What drill bit did you purchase?

Can the wire be changed when it breaks, or do you have to buy the whole knob/wire assembly?

You can buy wires, or make them out of guitar string. I am thinking about trying to make a serrated blade from a hacksaw blade for funzies. Walmart sells cheese slicer wire according to the app, but it is 24” long… not sure if that requires a tool for crimping pieces, or if it’s just twisted at the end.

@@liquidrockaquatics3900 It looks like it would be a hassle getting them to the exact length and twisting them to where they wouldn't slip or break. The reason I asked is because the handle has a pin going through it that goes through the wire loop, and the pin seems to be permanently pressed in.

@@donf3739 I have bought several kits for the ones I intend using for gifts this year, but I haven’t seen any exact fit wires, but I have not really searched. I know my grandma had my uncle rewire both her egg slicer and her cheese slicer with guitar wire, and that worked for the next 15 years or so.. whomever has them now probably hasn’t changed the wires. The guitar wire is really stiff as I remember and only needed a couple wraps back on itself to lock in and tension up.

you mentioned you sell the kits. How much do you charge etc. Nice project and hopefully they hold up as wire will break in time. thank you

I don't personally sell the kits, you can find them at Woodcraft for around $15 and replacement wires for $8-10 in packs of 4. So far I have only replaced it once and it was my fault for trying to go too fast.

How much can those sell for?
    They look really nice!

Thanks! It really depends, on Etsy people are currently selling them for $30-$70. The hardware kit from Woodcraft is $12 bucks and I probably have that much or more in wood for each of them. So unless your selling them at $70+ and in quantity it's not worth your time for income. But they make awesome gifts!

The width depends on the kit you buy so the handle will fit properly. I used the large kits from Woodcraft and they came out to be 5.5" x 11.5"
