Thank you for this! I already go for parries with Draconic Sentinels and Lorettas, but I didn't know that quite so many of their moves are parriable like you've shown here. For me it's usually like this: "parry once, unload with charged R2s, fish forever for another parriable attack I recognize, die a lot due to imperfect dodging" :D
Yeah, it took me a while to figure out that basically every melee attack they had is parriable. Really helps for the phase 2 Draconics! Thanks for watching!
Thank you man, i thought you couldnt parry his attacks but i was just bad. Took me 5 minutes to learn his window until i Beat him. I could have beaten him without parrying but that wouldnt be any fun
Really should have watchee all the way through. I watched this all excited to try the tree sentinel in limgrave only to get dragged with only a handful of successful parries. Glad to know. I was about to drop my parry build all together even though I was progressively better at timing.
I (who didn't bother gitting gud and can't pary even with a guide) had little problem with most mounted bosses' melee attacks once I figured out standing next to the horse's right-side hind-leg, at about 4:30 o'clock, puts you in a blind spot for so many attacks. The only things that can hit you reliably in this position are shield slams and, especially, ponyslams (the horse makes a biology-defying side-step to crash into you). I hate pony slams, they don't deal much damage but they open you for a follow up and are pretty much unpredictable. Probably a behaviour targeted at this strategy. Anyway, once the weapon ruffles your hair, you can exploit the recovery animation to land a hit or two. But first make sure this attack that you just laughed at doesn't have a follow-up reverse swing. Don't try to stay there at all costs though. Any movement from the boss that isn't clearly telegraphing a weapon swing will probably hit you, and expect that some weird weapons may hit you anyway (I wasn't very comfortable against this dark knight with a flail). The Halberd Tree Sentinels also have a silly hitbox hole on their weapon's signature cavalry charge attack (halberd held horizontally, very low to the ground). When they get close, simply sidestep closer to them, as if trying to pet the pony during the run-by, and the halberd's shaft will pass through you harmlessly. This is particularly important for heavy shield builds as this attack is a Launch and will hit you through the shield, sending you flying and dealing insane damage.
Thank you so much for the tips dude, i beat the sentinel in farum azula. First time playing the game and never tried to parry anything before. I basically parried only 1 of his attacks, the overhead slam, and killed him with only charged followed up attacks, nothing else, took me around 10 or 11 charged hits to finish him. And I use a flask with lightning negation in the 2nd phase just more protection.
You just made the game SO much more fun for me!! I really didn't try parrying too much as I was waiting until I would see the weapon almost touch me, which was obviously WAY too late. You've helped so much, and that feeling when you stagger a strong enemy and hit them with a riposte/follow-up critical and hear the boom sound.. So satisfying. It's giving me that Bloodbourne feeling again lol. A huge thank you to you for these videos. ps. For parrying do you happen to know if there's any greater benefit from using either the light or medium shield to parry with? Or is it the same with either one? Thank you again.
Small shields with Parry have better parries than medium shields with Parry. Buckler has Buckler Parry, which is even better than small shield Parry. You can also parry with Parrying Dagger, curved swords and fists, but their frames are terrible, and more of a gimmick or to have the versatility of a parry tool+weapon, for instance when you have a cold weapon main hand and a fire weapon off hand that you can parry and also reset frostbite with. Then there are the AoW parries: Golden Parry, Carian Retaliation, Storm Wall, Thop's Barrier, which can only be applied to shields. Of those, Golden Parry and Carian Retaliation have the very best parries, regardless of whether they are on medium or small shields. Golden Parry always costs FP when used, Carian Retaliation only consumes FP when used to parry magical attacks. Summary: Slap Carian Retaliation on a 100% physical defense medium shield like the Heater Shield, and enjoy blocking as well as the best universal parry. The other parries have their uses and advantages in certain situations, but medium Carian is always useful in any situation where you want to parry.
