    Awesome video.
I was aware of this facility. I was fortunate to spend some time with the old analogue wideband data systems that worked from the Braamfontein transmission room to the Hartebeeshoek Earth Satellite station in the early 1980's. The telephony division and not Hartrao (aka DSS-51 aka SANSA)
I would often visit the station to upgrade, test, and repair the data systems (Saponet) before the up and downlinks.
Today most traffic is routed via optic fibre as the fibre has low latency, bigger bandwidths, and higher speeds than satellite technology albeit prior to 1988 the analogue coaxial undersea cable was not as superior as satellite. It was also the days before mobile and internet traffic. Back then the traffic was predominantly voice, data, and television/video

I saw a rocket launch from Alexander Bay in the NW Cape in 1987. Don't know where the rocket launched from, but it was in a very remote area. We watched that rocket go straight up, and up, and up, followed by a white smoke trail. Was crazy to know SA launched rockets in those days when nothing was ever made public.

Had the privilege to spend a day at the facility at Houwteq near Grabouw. ( 1988 - 1990 ? ) My contact was the person who worked as one of the team members on the propelsion system of the satelite. ( And their focus was to create a system that can change direction during the flight. Booster system? ) Had a visit to the satelite which was covered with a white satin like cloth in one of the buidings. Joined them for lunch. Needless to say that the satelite never made it to space because of political interference. . Many years later a friend informed me that the satelite was dumped as scrap on premises between Wellington and Hermon. ( We were looking for a spesific type of material / metal and that stuff was used to build the satelite. )

@David Rosenberg South Africa has built 4 satellites so far since 1994.
2020 the president in SA announced R4,5 billion in creating a space hub in SA and is to build 6 new satellites with 80% of the components originating in SA. And SA still has a space agency with an annual budget of R150 million. So that's a huge increase in investment.

A classic (pre 1994 Jim Carrey character) idiot compliments you on your work and discovery while being nostalgic about a racist country, yet oblivious on the ethnicity of your guides...🤔
Do some of these people think that SA would have had a budget to continue it's nuclear programme, put Shuttleworth in orbit at the republic's expense and maintain the racial status quo without financial sanctions?
Even Germany which has the most nazi mega structures has abandoned them and ensures it maintains a wide berth from aryan ideals. You would not hear individuals openly pledge how great it was to when they were developing leading technology during the holocaust.
And yes, French president thought African peasants only know the eternal renewal of time, then he must be confused when a French president rewards an African illegal immigrant with an honoury citizenship and a job for doing what ordinary civil servants perform on a daily basis.
On the other hand this considerate president is grappling with why the French your do not share his celestial ideals when they don't have jobs.
It's even embarrassing when is of the opinion that SA was about to launch until the ANC came about..., in 1912, I guess there wouldn't be aboArmstrong ke.
A little basic knowledge would inform you that a successful clandestine operation is the one conducted privately, without any accountability to continuously changing administrations, and that the top administrator (President) has a very low clearance level and would not be privi to most programmes.
But then, we'll have allow some people to get over their entitlement babalas in order to work together in finding ways to advance this country regardless...

If you think this is incredibly clean, you should see the old sections of Park Station in Jhb. While we were shooting Queen Sono for Netflix I saw them open a section of the station that is usually barricaded off, and wow 😭😍 is all I could say

The nuclear fuel extracted from those warheads is still kept at Pelindaba, if south Africa wanted to resume it nuclear programme it would eliminate the enrichment process to weapons grade and we'll go straight to infusion to warheads. I highly doubt that will ever happen though.

    Great video.
A true researcher informs and educates his/her viewers, well done Adam.
