AUNT RUBY'S GERMAN GREEN my top am currently growing Japanese Black Trifele looking forward, 1st time! Got to admit the boys were hilarious
Thank you for the suggestion!! Black Trifle is great! I think you’ll like it.
My boys are so much fun. I’m glad they agreed to join me!
Aunt Ruby's German Green Giant immediately made it into my top 3 when I grew it the first year.
Great video
Glad you liked! Any varieties interest you?
I love tomatoes and these reviews really help me decide what I want to dedicate space to. ❤ 🍅
I’m very glad to hear that! Are there any from this video you’re thinking of trying next year?
Lol your son it too cute. Came into the tomato testing asking for beets! 😂
🤣 right! I’m just glad he likes beets and peppers!
Great video! 😊 ❤ 🍅
Thanks! Which tomato did you like seeing the most?
I was interested that you like Black Sea Man, I haven’t tried that one, so I will give it a go! I agree with you that Barry’s Crazy Cherry is great, I’ve grown that for a few years and always love it 😋 I’m in the UK and it is grey, wet and cold right now, it’s lovely to see your beautiful garden and happy family and look forward to summer!! ❤🌱🌻
I’ve got Black Sea Man and Indigo’s on my seed buying list because of you! We tried Spoon tomatoes this year, and ours were packed with flavor-but we probably won’t grow them again, just because they’re so small. It’s funny to hear that you grew up not liking tomatoes-same with me! You’re so right-until you taste home grown, interesting varieties you haven’t experienced tomatoes. Love these videos! Thanks for sharing your insights and giving inspiration for next year’s garden.
I’m excited to hear what you think of Black Sea Man and Indigo! I think you will enjoy them a lot. If more tried a homemade tomato the world would be a happier place lol 😄
Your kids are cute! At first, I was wondering if they were your little brothers. Lol. Thanks for the reviews. ❤
Oh you are too sweet! They are indeed mine 🤗
Thanks for bringing a young man they are more likely to not have bias opinions.
I knew my sons would give their most honest opinions!
I would say our favorite sweet tomato is Kellogg’s Breakfast-really great on a sandwich. And it’s hard to beat Cherokee Purple on the savory side-it’s the standard by which we measure all the dark varieties. Every year we try ten or so varieties, and we usually find one or two to add to the “must grow every year” list…
Those are both excellent! Kellogg’s breakfast is so sweet and actually very good as a breakfast tomato. My must grow list keeps getting longer and I tell myself I have to grow less the next year but then don’t because I want to have all the flavors. Haha 😅
Been waiting on your 2024 line up!!!
Two excellent heirloom varieties which may grow, well in your region are "purple calabash," which is possibly the ugliest, but one of the best-tasting vaieties i know. Another awesome variety is called "West Virginia Hillbilly," and is very productive in Zone 6, and somewhat resistant to some fungi.
Black Krim and Brandywine are awesome, too. The, Brandywines have a great internal texture, and are great either raw or preserved, with far fewr seeds than most larger varieties
Absolutely... Brandywine has the most perfect texture. I can never get enough of it!
Another NEO gardener here. It’s inspirational to see you pull that many fine fruits from this region. My personal favorite is Paul Robeson. I like the Cherokee Purple as well but the yields just aren’t there for me. I’m definitely making room now for the Black Trifle.
We have a lot of opportunity in our region to try all kinds of things! I think it's fun to see what is possible. Thanks for sharing your favorites!!
I must try the Black Sea Man. I used to hate tomatoes as a kid but love growing them now that I started gardening.
I think you will really enjoy them! Isn’t that funny how growing them yourself makes all the difference? That was exactly my situation too.
You should definitely try Tim’s Taste of Paradise from Wild Boar Farms. I was so surprised by it, it is sweet and has such a deep flavor and complex flavor. For a small cherry size to have that much flavor it was amazing. It would be stunning on a pizza. Highly recommend. One of his newer release so not much reviews yet
Oh thank you for the recommendation! That does sound lovely. I’ve been happy with the wild boar farms varieties!
