Some corrections. Baskin Robbins no longer exists on the base and there are two high school football teams there. They just play against each other every game.

Yeah they used to be everywhere. They were actually the first American fast food joint to sign a contract with AAFES back in the 70s (Burger King was #2) so that they could operate on military bases but once Dunkin Brands bought them they pulled out. God I miss Pink Bubble Gum flavor. Guess they don’t make it anymore. Can never find it anywhere.

Alexander Evans I’m surprised they don’t have a Popeyes since they operate the chicken restaurants on all the other military bases world wide on an AAFES contract.

Went to WT Sampson from 2010-2011 for 10th and 11th grade.
Surprised that most of the info in this video is correct, aside from track and field being the rec center, and there wasn't a BR when I got there.
A couple of cool tidbits, there's actually a decent size paintball field, a free outdoor movie theater that airs 2 movies a night, and a large population of Fillipino and Jamacan international workers that do most of the contract work.
Living there was really interesting, they really try to make it little America.

What was the climate like in high school if you don’t mind me asking? I just feel like there could’ve been a lot of social pressure, clicks, judging the “weird kid” since it seems like a small enough area. Or did it lack the typical drama an American high school has?

I hope you were joking because if not
Even if this was not "real communisim" then that makes it even more if a failure
When your beloved ideology cannot even be set up properly or be implemented on its first steps without ALWAYS fucking up then like I said it makes it more of failure than your "fake communisim" which lead to misery of millions
You would be advocating for something that has a very high chance if fucking things up
      So progressive

    • @Bird_Dog00
      @Bird_Dog00 6 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      ale Solis
What makes you think I'm advocating comunism?
It has proven to be pretty much unworkable. So advocating it would be kinda dumb, right?
My comment was a dig at the lack of nuance often seen among us-americans when it comes to comunism.
It's just "everything that smells even the faintest of comunism/socialism to me is bad, bad, bad and must be condemed to the deepest circle of hell!"
Some ideas the comunists have are actually quite sane and apealing. Like that wealth should not be concentrated in a small oligarchy, but instead shared fairly by everyone who is contributing to it.
A market economy is probably more effective in the majority of situations than a command economy. But I very much reject the laissez-faire approach of unrestricted, predatory free market.
Because it will only benefit the rich, and concentrate even more wealth in their pockets.

I went there! For elementary school in 2005. I only lived on the base for about 6 months so I remember very little of the school itself but it was definitely a standard American elementary school experience. My fondest memory was that the jungle gym at the playground was the most elaborate I've ever seen (but perhaps that's only from the perspective of a then 6 year old)

I went to school on base at Ft. Meade, MD. Back then, I met up with a LOT of military brats who either grew up in Ramstein or were even born there. We'd always ask if they spoke German, they were like, "what? No, of course not!" What was it like in Germany? "Just like it is here!". But then we'd get German Foreign Exchange Students, and they'd be like, "so, what's the good club to go to here?" "uhhhh, America doesn't really do Under-18 clubs." "Wait, WHAT? WHY?"

My former AP US History teacher used to work at that high school. He had some interesting stories to tell; one that sticks out is the one about the one clothing store they had. Sometimes they'd get a shipment with a new style of polo or something, and since it was the first new piece of clothing available for months, he'd of course buy it and wear it the next day. However, like half the boys in that class would be wearing that same shirt too.

Any particular school in the US is extremely unlikely to have a shooting. You may think otherwise because every school shooting that does occur gets media attention. That media attention is what motivates people who are otherwise just depressed and suicidal to shoot up schools or other places where self defense is highly restricted.

He acts as though Spain might not have come back and attempted to re-establish control over Cuba. An independent Cuba at the beginning of the twentieth century would have been easy pickings for the Spanish. Were we supposed to defend Cuban sovereignty from American shores? That would have gone over well.

You probably wouldn't make this mistake now but Guantanamo Bay isn't a US "territory" which has a specific legal meaning (Puerto Rico and Guam are territories); one of the reasons the W Bush administration chose it as a site for the infamous prison was that being under US control but the technical sovereignty of a hostile nation, Constitutional protections afforded to anyone who steps onto US soil didn't apply and neither did the possibility of offending an ally.

Otto Von SocialistUK, the Cuban flag does NOT represent communism. It was created WAY before communism even made it to the Americas. It was created in NYC by Cuban exiles during the Spanish American War. It represents the fight for independence and a free Cuba from imperialist Spain. Not communism. The red represents the bloodshed of those who fought for independence. And our last sign of hope nowadays for a return to a democratic Cuba.

Why don't they have several sports houses with their own teams for various sports and kids are randomly assigned to a house when they enroll. This way there can be competitive sports teams. This system worked pretty well at the schools I went to, even though they also had school teams for the competitive sports made up of the best players in all the house teams. (this also allowed the house vs house season to serve as extended tryouts for the school team)
