few years late but.. Ranks are used mainly for the player to be registered as a higher status within the factions.. example: Mage college has rank 0 as Novice and rank 6 as Archmage. that allows faction members (and sometimes non-faction members) to react to you according to how far you've progressed in the storyline, as well as give you ownership of certain things/places (such as the archmage's quarters and the bed and items within). pretty sure the ranks can also be used for generic npcs to react to each other (or you, maybe?) differently.. but im not too sure on that.
Is there a way to add a Player to a faction? For instance I'm working on a mod where the Player is part of the Warrens, is there a way to add Player to said faction?
I want to make a edit that prevents spouses from reporting/becoming hostile to werewolves (with the player in mind). Do I have to edit individual NPC or can I edit the marriage faction itself?
I didn't quite get what you were talking about in the crime tab. It sounds awesome but I don't know what the buttons are referring to. Members of the faction? The player?
im trying to put the brotherhood in a variety of imperial armor from Gunetwork, and change the institue into the first order. Drives me insane trying to figure this out on fallout 4. Can you do a video explaining how to edit what the NPCs in each faction wears
Same ,but i have a problems on how making a mod armor(non vanilla) to be exactly inside the game ,i already download BSSA and USS umbrella corp armor ,but whenever i tried to add them into leveledlist , they're gone and npc turn naked
Hi Darkfox, you mentioned factions controlling dialogue, and hovered the mouse over the bandit faction. Do you know of a way of giving the bandit idle chatter dialogue to a custom faction? Cheers, and thanks for the tutorials!
As I mentioned, it's a matter of just trying adding different bandit factions to your NPC and see what it does. Try taking a look at other bandits in the kit, and see what factions they have. Not all dialogue however is governed by factions, just a lot of standard dialogue linked to the type of character.
The chatter is linked to the banditfaction, only issue is I'd like my own faction to be hostile to vanilla bandits, but also have that same chatter. Will keep experimenting, cheers :]
Ain0nline Haven't worked much with factions myself, but in your case I would duplicate the bandit faction, rename the duplicated faction and make it hostile towards the vanilla bandit faction. In theory it should produce the desired result.
Howdy! Love your videos, and I hate to bug with a noob question, but I'm learning the ropes and scouring for something specific, and I'm wondering if you could help point me in the right direction. I'm looking for a script that'll disable an NPC (make it completely inaccessible by the player--make it go poof from the game) once a quest is finished. I'll figure out where to put the script, just need a nudge in the right direction. Thanks for continuing to post updated videos! :D
Hi Darkfox! I really need some help; I made a simple Khajiit follower with the creation Kit and I need to know how to get the mod onto the nexus or bethesda.net, but I haven't a clue how to do it! I've never used 7zip to archive anything, or how to do it. Do you know how to help me with that, or point me to a tutorial please? Thanks! :) I really appreciate the help you have offered so far on youtube!
Is there a way to make a custom race part of a faction? I created a dwarf race and I dont want dwarven automatons to be aggressive to me because i am in theory their master.
If I want something different to happen if you're arrested for murder (as opposed to any other crime), should I edit the existing crime faction or create a new one?
When I try to create a faction and put my npcs in it, and place them next to each other in a space so they can attack as a party, they are busy trying to kill each other. Can you please help? Any ideas?
howdy darkfox. me again. just wondering if you would be able to help me out with something either by replying or even possibly making a video for anyone else wanting to know how to do it. ive made follower mods before and now ive had quiet a few people say they want me to make myself as a follower and i want to use custom clothing/armor from another mod. how can i put those custom clothes on my custom follower? do just load the clothing/armor mod into the creation kit along with my esp im working on and it will show up in the clothing section of the customizing? thanks in advance
To include a mod in another, you need to make the clothing mod an esm. This can be done in TESEDIT or even Wyre Bash. That siad, I have never done it myself so I couldn't help out. I just know of the process.
Darkfox127 do you think if i just started over again from scratch and i created my follower in the clothing/armor mods esp then i suppose that would work wouldnt it?
Rhys Ian Harris I suppose it would, but then you would be uploading the esp of that mod, which you would then have to get permission to use from the author.

You got some cool old school games. Nice one.

Years later and I still come back here for references :).
ranks would be useful if your making a follower in the imperial legion or stormcloaks.
Boring it would be better to make a mode where you make player base or whatever you want
