Daniel Sieberg spoke with Mattel's Jim Sheridan about their new mind control toy, Mind Flex. The game uses brain waves to power a fan that floats a ball through an obstacle course.
for those of you confused on what it would be like to learn to use this, it would be like learning to only raise one eyebrow. Or like gaining a new limb that you can use.
@DonnieDead They are using a camera which monitors the movement of the pupils when the user looks at particular keys. I assume this works by monitoring heart rate or something similar. If brainwaves could be deciphered like this, prosthetic limbs controlled by the mind would have already become common in medicine.
His exact words were-The object of the game is to move a ball through the obstacle corse, and you do that (not like I just did with my hands) but ahh using the power of your mind. There the lie is. You do not move the ball at all with the power of your mind. The head pice sends a message to the a fan telling it how much heat it is sensing. If it is a lot (of heat) the fan blows faster, if its a little the fan blows less.
It simply measures the electrical activity in your brain and converts it to a signal which is then transferred to a computer and then transferred to the fan. The more you focus, the more activity there is to the location of the brain in which the device focuses on. These things are becoming more available to the public. They are even planning to bring a game system that only require this device. Unfortunately, it can be inaccurate. Don't call it shit if you don't understand how it works.
@killindean13 they have a specialized attachement for most ARs and pistols called a corner shot. it has a camera on the end and can even use a grenade launcher
Here is a potential to train people to focus, and ability to focus is at the crust of learning and perfecting your craft. Better students, greater pianists, sharper scientists - such EEG devices can radically enhance learning.
Is it safe? If we use it alot it wont give us long term mental problems will it? That's always a big problem with new toys. The health risk and this one works so very closely with one of the most important major organs of the body, there had a lot of safety tests involved.....(I hope).

Your mind does not control it. A fan controls it by picking up a heat signal remotely form the head set. A clever way to use heat sensors combined with remote controlled fans.

You can still move objects solely with the mind. You probably would have to start from a piece of paper on a pin.. it takes alot of practice to do it on command. Most people call it telekinesis, but the correct term is psychokinesis. If you look for a method, you'll ultimately find out that it you 'Just do it.'. There is no hand gesture that should help you, nor a thought even.

Sort of. It's a certification. First you have to have a degree in either medical, teaching, or Psychology. Then you can get certified through the Biofeedback Certification Institute of America. I can't tell you how beneficial this technology could become if it would just become mainstream. People have been cured of PTSD and depression...basically anything stress related.
Ive seen this technology been used on prosthesis. It wasnt perfect. Why arent they not perfecting it or trying to make it as good as possible before they start focusing on toys? :S
