This aired on Friday February 4th, 1994 and looks back on the Beatles invasion. CBS also aired another story on Sunday February 6th 1994. See my other "Beatles CBS News" reports.
What happened then....was never repeated with any band or any celebrity. It was phenomenal, magical, unforgettable and up to now , 2020, they are still in the news.
There are just no words to describe how amazing the Beatles are. Even 40+ years later, fans love them. RIP John and George and God bless Paul and Ringo. Beatles forever!
I heard that "I Want To Hold Your Hand" was the song that shook the world. This is just amazing. The Beatles will be famous forever and they'll never be forgotten. RIP George and John Beatles forever! :D
Yes. It was America's introduction to the Beatles. I will never forget it. Right after New Year's 1964 is the first time I heard I Want To Hold Your Hand. At the time I thought it was their very first record not realizing it was actually their sixth and they had been the rage in the UK and Europe. Ever since then, it's been a life-long love affair for me. Even 50 years after their breakup, they're still the only ones who matter to me.
Their music is what started my voice as a vocalist same with elvis.. if It wasnt for them then how would I get inspired? Yes it's true they changed our lives completely... thank you john paul george and ringo (Beatles forever) ❤
Their coming to America in Feb, 1964 was something, our country needed as well, in light of the president's assassination just a few months earlier. Their timing, in coming here, couldn't have been better, as our country needed this, and they were great
During all this I grew up in the Beatles have always been my favorite group I'm 67 now still listen to them almost every day as a group and on their own
I was almost 10 years old that night, Feb 9th 1964, when we all gathered around a small black and white TV to watch the most anticipated TV event anyone up till then could imagine. I remember afterwards laying on the living room floor at my grandmother's house thumbing through the Sears cataloge every chance I'd get looking at electric guitars!
I saw them on Ed Sullivan and on my 9th birthday, I saw them in concert. It was Aug 1965 in Portland OR. They played for 37 minutes. It seemed much longer. At the time, I thought, 'This is the best place to be in the world'. I was not wrong.
im 18 and I love the beatles and all the music from that era. Wish I knew more kids my age who like this stuff. I can't even listen to jonas brothers, ga ga, beiber, anything even remotely like that. I gag when I hear the crap that they come out with today. Cant beat the beatles.
Jack Girote The Beatles are great. I got into them and heard Paul speak of Buddy Holly. So, then I got into him. You have to go backwards with music. Get into what the band you like enjoyed.
It has always fascinated me to know how many people from my generation aren't as big of fans as I am. I love the Beatles and have been listening since 1985. PS- They had more number one hits between 1963 and 1970 than any other group. EVER... at least 27 plus hits.
I was about seven when they came out on Ed Sullivan's show. The songs were so romantic and happy, and they were especially that way for the girls, who responded like it was their first days as women. In particular the lyrics often were about two friends discussing the status of a girlfriend. Priceless!
I was five years old when i seen my aunt who is black slinging her hair back and forth singing twist and shout, the atmosphere back then is another dimension that wistfully haunts me, with delight!
God, we need another musical super group like the Beatles to wake up today's music industry. The modern scene today reminds me a lot of the pre-Beatles era, boy/girl bands and solo singers heavily dependent on others to write their songs and to produce their music.

Yes, no good music is out, now. It is like 1960, 61 in songs, now. So many greats were not letting new songs go. Plus that terrible passing of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and J.P. The Big Bopper Richardson.
And now here we are, approaching the 50th anniversary of the release of the final album they recorded together (ABBEY ROAD) and their flame burns as brightly as ever. The Beatles rocketed to the top in 1964 -- and they stayed there. Thank you John, Paul, George and Ringo for being the music of my life.
I remember I was a kid and everybody was freaking out on the Beatles, but it didn’t stop them from watching them on the Ed Sullivan show. Curiosity got the best of them LOL! From that night on I was hooked and never again will there ever be a group of such talented street kids who change the world of music.
Fuelled by the raw talent and ground-breaking originality of the musical acts of that era, the record industry has ever since built itself up into a worldwide institutional empire which has an ever-decreasing need for real talent to amuse the "tastes" of an increasingly undiscriminating public.
@2:58 remembering that night, my brother Daniel (Vietnam vet soon thereafter) called me into the den and said, Celeste you have to see this group! 'Come on'! I remember like it was 'Yesterday' & loved British rock ever since, bravo!

They were everything to me growing up and I mean everything we didn’t have TH-cam of course Anywhere moment a film clip was shown on news etc. I would be glued to the television I learn to play the guitar and I love music because of them it’s a lot to ask for a band that the whole world should revolve around them but that’s exactly what happened
I'd like to be standing just off-stage in the wings during one of their theatre shows in England sometime in the fall of 1963. It must have been fantastic to see the spectacle of one of their live shows.
It is highly possible that no other group of four young men will ever get together and accomplish what the Beatles did for the music industry To write a song, not that easy. To write a song that becomes a hit, you got talent. To write a hit that becomes number one , you're on top of the charts. To hold the no.1 .2 . 3. 4. & 5 spot (in a row) on Billboards top 100 songs of 1964 , you're on top of the world. Beatlemania , the screaming , the hair , the sound and more screaming.....there will never ever be another Beatles band or anything close to it. For those who were there to experience it....damn... Wasn't it awesome? For those too young and missed it...... I'm so sorry.... Cuz you missed out big-time

And our response to them was all spontaneous. I'm 71 now and remember it all clearly like it happened yesterday. Music, our AM radios, was everything to us back then. If you were a teen in the 60s, you almost have to agree there hasn't been anything like the Beatles impact since. 💗😊
John Lennon turned out to be right when he said, after being asked about the secret to their success: "if I knew that, we'd all form groups and become managers". There is no way to put thr once in a lifetime experience of Beatlemania into words so that someone who wasn't there can feel it or understand it.
Very moving. Very well done. Nothing like it again in my lifetime. I was 13 that year. And this is where we first moved on after JFK. Little did we know what lay ahead, but what a time to be 13. We Boomers were lucky to be born when we were. Thanks, Beatles. A lot.
Yes...JFK's assassination had a lot to do with it. By Feb. of '64, Americans were ready to end their grieving & were looking for something to cheer them up, & the British invasion was the perfect antidote. As Michael Caine put it, "we sent our boys over there to cheer up you yanks." George, Canada

My second favorite group... after "The Shoes"
Haha the shoes was brilliant
I don't know man, I like The Heels better.
The Beatles yesterday, today and forever 🍏💚

Amazing how Paul remained so well preserved 30 years later.
You'll never see another entity like the Beatles ever again in your lifetime.

I was amazed by that octave jump vocal sound coming out of my mom's radio and I was 5 years old!
I was lucky enough to see them live
Those had to have been fun to see. Fun to hear. 😀
Beatles were the best, luv still listening to them
I'll say it again...they were so adorable 🥰
They sounded so good, it was like divine!
Oh I believe in yesterday…….those were the happiest days of my life!!🤙🏼😎

Fun to see this. After Buddy Holly, we needed the Beatles. And all four were so witty, too.
Yes indeed - and The BEATLES were a big fan of BUDDY HOLLY , Joe Nania - New York City
I think they could have had a career in comedy if they weren't the world's most gifted musicians.
I AM CRYING😢😭😭. THEY CHANGED THE MUSIC, THEY ARE THE BEST, REST IN PEACE GEORGE AND JOHN
Fun Fact: The Beatles were the greatest selling act in show biz history.
Did you post that fact, because you didn’t think anyone knew that already? I always thought it was Herman’s Hermits. 😂
America may have invented rock n roll, but the British perfected it.
Canada didn't do a half bad job of it either.
