Thank you so much. And welcome! There are new full-length episodes on the channel every Wednesday and a new Short every Saturday. Delighted to have you here with us!
I don’t comment enough but as per my previous post I find these videos so useful. Big help that you explain things really well. Ive learnt so much in a matter of weeks. I would be keen on a video or two on the Logic Samplers.
Thanks for this Groove Track update! Found it much easier to execute this way. Interesting that Audio updates without a glitch, makes me think will MIDI eventually become obsolete 😮👍
Hi Fred. Glad this was helpful. I’m not sure I agree with you about MIDI; hardware instruments and plug-ins are still a ready source of sonic fodder for the majority of electronically produced music. I see Audio manipulation as a useful ‘extra process’ rather than as a replacement. But you might be right - let’s see!
Groove makes sense for hi hat and drums - maybe even bass to have it groove with the kick. But I have trouble extending it to other tracks, like melodic tracks. Frankly, I just haven’t tried it enough by applying it to other parts of a song. Loops and samples already have an intended groove so I haven’t considered grooving audio tracks. For midi, it makes sense, for audio….i dunno. Lastly, some songs in funk and jazz have a tension created when the drums and bass have a dynamic groove, but the melodic parts are straight up. Have you seen Groove Builder Pack from Vocal Pockets?
I agree - the more rhythmic the part, the more likely it is to respond well to a 'master' Groove Track but, as always on this channel, it's worth considering more extreme uses of a technique because for someone, somewhere, it could be exactly what a track needs. For tightening performances, or 'unifying' the groove of audio and MIDI loops taken from assorted sound sources, the Groove Template and Groove Track options can be very powerful.
That was great as always. Possibly silly question. Could you reverse the process and have a vocal audio track follow a project on Logic? Also after some advice on a good AI vocal separator I’ve tried a few but majority seem out of time to the supposed BPM. Any help appreciated 😊
Absolutely, in theory, any track can be a Groove Track. But as vocal parts tend to feature lots of gaps and fewer transients, I’m not sure how effective a vocal track would be as a Groove Track. Logic’s own Stem Splitter is pretty effective at separating vocals from other parts in stereo files. I’ve made a video about it (you’ll need Logic 11), so have a go and let me know if it works for your needs.
Difficult to say how long I have been watching. Earliest watch history was 3 July. Let’s all meet up in the year 3000. Won’t it be strange when we’re all fully grown..?
Always enjoy your methodical videos , my go to for deeper learning of Logic. Question: is the Groove template and a Session Players "Follow Track" function doing the same or similar thing?
Thank you so much. Essentially, yes, it's the same principle, but with slightly less complicated processing. The similarity is that processing is allocated to detect and follow the 'rhythm' or 'groove' (usually the detected transients) and to allocate the same position (bars, beats, sub-divisions) to the data on any track which is following that detection. The Groove Track (and Groove Templates) can be assigned to audio files, which requires more processing (often at the cost of some audio fidelity), whereas that analysed data being applied to the Session Players effectively equates to a 'MIDI message move', which is less processor-intensive and comes at no cost to audio quality.
Yet another cracking lesson, thanks Jono. Thought I understood groove tracks fairly well, but still learnt a lot from this. Great work.
Thanks Ed. Glad it was of help!
Just been looking through your menu of videos 😮. This will keep me busy for a while ! This looks fantastic! You’re an excellent teacher.

I love watching your guides, even when I know how to do what you are teaching.
Thaks again Jono!
My pleasure! Thanks so much.

That’s very kind, thank you. Absolutely, I’m very happy to make more Sampler-based content. 🙏
Super as usual - thanks JB
You're very welcome.

Time will tell I guess Jono. Keep up the good work, people need to know how music should really sound.. 😂👍
Nice...........VERY.

Groovy, baby! Just kidding - excellent as always. Thank you 👍
Thanks Peter! Groove on!
Oh behave, shagadelic baby yeah!
Another great one. Thank you.
Thanks Andrew, as always. Hope all’s good with you.
Thanks Jono. Fan dabby dozy!!
Now there’s a phrase I’ve not heard in a loooong time! 😀
This is cool. I’m checking out episode 23. 👍
The Michael Jordan episode? You'll love it!
Thanks
Thank you so much for your generosity. It’s hugely appreciated.
@@jonobuchananmusicThank you for all the work you put into your videos. I couldn’t not give you some kind of donation. Worth every penny 👍🏻

wonky is a great word. If you can work "transmogrify" in a sentence then you really have something
You've planted a seed there, Michael. Actually, I think I might have used that word... if not, leave it with me!
This WAS useful. A bit more life to feed my modest efforts.
Thanks Michael. Glad it gave you some ideas to play with.

Ive used the groove track with some good success. Not a miracle worker but useful.
Absolutely - it's certainly capable of some very useful things.
