Cool ship for its time. As a POTA fan, I was surprised to learn that the crash-landed ANSA spacecraft in BENEATH THE PLANET OF THE APES made use of the Jupiter II's tripod landing legs.
I like it, but I was wondering if you're familiar with the Gemini 12, from the unaired pilot. I would like to know how they made accommodations for 6 people instead of 2. The ONE thing about this exterior version that struck me, as it IS essentially the Gemini 12 in MOST of the televised shots in the series, is how attractively distinct it is from the Jupiter 2, which has to account for the lower deck.
A modern version of a Lost In Space series maybe taking place in the mod 2100's using the SAME ship/equipment (not re-imagined) using modernized CGI and props would be absolutely successful. And a less comedic/more sinister Dr. Smith maybe like he was in the first 5 or so episodes would be much better.
Hi. I guess this space ship version is the third part of the vehicle seen on that tv series. Imagine that in " Lost in space " tv series there was a kind of caterpillar mobile kept inside of it.
Nice... Notice how if you landed on the landing legs, the exit by the leg doesn't have an airlock... That main air lock on the upper level always bothered me with the Jupiter 2, do you always land hard enough to make the lower level a basement? I think that dome on the top was supposed to be a viewing area where you could sit and use sextants and telescopes to navigate. I love how the Sci Fi of the time loved having domed things in the center.
If you read Jack Hagerty and Jon Rogers' The Saucer Fleet you'll learn that the dome on top was meant to accommodate the top part of the astrogator while in flight. Carefully watch the first few episodes of the series and you'll briefly catch the astrogator in the "extended" position.
According to Innovation comics the Jupiter I was blown up by, of course, Zachary Smith who was unaware that his fiancee had been assigned to be on board. .
fmlazar Something that annoyed me watching this the first time around as a seven year old was that after the first episode they almost never referred to the "gravimetric drive " again. When John and Don swapped technobabble around the pilots' area they kept talking about "the rockets", even though the Jupiter 2 clearly didn't have any. I don't think that they gave their writers a bible in those days.
weapons rack sucks, where's the chariot vehicle ? Where do they store food and water ? This was such crap design for any ship, why oh why didn't they make it bigger ?
This is a ship for two, no need for more weapons, maybe a forcefield projector, this isn't the Jupiter Two (didn't anyone read the title?), so no chariot, no space pod, sustenance ( food and water) are likely in dispensers behind the table, where they're consumed, perfect (for a tv show) size for two and an excellent design
Someone should build a life size unit and rent it out as a B&B.

This version is more realistic than the two decker tv version. Just enough for 2 people
Where did the elevator go ?. It had ring railings that closed when it went up or down ? The lower deck retracts when in flight .
Great job on this, background "music" was kinda annoying, but the design is well thought out
They forgot the reactor room part. I mean, the J2 had one, it just makes sense that there should be one even if you have to stoop over to fit in it.

Netflix has a Lost In Space series coming. First season's already been filmed. Problem? Smith's female now.
