortable for her.
