He was referring to the fact that WW2 was 1939-1945 and not in 1917, that would be WW1
some say the Crimean war was the real first one (zeroeth?) cause it didn't just happen in Crimea but basically all ports of Russian Empire werre attacked by English, French, Turkish and .... Sardinian forces. Including Arkhangelsk (Northern sea) and ... Petropavlovsk, Kamchatka yet we learn only about what happened in Crimea, and of that only that Russia lost, yet, no Russian territory was ceded to anyone so you can argue that it was a draw or even Russia won.

Update: Campione formally became part of the EU customs territory on 1 January 2020 and a border crossing was established.
Moreover, the casino (the biggest in Europe, by far) was declared bankrupt on 27 July 2018 and is currently closed. Most jobs were lost and the question is still before Italian tribunals. Campione is today almost a ghost town.

You know that the Swiss are the Helvetii right, in Greece we still call them like that and Switzerland we call it Helvetia.
Mitsvan Mitsvanio swiss and helvetians are not the same. The helvetians were a celtic tribe that lived in the area of modern day switzerland. Now swiss are obviously not celtic and therefore they cannot be the same.

Ahh, but they are, almost all of Overseas France is in fact in the EU and are considered integral parts of the French Republic, geographically they may not be in Europe, but they are in the EU.

I used to live in Lugano. You're playing fast & loose here when describing Campione d'Italia. It's definitely no "Mini-Monaco". Yes, it has a casino and it's an enclave of Italy on the shores of Lake Lugano, but it's boring as hell and the only reason to go there is to get late night pizza when everything else is closed in Switzerland. It's mainly just a lot of residences. You showed the wrong type of license plate they use (Yes, it's Swiss, but it would be the Ticino plate!), and none of your other stock Swiss photos were from Ticino either, since none of them were in Italian. Campione does look Italian, as it has Italian flags, police and signage, but all of that area looks pretty much the same on both sides of the border (except the Swiss side is cleaner and better made). Seriously, Campione is not a glamorous place full of beautiful people, like Monaco. It's hardly worth the trip across the lake to visit.

As of 2020, Campione is a full member of the EU, assesses VAT (though at the Swiss national rate) and a border crossing has been established. This all happened against its residents’ wishes.
The casino closed in 2018. Postal services are now solely via Italy and cars have to be registered in Italy as well.

You forgot to mention that until the mid 20th century, "Campione D'Italia" was known simply as "Campione" but Mussollini wanted to make sure people knew it was part of Italy because he was a facist nationalist nutjob, so he added the "D'Italia" to the town's name.

I went to Campione D'Italia 2 days after the casino shut down. It was still a nice place and the restaurants by the water had great food.

We weren't rich when we lived there. Father was a self employed engineer. One April fool's they announced on the local radio that Switzerland was annexing Champione. Another thing is there are no borders, so a WWII anti-fascist was lured there from Switzerland by a spy,-lover on a "picnic" and he was captured and hung. Also the Melide bridge nearby is the only place in Switzerland where a bomb was dropped in WwIi. Mostly I miss fishing perch on the lake as a boy...

I've always wondered how it worked in WW2 when neutral Switzerland had little pieces of non-neutral Italy and Germany inside it.
nobody really bothered to do anything about it because the Nazis were too busy storing away stolen treasure and all of Switzerland's roads and infrastructure was basically rigged to explode anyway making pressing the issue more trouble than it was worth
The pieces were two small and irrelevant. Also, all Swiss carried weapons at home and they were trained to use them, it's a country divided by unaccessible valleys, half of the territory is snowy, and they are very fond of their independence. Switzerland was like Afghanistan without the polygamist, the Sharia law and poverty all over the country.

Honestly, you are right in the whole video being an ad. The whole thing is a very well built ad that concludes with a lesson relating to the advertised product. It's a great way of doing it all.

I was just seeing Google maps a few days back and I noticed this place. A part of Italy surrounded by Switzerland. I didn't know it was that special!
The casino has reopened this year after four years of closure, and it indeed caused a lot of financial crisis, as the casino originally guaranteed for the municipal council economically talking. The town became part of the EU in 2020, plate numbers on cars had to be converted from Swiss to Italian ones, the Euro is also accepted and it can be accessed with the Italian landlines of the province of Como if you have an Italian phone number
My grandparents live there and they gotta pay double taxes and they have to rent cars because of the plate thing. They moved there like in the 60s I believe because if you owned a business there you didn’t pay taxes.

This video is great! I have never been to Campione but on the other side of the lake on a hill for a lot of time (Carona). When I was little the only thing weired about Campione that I realized that the randomly set of fireworks in the evening... I was in that area for holiday and live more in the north of switzerland. Actually the fourth place (g) out of VAT is the Water Part of Campione, plus at least to more parts of the same lake.

The taxation in Campione is reduced (as in Livigno, another italian enclave).
The historical part skip over some passages (but it's ok for a 5 minutes video) : Campione was never under the Pope: was a feud of the HRE, then conquered by Napoleon, then under the Austrian Empire in the Lombardo - Veneto reign, till the second italian independence war and the annexation to Piedmont, and then Italy
Also: gambling is not illegal in Italy. Is regulated, but you have slot machines in almost every bar. There are Casinos at Saint Vincent, Sanremo, and Venice, and you can also gamble online.
