    Thanks a bunch!!! great information for the "beginner" with a scope. I've personally always used iron sights on my 308 rifle. Now that I'm at an age where I need a scope I'll be taking this information with me to the range to dial in my new scope. Thanks again for helping me to understand better as a beginner scope user.

    Good video, but reiterating that the directions (up, down, left, right) on the knobs translate to the direction you want the point of impact to change is important/helpful, since it can be counter-intuitive for beginners... I used to think those directions were where I wanted to reticle to shift. Maybe I am the only one, but it took me a while to permanently remember that principle.

      On less advanced scopes without labeling you click toward point of the hit which means next time the cross hairs should be closer to bullseye. These modern fancy scopes are doing same thing with labels "UP & DOWN". Make you think you are going up while going down or left when adjusting right.

    Chasing the bullet hole with the center crosshairs is the most common way to sight in a scope, but there’s a better way and a whole lot more accurate way of dialing your scope in.
    Trying to adjust the point of impact to the center of the crosshairs can be a pain in the butt sometimes and they never come out perfectly accurate in my opinion. There’s a better way of sighting in your rifle scope and its simply just changing around your process. The gun is pointing at the point of impact and the scope is at the point of aim, so instead of bringing or “adjusting” the bullet hole up to the center crosshairs what you want to do and should do is bring your center crosshairs towards the bullet hole made for the most accuracy. For years I’ve been doing it wrong and basically lucking out, but not anymore. My scopes are accurate and precise now and it’s a simple process how to do it. Here’s a short video that explains it better than I ever could. th-cam.com/video/EmxbECg2znQ/w-d-xo.html

  • @jbhk7977

    Thanks for this vid my friend, but maybe you are interested in a much easier way to sight in your scope. In theory you need only ONE pellet with this method. What you need is a rifle stand or a setup where the rifle stays on target when you turn the turrets. It goes as follows: Position your target at 25/50/75/100 yards, what ever distance you want to zero at. Then place your rifle in a stand or contraption and aim for the center of the target and shoot. The pellet will punch a hole somewhere. You know can use this hole to zero in your scope. Keep your scope pointed at the center of the target and make sure the rifle doesn't move when you do this final step, while looking through the scope, turn the turrets until the reticle is exactly over the hole that the first pellet made. That's it! Now your scope is spot on. The next shot at the center of the target will be spot on. Sometimes there is some fine tuning needed, but with a good quality scope, that's really all there is to it ;-)

    • @iamnotpaulavery
      @iamnotpaulavery ปีที่แล้ว

      That's exactly what I was wondering about! How do you do that? Does the instructions for that come with the scope?

  • @davidheafey3018
    @davidheafey3018 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Thanks very much for a simple, straightforward explanation of how to zero a scope. As silly as this may sound, I had a heck of a time understanding how to zero. My brain told me to move the crosshairs to the point of impact. It's the exact opposite. The point of impact needs to be moved to the crosshairs, so that's the direction you dial the turrets.

    A very well kept simple instruction, to the point. My problem is not with your video, but with some of the questions asked about your very well explained lesson. Owning and operating a firearm is a big responsibility & requires common sense! After reading some of the remarks about your video i have to say, if you do not understand this "simple" step of sighting in a scope, you probably shouldn't own ANY firearm. I am not being sarcastic, just that guns can be very dangerous in the wrong hands, before you purchase one get with someone who can teach you so you understand Everything about the gun you want to buy.

    I zero my scope in on a (300) 25 meter zero target for an m-4 carbine. once I get it zeroed in on the 25 meter target I shift over to a 25 -meter scaled silhouette target with target from 70-300 meters. I do good out to 200 meters, but the 250-300 meter not so good at time as the cross hair cover the target and on top of that I 83 years old and the eyes even with glasses is not that at a long distance. so don't turn the dial literally "up" or "left" but towards where it is labelled "up" or "left". got it

    Thanks for this, I know it is very simple if you know this info, but I have found from other videos that it is difficult to explain it easily to novices like myself. Well done!

    I've seen a pretty easy zero trick on a vid. last week. Aiming on bullseye fire one round. If it's off, while still aiming at the bullseye adjust scope so it centers up with the first shot. Don't move the rifle from fixed rest. Usually just two shots needed.

      Its the best way - both ways work though, just one takes a little longer.

      This is the way you adjust sights for Archery and it works fine. You will need to use a sled for your rifle to ensure
      there is no movement from the original shot.

    i got only one thing to add to this awesome video for beginners ! if you perfectfully weigh all projectiles ,powder and have perfect cartridges the moa will be more accurate ,the store bought ammo is massed produced so its always different shot to shot !!!

    • @TheMitchbassman
      @TheMitchbassman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      MOA will not change reguardless of ammo. Its a fixed value.

    Sir, You helped clear up a misconception about the way that the scope axes were labeled. In essence, they are like "fly to" for instrumentation...

    This is also the same logic when using iron sights too, not just optics. M16s, Garand’s, match target micrometer peep sights also operate on clicks. In some cases like Parker Hale they may use an English minute which is 1.2 inches at a 100 yards and so on - so always do good research to find the original instructions. Otherwise you will get frustrated, go broke on expensive ammo, or think something is wrong with an actually perfect rifle. Or same with the Israeli Tavor’s iron sights - learn and use basic math as their manual is set at 1.4cm at 25 meters - not yards! So you may want to make amateur dope sheets of what clicks mean and metric conversions. I started bringing a calculator to the range - and I am no sniper either :)

    If anything, just try to address the horizontal axis first, then move on to the vertical axis alignment. It is textbook.
