I LOVE this more than I can even express! My husband is black. We backpack a lot. We have, honest to God, never run into another black human on the trail. We always joke about it, but in reality, it would be really nice to see more diversity! AND you are a woman. HELL YES! Beautiful video. Thank you for shareing!

Can't believe I'm just now finding your page, but I am so glad I did! As a black female, I rarely, if ever, see many hikers that look like me. My family is big into camping, but I'm hoping to break off and test out hiking for some much needed mama time away. Loved watching y'alls journey ❤️

I'm happy to see other people of color documenting their outdoor activities. I'm starting to see more people like me on trails, but there's still very much a "that's white folk stuff" mindset among my friends and family when I talk about hiking and camping. I laughed aloud at 5:50, I know that feeling so well.

Honestly, I'm one of those Black people who say hi to other Black people when we are the only ones in sight. In honesty, I live abroad and say hi to other Americans when I see them. I love those things we share that connect us to each other.

I'm kind of a PCT/JMT video addict. I watch a ton of them. I can't believe I hadn't run into yours until now. I must say, I was immediately drawn in by your beautiful soothing speaking voice. Almost wish you would have broken out in song just to see if that voice carried over to singing 😄.
It was a beautiful well done well edited video. Thanks so much for sharing your journey!

So glad to see you strong young Black women out on the trail. Tell your friends and tell them to come and add a necessary splash of true color to the too-often all-white back country. I smiled when you encountered the Black woman doing the PCT. You were all so excited. While I'm an old White guy and so can't say I really know what that's like, I can imagine. Keep going. Camp Spam! I'm doing that next hike.

This is amazing! I’m a black male from SoCal and spend a good amount of time in the Sierras. I’ve never seen another black hiker in the Sierras other than at car camp sites in the Yosemite valley. I pray that one day we won’t be so uncommon in the outdoors.

Okay, thank you for taking the time to put together this video, I absolutely loved it! I (solo lady) hiked from happy isles to VVR in 2022 over 9 days and had to get exit somewhat unexpectedly. I’m thinking hard about completing it next summer, starting at duck lake trailhead and finally finishing at Whitney.
The first half of your video, the soreness and rain (mostly the rain) made me question “wait, DO I want to finish it??” But by the second half I was whooping out loud in my apartment saying hell yeah, you go girls!!! Just so excited for you. You ladies are inspiring! And I definitely want to complete it next summer.
Also I’m happy you and that woman and her dad crossed paths on the trail ❤️ I love to see that pure joy radiating. I may not experience it myself as a white lady, but I could see the joy, which is both heartwarming and a somewhat heartbreaking reality. Everyone should feel encouraged and welcome in outside; mother nature does not discriminate! Keep up the inspiring work!!

Mybwife and I have done it twice. We said this was the last time as we did it south bound first and then north bound (we both agree northboud was way better). Here I am again watching videos and thinkn about going back for a 3 rd time….glad you made it the whole way. The sense of accomplishment you feel when you are done is so great its hard to put it into words. The people you meet are awesome, everyone is there for the same reason in the end, to experience something that many do not. Theres no parking lot or paved paths for easy access to these views. If you want to see them in person you must put in the work, at least you can say that you seen them in person and not just on a video like many more than us do. Congrats! And maybe sometime my wife and I will see you on the trail!

Love this video! Great photography for one. Also, most JMT videos (I've watched a bunch) either explicitly or implicitly are on the theme "it was tough but I survived (and it sure was pretty)" and while this one captures that vibe as well, it also has an extra unspoken power because of something lurking underneath the experience, which perhaps can be expressed as "I didn't even know I could possibly do this (and if I'm honest, I didn't think I was even allowed to do this)". Overcoming THAT is super powerful in a way other JMT stories simply aren't.
Oh also, love the music. REALLY happy to watch a JMT video without the ubiquitous "soulful acoustic guitar music". You know what I'm talking about. 🤓
Ha, yes, bear encounter videos. I have a feeling we've watched quite a few of the same ones. An important corrective is to also watch videos like this one where the subject doesn't even come up (well, it does, but very briefly, and no bears are sighted). That's clearly the most common experience.

Great video! Brought back some awesome scenery memories from my hike. I am pretty sure my son and I crossed paths with your crew 7/25-7/26 @VVR?

Great video! This is not easy - I attempted the JMT this past August. I made it 150 miles. Altitude, blisters and getting seperated from my group told me it wasn't my time. I'll be back next year to complete the section from Bishop Pass to Whitney. Again, I loved your video. Super inspiring! Looking forward to seeing more of your adventures!

It's a tough one. A lot of people don't make it halfway. Great job going 150 miles!

My best friend Kenyatta (a black man) and I get our permit out of Happy isles July 14th. We’re both nervous & excited it’s so crazy 😊😅
Good deal on your video btw I was genuinely entertained

Hah. my bear encounter videos actually led to finding hiking videos and that led to me finding your channel!
    Funny coincidence.

This was awesome! Thanks so much for sharing. What an incredible journey. I am inspired to…hike more. Not sure I wanna sleep outside, on purpose, with a fully functioning shower…but if I ever do, you’ve empowered me to know I can do it. 😂

Great video! Our group didn't make it to Whitney; we exited at Kearsearge, because of my altitude sickness. Wah! But the beautiful familiar scenes bring back happy memories.