Reminds me of my two year old back in 2022 now he is four love tomato tasting he said it’s good but he wouldn’t eating all of it just eat a little piece 😂 of it maybe he don’t want to disappoint mama at all
Wait till he’s a pre-teen.. boys want everything then!! 😄 It’s good you’re offering him tomatoes at a young age!!
AWESOME review, thanks for sharing😊
You are so welcome and I’m so glad you liked it!! If you could share it I’d appreciate that so much! I’m hoping to help people find new varieties as they begin to shop for seeds. ☺️
Are there any new ones you heard of?
💚💚💚What a variety of colors. Very beautiful tomatoes. Crickets make such a nice sound. Thanks for the video.💚💚💚
So glad you enjoyed it! I am missing the sounds of summer now. Were there any new tomatoes you heard of?
@@bloomandwiltgardens oh yes, I discover new tomatoes every year. And I, too, look forward to summer, just like you.
First thing I have to say is this was a great mom and sons interaction. My wife and I live in Ohio and we are going to grow just under 20 varieties. Just for fun and to be honest I’m not a big tomato person but they are growing on me. At least early I the season when they first come on.
Thank you! It always fun when the boys want to participate.
You may find a variety you just love that surprises you! With so many flavors out there I think most can find one they like.
What has been the type you’ve grown to like the most?
Thorburns Terracotta were my first to produce but I'm not sold on the taste. Black Sea Man are favourite and I remember really liking Black Krim so I will return that to the mix in 2024.
Good choices to grow again! Are you planning on trying anything new?
Dang, Anthony is sassy.😂
I really enjoyed this taste test, so thank you!
He always has a quick comeback! Gets it from his dad lol. So glad you liked it! Any varieties you thinking of trying?
Wonderful video. So interesting. I wish I had a spot to grow.
Thank you James! Glad you enjoyed it. Would you be able to put a container out front to grow one plant in?
@@bloomandwiltgardens not really, I never go out much in the winter or summer because so much cold or heat. No shade. Guess I’ll just watch the beautiful things you grow. Hope your sons come around and appreciate what you’re doing.
I have really enjoyed all of your tomato review videos! With so much tomato growing under your belt I’m curious to know if you could only grow 4 or 5 varieties which would they be?
This is a great question and a little hard to answer because I like so many. But as of now I’d say these were my most favorite:
Black Sea Man
Cherokee Purple
Trip L Crop
Sungold Select
Rosella Cherry
Thanks a bunch! I’m definitely growing Black Sea Man this coming season. And I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled for the others. I’ll be sending you some seeds (from just another random person on TikTok) tomorrow. I’ve had them in my car all week just haven’t had the time to make it over to the post office. 💚
I love growing tomatoes but never liked them raw. I have slowly gotten myself to eat them thinly sliced on a sandwich or chopped in a salad but that’s it so far. I want to eat them but the taste I can’t get over. And l am over sixty! LOL
Progress is progress at any age! Do you grow any unique varieties of tomatoes? Is there anything you saw that you’re thinking about trying?
I grow a variety of heirlooms like pink brandywine, Cherokee purple, mortgage lifter, Arkansas traveler among others. I also grow some hybrids such as big beef, beef master and sungold. I am going to try isis candy. I also grow San marzano and Cippolo’s pride for processing and want to add the Jersey Devil. I like the Brandywine the most but can’t eat them like you, LOL!
That’s a great list! Please let me know how they all do!!
Will do!
Know last year our favorite Midnight Snack wasn't yours, but it is true that impress is how we also judge by.
If we have only one tomato it will be Black Krim
Not far tasting canning versus snacking tomatoes and slicers not on. Hamburger or Steak burgers 😅 it's to many tomatoes to be judged in our favorite dishes.
Try Terracotta in Mexico type dishes
I’m thinking I need to try midnight snack again!
Hello from Columbus ohio
Because they don't always are on their pick of ripeness it's difficult to judge.
Black Brandywine is my favorite on a beef steak or beef burger. But I'm like you Black tomatoes are our favorite but for that Black Beauty was disappointing for us really on the bottom choice.
Hi John!! Always glad to see you here
