They keep trying to downplay the situation by stating the death rate outside China is only 0.2%. But I believe that once someone gets sick, it is too late. Especially with the virus being asymptomatic.. If every government follows in China’s footstep, I fear for the world. The China government told their own wuhan citizens to not bother wearing mask, and only after lockdown they started asking people to wear masks, but it’s too late.

Solas O'Dimm the Mask doesn't matter too much, and even with the price spikes, you can get far cheaper ones than that (MSA advantage 410 for example)...the filter is the important part, you want a P3 aka N100 particulate filter...

Well, the flu kills over 600,000 globally each year so this new bug has a ways to go before becoming equally hazardous. This 2019-nCov virus is probably not circulating yet in western countries and there's still a chance it can be contained and a pandemic averted. Self isolating may not yet be necessary, would unduly affect our economy and many of us can't afford to not go out to work and buy groceries. We can certainly try to limit the risk of exposure by limiting contact with others, frequent washing of hands and not touching out eyes, nose or mouth but it's a little early to be boarding ourselves into our homes. It may be reasonable for travelers to effectively self quarantine for two weeks and if they must interact with others, wear the surgical masks as those masks are designed to reduce the amount of viruses expelled when the wearer sneezes or coughs rather than protect the wearer.

you dont understand some patients refuse to go to the hospitals because there are already too many patients there. but for people who already show clear sign of affected virus it is not possible to make them stay at home. in fact many patients refuse to admit that they need to be qurantied. someone even go more public to justify their thoughts. besides some elder patients even refuse to wear masks because it is too uncomfortable for them. the situation now is worse as hell. no one knows what is right or right. but qurantine people always a good choice.
They would and for most cases they are, but what the hell do you do with people that panic and start behaving stupidly and dangerously? You can't reason with someone that is scared out of their minds, nor can you just let them be if you hope to stop an epidemic. Well, as far as I am aware, the situation is sometimes very tricky, the fact is most people are cooperative, following instructions to either isolate themselves or going with the escort squad when requested. but there are always people that are uncooperative, ignoring warnings and still gathering, endangers those who do follow the isolation rules. once found out or got reported, they will be arrested. none of us here understands what the background situation was for those footages, so why would you judge so quickly?

In Singapore, the citizens are all worried; trying to buy more masks for themselves to prevent getting the virus, but the government here keeps saying masks are not required unless sick. They keep trying to downplay the situation by stating the death rate outside China is only 0.2%. But I believe that once someone gets sick, it is too late. Especially with the virus being asymptomatic.. If every government follows in China’s footstep, I fear for the world. The China government told their own wuhan citizens to not bother wearing mask, and only after lockdown they started asking people to wear masks, but it’s too late.

Well, the flu is something that can't be completely exterminated. It can be prevented, though, if you take the correct medicine, do tests, etc. Most importantly, though, you should have a healthy lifestyle. It's a disease that we actually got under control.

Well, the flu kills over 600,000 globally each year so this new bug has a ways to go before becoming equally hazardous. This 2019-nCov virus is probably not circulating yet in western countries and there's still a chance it can be contained and a pandemic averted. Self isolating may not yet be necessary, would unduly affect our economy and many of us can't afford to not go out to work and buy groceries. We can certainly try to limit the risk of exposure by limiting contact with others, frequent washing of hands and not touching out eyes, nose or mouth but it's a little early to be boarding ourselves into our homes.
It may be reasonable for travelers to effectively self quarantine for two weeks and if they must interact with others, wear the surgical masks as those masks are designed to reduce the amount of viruses expelled when the wearer sneezes or coughs rather than protect the wearer.
People still have things to do and can't just cancel plans and stay at home. Besides the media and other people and Chinese propaganda have been telling the populous its not a big deal("the flu is worse people").

Well, as far as I am aware, the situation is sometimes very tricky, the fact is most people are cooperative, following instructions to either isolate themselves or going with the escort squad when requested. but there are always people that are uncooperative, ignoring warnings and still gathering, endangers those who do follow the isolation rules. once found out or got reported, they will be arrested. none of us here understands what the background situation was for those footages, so why would you judge so quickly?
