You have the only comparison I can find between the Baja and HOG. Thanks very much it clarifies things about ergos and blade thickness.

I like and bought the Baja & Hog because of this video!! I modified my Baja a lil, I rounded off the spine jimping with the work sharp sharp just enough too be useful but not bothersome. And I rotate sheathes,i use the canvas sheathed during deer season while, the Hog is in my dress out bag as my back up. Aaron, thank you again

I've had the bob since it first came out and used it a ton! After I got the Hog however the BOB got retired to my survival kit, (I figured the 2 extra fire making options and the robustness of the blade, made it a great survival kit knife). I've had the Baja since it came out now as well and agree with everything you said about it, but I use the HOG almost everyday, it's my main work EDC, though in custom kydex. It should also be noted that if you have one of the the tan canvas or black linen micarta handled BOBs, the HOG will fit in the BOB sheath like it was made for it. A BRW HOG would be awesome, cuz that handle is unbeatable!

My favorite TOPS knife, Scandi Woodsman. I've been using one for 6 months and it is a great knife, good for fine carving, skinning and prepping food. Plus I love the design it really fills out your hand even though it is a smaller knife. As for my 5+ inch I have a Winkler II Spike belt knife, which is just an awesome classic belt knife.

+Cr0cket20 more importantly - that's how a review should be done. Far too many people think a "review" is just showing the knife, and pointing out where the manufacturer's markings are. And giving the specs on a knife is good, but what really matters is the input that cuts through (pun intended) the fluff and tells you how the knife handles.

I love my HOG 4.5, the coating has been stripped and I've ditched the sheath for the BK17 nylon sheath temporarily. I will be looking for a leather or kydex option down the road. Great review and thank you for your contribution to the knife community. Cheers!

I have the B.O.B. and use it to baton small sticks for a twig stove. I stripped the coating and but a nice patina on it. It is a tough little knife which I trust to hold up. I wish it had a 90 degree spine as the the fire starting notch is not worth much. I enjoyed looking at the others. Thanks for a great informative review.

This video review does, indeed, point the viewer in the right direction. It gives good insight in to the pros and cons of each knife. All are beautiful, and all are up for grabs in terms of likeability. It boils down to preference. In terms of looks, it's the HOG 4.5 that grabs my attention. But the Baja 4.5 is a strong contender.

Great video, informative and well rounded. I agree with your order of preference. I had a B.O.B. and gave it away when I got a H.O.G. But eventually gave away the H.O.G. My choice was between the Baja 4.5 and the Kodiak Jac 2. The Kodiak won out because it just felt better to me.

would like to see a comparison amongst the TOPS Baja 4.5, the Becker BK-16, and maybe the ESEE Laser Strike - esp true spine measurements - my BK 16 is .150" @ the blade-spine base, much thinner than the spine -- .150" and .167" are quite different re: flexing under tension, i worry the Baja is also quite thin and flexible, but if it truly measures .160" or thicker i'd give it a chance

Man Aaron, the question of the day of course would be "Why can't you get all the good traits in one knife?". Can you maybe think of another brand that could meet this challenge? LT Wright and Bark River come to mind but I think they are leather, which I don't mind but of course Kydex is the way to go. Sometimes I think I should make the investment in Kydex sheath supplies. By the way I would have chosen the Hog as well ;) Mike

Great comparison. I am trying to decide between several but I think I have narrowed it down to the Baja or the Buck Punk. I believe you said you like it as well. The sheath must go and I will eventually get kydex for whatever I end up with. Between the punk and the Baja, What do you like better. I sell both TOPS and ESEE. Both have a "Cult" like following and they are, for the money, hard to beat. The "BOB" is just as popular with hunters as with Bushcraft Lover;s followed close by the ESEE 4 and 5. Both Maker's "MAP" price their product's so I sell at minimum to comply but I include a free sharpener and Fire steel to make them even more reasonable.

Hey Aaron - any chcnce you could take a closer look at LTWK? I have a couple of tops knives, and I like them (TBT and MSK), but when you see their prices hovering around $180-200 for a full size knife, and then you can get the LT Wright Genesis for $170 (I'm talking direct from the manufacturer), in A2 steel, best 90 degree spine in the buisness, and super comfortable handle... there's just no comparison. I'm currently rocking a next gen (scaled down genesis) as my edc knife, rotating with a coyote as my "fancy dress knife".
Also on the list of knives I'd suggest for you to get a closer look at would be something from the benchmade hunt series - I have an old bone collector in D2 and it's awesome, and the new versions come in s30v, around the 160 dollar mark.

This seems a contradiction. You gave the BOB a glowing review, said it was one of your favorite knives, and didn't mention either of the other two (in the BOB video). All the tea in China I'm thinking when Arron is doing his reviews he is literally speaking to those the knife is suited for more than his own taste, at least that's my thinking. He has always stated that bushcrafting is not his thing, he is more of the average Joe camper hiker kinda a guy who uses his knives for all purpose stuff. I'm guessing if he steps into the bushcrafters shoes that the BOB would be his pick for best knife, but up against the knives in this vid he would go with the HOG cause that's his style. BUT I could be completely wrong and Arron might be a secret double agent working for Tops directly ....bawahahahahaaaaaaa.😉

Have you heard of the Buck 245 Matt Would Go? It's a tactical reproduction of a knife made by a navy seal Matt Leathers who died during a training exercise. His father brought matts original knife to Buck to see if they would make and reproduce matts knife. It's a nice looking knife made out of 5160 steel and MSR for $245 dollars. And part of the money from each knife bought is given to an organization called Matt Would Go. It looks like an interesting knife and would love to see a review on it. Think you might be interested?

Too bad the Baja blade is 4mm too long to carry it legally where I am living (max 12cm / 4,72441 inches).
The bob is with 11,7cm pretty close to that, there's also the ESEE 4 with 10,6cm but from what I've heard the grind isn't as good but worse the handle is freaking tiny and I have relatively big hands. I do like their sheath and its options though. Still somewhat frustrated overall with my options, especially for those price ranges I think there could be something better.

Me personally i am hog 4.5 all the way!!!! Dont get me wrong they aee all great knives, i mean come on its a tops knife!!!! I had a custom kydex sheath for it and after the hog 4.5, my 2 go to knives are the hog 4.5 and the sky marshal tanto point. In a bugout or rural emergency those are the end all be all and id be completely comfortable with either or both

Say, Heah Aaron, Yeah you don't do alot of garbage videos, But when you do a video, your spot on. Great topics, Yeah, I started liking the curved belly when I started to use my Skookum Bush Tool but I thought it was a coincidence, Then I got the Potbelly, and for a big knife it sliced pretty goog, I can to a conclusion, Yeah, a Curved Belly does slice better, and works wood the best for me, Yeah, The Baja is the one I would pick too, Thanx Aaron for putting up some Fantastic videos, I'm serious, , ,

thats gotta be a pain in the ass tops if your watching this vid you need to make kydex or molded plastic standard and either give the option of a defferent leather or nylon for less or more money and make sure you know what purpose the knife is for if its a camp knife or bushcraft knife you want a comfy handle no jimping and if its a utilities fighting Tactical knife you want more grip and a different design

Hog 4.5 all the way. Once i felt it. Unless forced to i will only use my hog 4.5 before i would even think about giving any other knife the time of day!!!!

I'm surprised what you're saying about the tops Bob when you did the review on the tops Bob you said it was the best sub 6 inch knife you've ever seen
