  • We'd like you to meet our camp stove, Bertha. She's been with me for years and she's never let me down. She's cooked with me on many a ranch and hunting camps over the years.

Chicken fried steak with country gravy, cowboy beans, sizzlin' taters and cornbread, all cooked on Bertha. Just say when, where and how much, and I'll come a runnin"! I might be almost 68 years old, but this Greenville Texas boy will drive just about anywhere to have that kind of meal and have the honor of meeting you and your Bertha! A good day to you sir!

though I'm not a cowboy, I am an old hey seed , grew up on a small family farm. lots of daily chores, but always much love & good , homemade food. we grew our own vegetables, raised our own table meat, went fishing & hunting every year. I recall how at my parents table there was always enough food as well as room for friends & family. There was honest talk of honest , God given life and what it means to really be a human person. we had electricity & indoor plumbing, as well as an old wood burning stove my daddy made to custom fit our fireplace. Though it could be a hard life sometimes, I dearly miss the values I grew up with from that. Maybe that's why who you are & what you do means so much to me. Also before each meal we'd always wash dirty hands ,bow our heads and pray together. Thanks for helping me remember, much appreciated, & mucho gusto to y'all

This is my second time watching this video, and I forgot about the little cowboy at 7:27. He's probably a foot taller now and has finally grown into that hat. Seeing young ins raised up like this warms my heart more than words can express, and it's icing on an already great video about a stove I'd love to have parked in my backyard. Your videos are just as enjoyable and educational years later as they are the day they're released. Keep up the great work Kent.

Wow that is the coolest thing i have ever seen. I've never drove any cattle but when my great grandfather was still alive we would spend weeks on his farm counting cows and catching crawfish in the creeks of Ava, MS. Your videos make me miss those days and wish that i would have been a little younger so i could have spent much more time with him learning stuff and driving the old tractor and cooking with granny. i want to put one of these together so bad. I love to cook, there is nothing better than a good meal and seeing people smile while standing around the grill, or stove, or smoker. Maybe I could have something similar on my little patch of land someday.. thanks for warming my heart a little.

I betcha ole Bertha has tales to be told...I love a wood stove...my mom had one when she first married back In 1947....they lived in a small town , Raton NM...northern area near Colorado.any way...there house came with a wood stove but they used coal and she had a real Ice-Box that took 25 pounds of ice in the top...with a drip pan.my mom did not know how to light coal so when dad came home for supper, ( beans and hammocks), they were raw...mom could not get the fire started! She died 2 years ago and the world is without a beautiful kind woman who meant the world to me...I’m adopted and she gave me my life...I was and am a lucky man...thank you mom...I know she watching ur show bc she taught me to cook...I love it...purity good at something’s too. I love to bake and make pastries...thank you sir...I appreciate all ur hard work and techniques...bless you all! Watch ur back ....

      How'd your project come?
So far I'm making a mini, mini Bertha out of a 5 liter olive oil container. I got a hole cut out where the pouring spout thing was and I replaced the plastic handle with a few loops of wire. Now I just need to cut a hole for the smokestack that I'll probably make with some aluminum cans.

    If steel could talk.
Rollins, you are reminding a generation about what so many did to establish the communities of the American South and MidWest: Work, maintain, and raise family for the sake of creating the beef industry that would emerge out of cowboying. So many remember and the young ones wonder. You and your wife, and them dogs have helped to remind us of a time our forefathers had to go through. Thank you. I have to admit, I can't hold back the tears because my grandparents and father all lived and worked before WWI and WWII, without piped water or electricity, or cars or good roads. Good to see your progress.

I find something special about cooking outdoors... doesn't matter if its out on the deck or up in the Rocky Mountains... I know its easy to just do indoor cooking... but using charcoal, Hickory to throw some smoke into whatever you're cooking adds something special. This just puts something back into what most of us have lost over the years... and thats where people say food tastes so much better outdoors... you have a fun channel! Keep up the good work!

I’ve used it for years, it converts rust oxide to iron oxide, it will turn the steel black, my diamond plate welding trailer got a dose and didn’t rust for 5 years, Test it on some steel, it will change your life. Bertha will love it, Trust me on this one,

Kent, Thanks for the cowboy ways. I used to do a little of this on Dove hunts and hog hunts but now I just go to Buds Cafe in Knox City. Nothing tastes quite as good as cooking on a mesquite fire. I even cooked a cobbler and burned it. One of the guys spent and hour picking though the burned stuff just to get the little of the stuff that was edible. I didn't have one of your dandy horseshoe trivets and set the dutch oven directly on the coals. Not the thing to do. Well I'm now ordering your book and stuff so maybe if I decide to do it again, I will pass muster. Thanks for showing us the tricks of the trade and I hope to meet you one of the days.
Peace and God Bless and Keep you and Your's .

Hey Kent. I was wondering a few things. Do u haul that old wagon around sometime behind a team of horses or mules
How long does ol Bertha take to cool enough after you're done cooking so u can load her back up.
Do u cook freelance for various ranches
Do you ever cook for city folk that want to try for the cowboy drive experience
Thanx buddy. Great work. Gorgeous wife. You're a very lucky man to do what you love and are kind enough to share. I would absolutely love to be able to come out on one last ride but alas cancer is eating me up. God bless

I have pulled my wagon with steam several times on ranches, we still cook for the ranches in spring and fall when they are working cattle, She cools off in about an hour if you take the fire out of her and tip her up on her side.. God Bless my friend