I guess The Golden Helberd have a nerfed hit box parry range of the weapon even though you still take dmg when miss parry. Also some attacks just weirdly phasing through the character. It's like some enemies with big weapons like the Omen can be parried from a distance but some have to stand close to their face. I have some problem as yours but when using Golden Parry in NG+ , my parry rate got better. Well parried btw it's funny how some nightmarish bosses are a joke now with parry experience.
That might be the case. Quite possible that it’s distance related, but weird considering the halberd is the same size as the other weapons. It’s a really odd one! Haha, yeah I’m remember killing Margit for the first time taking over an hour of attempts. After I worked out you can parry him, he barely registers as a boss! Thanks for watching, Alice!
@@ThingfishyGaming Yup, when you found out which attacks can be parried, thing goes smoothly and I learn that from your videos so I won't get my ass handed to me as much to figure out the timing v: I'm out of idea to recommend which main bosses to parry now, dungeon mini bosses time ? Like Duelist, Cemetery Shade, Burial Tree Watch dog into 1 video ? Or road to become mob parry god?
Definitely! Loads more health and LOADS more damage. Think killing him probably took me the same amount of attempts as Maliketh in my first playthrough.
Nice! I have more success to parry the halberd sentinels when the character keeps some distance to the horse as if to parry the tip of the weapon instead of the hand. Loretta and the Draconics feel way easier to parry to me as well, so no, it's not just you ;)
@@ThingfishyGaming Also tree sentinel on lingrave for me it's way more easy to parry it with medium shields with the carian retaliation ash of war than the buckler don't know why but is more easy; Also thank you for ur awesome videos keep on
Haha, let me know how it goes! My first ever experience of Elden Ring was spending an hour killing that one in the network test. Will always look back fondly on that! Thanks for watching!
this makes stuff like pontiff and champion gundyr’s ds3 speedrun fights feel childish by comparison, the timing for those is look in the direction of the boss and you’re good, these one’s have soooo much more positioning involved that one missed move is a halberd in the face.
My guess is they are harder to parry since the devs don't want them to be beaten early by every scrub. When Gundyr wasn't optional and Fromsoft had to design him to be "beatable" by everyone.
5:59 Im confident in my parry timing but this halberd welding tree sentinel makes me question myself. Missed way more often compare to other parryable enemies.
I just can't! Im doing your parry everything build and I was going to say for funsies but its tough as fuck. Godskin took me hours but at least most of the time i was only a few hits away from killing him. This guy is horrible. Even when I'm successfully parrying his jump attacks there's always something that goes wrong once he starts his lightning shite. I'm not complaining, i just think that all the parry guides in the world aren't going to help me 😂 Love the channel. You keep up the excellent work and I'll keep up trying to kill this bastard! Sorry for all the swearing. Souls, innit.
Revisiting the parry guides and one thing I’ve learned in my work against these guys is Carian Retaliation is really good, especially against the breath attacks from the Draconics. Parry the ranged attacks too!
Yeah tried to parry for hours... I can't get the timing down at all....I do fine surviving until the lightning phase on draconian tree sentinel then its all over
I can't for the life of me get the timing down on this. I even went offline, loaded a modded character with 99 vig / 99 end with max poise just to get the most uninterrupted attempts per fight against the draconic I could and the only one I parry some of the time is the jumping attack. Been at it for an hour or so... Parrying feels nearly impossible in Elden Ring, I have no idea how people manage it with any regularity.
Dunno if you still need this but when he says to move towards the boss he really means it. As they start running towards you, start running into them at about a 2 o’clock angle. Hug the horse as much as you can then parry. I was like you but now I can do it consistently. Hope this helps someone.
Lets be honest, you inly really came here for Draconic, didnt you?
Swear
Nope i came here for the one by elleh
nah the starting one
3k runes dont mean shit late game i need it now

Carian retaliation on fireball projectile ftw
Damn these sentinels whooped me😢. But....

Beating the first tree sentinel outside of spawn is one of my favourite fights in the game so far. Felt so good turning the tables.

cannot get it to work with the jumping attack, no matter which timing or shield i use it doesnt work. did they change something in 1.07?
No change to it in 1.07. Still my preferred strat. Just takes a while to get the timing! Thanks for watching!

Rykards boss room. You can be there within 20min with speedrun strats.
This is impossible
