    • @chatboss000
      @chatboss000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Think of it this way - if they can't benefit from free ports, they won't GO to those ports. For example, maybe a ship makes a double stop - half its goods are stored on a freeport to be sent to elsewhere on another ship, and half its goods are sold in the country, tax and all. If you remove the incentive to freeport, they won't GO to that port.

Even though the treaty is now abandoned and CS has split into CZ and SK, it is now an agreement between CZ and Hamburg Port whereby goods will not be interfered with while being transferred between river ships and ocean ships.

    And this doesn't even get into foreign trade zones. Foreign trade zones, are like free ports, in that incoming items are not taxed, outgoing items however are taxed as imports. Car manufacturers use these special regions to avoid paying import fees on parts, and then just import the whole car at a lesser amount.

  • @vaylon1701
    @vaylon1701 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Most all international companies have a similar setup as this. Toyota, Chevy and Ford all have exclusion zones. Areas of the factories grounds that are the territory of the country the cars are being shipped too. That way the cars are never considered as having been made in a country (for tax purposes) that actually built them.

    In my opinion, the most interesting use of one of these is near Zhengzhou Airport in China. You see, Chinese law makes it easy for foreign companies to manufacture in China then export or to import products into China, but fairly difficult to manufacture then sell in China. This was a problem for Apple, since they manufacture primarily in China and China is their largest market. Their initial solution was to assemble iPhones in Shenzhen then ship them across the bay to Hong Kong, then back into China. Then, Apple and Foxconn built a factory by Zhengzhou Airport inside a "bonded zone", basically a free port where they now assemble iPhones for the Chinese market.

    I’ll tell you what’s so special about freeports. Somewhere within, there’s a pentagon structure with what appear to be a device consisting of two chambers separated by a glass window. That device is a turnstile and will invert your entropy allowing you to move backwards through the flow of time.

    You should do a whole episode on CERN, there's a lot of stuff going on in terms on jurisdiction. It's almost like a mini-country in itself, with its own fire brigade, hotel, border control, etc
