Hiking 40 Miles On The Rae Lakes Loop
A few weeks after returning from Iceland, I met up with my friend Brian who just came off the Wonderland Trail, and we set off for a 40 mile loop around Rae Lakes. This hike does require permits, which can sometimes be difficult to get, but I managed to grab one pretty easily this year. We both hiked the JMT a few years prior, so it was great to be back!
Between the climbing and altitude, doing this in 3 days was a challenge, but we got it done.

Struggling Through Peru's Salkantay Trek

This was my first big international hike, so I chose to go through a company in order to not worry about logistics. I had recently run a half marathon in DC, and coming out of the winter months, my hope was that my fitness would be enough to feel strong on this trail. But I was humbled pretty quick! After a couple days in Cusco trying to get acclimated, my body pretty much shut down on day one ...
Solo Hiking 50 Miles on the Laugavegur Trail in Iceland
มุมมอง 2.7K5 หลายเดือนก่อน
I hiked this trail in 4 days at the end of July, 2024. I hiked the extra 20 miles on the Fimmvörðuháls trail, which ends in Skogar Falls. I highly suggest to hike this extra section. I makes for a more climactic ending. Knowing what the weather is capable of doing, I consider myself lucky to have had decent weather for a good portion of the trail. It got dicey on the final day for about 6 hours...
Raining all day in the Grand Canyon - Solo Hiking Rim to Rim

The Grand Canyon Rim to Rim is about 24 miles one way. Permits to camp can be hard to get, but I was able to get a walk-up permit to camp at Bright Angel Campground. I would suggest doing this if you have some flexibility on your trip and you prefer to camp overnight. Most people I saw were day hiking or trail running. But I think camping at the bottom is the best and safest way to enjoy the Ca...

Gear Review After the Tahoe Rim Trail - What was worth it

Hiking 30 Miles in the Lost Creek Wilderness

Decided to take on a new trail, hiking 28 miles in the Lost Creek Wilderness over a weekend. This trail sits at a high elevation, but doesn't hold onto to snow like it does in the Rockies. So it's a great one to do early in the season.

Thanks for watching! I have a couple of gear videos including one I posted last year, so you can check those out. On shorter trips, I usually bring a few wipes and give myself a wipe-down at the end of the day. If you're close to a stream, you can rinse off. But at the end of the day, you just have to be ok with being dirty for a few days :)

Need to pee? Just squat and go! ;) I have been hiking for years and unfortunately quite often you just go when you need to. Other hikers get it as well. #1 that is... #2. If it's an emergency, always carry a poop shovel - dig a little hole and go! Then, bury it. ...;)
