reading this in 2024... Thanks for the instructions. I finally got my first rifle (normally had shotguns and handguns) and had no idea what to do with the scope. I asked a few people at the range, and they couldn't be bothered to explain anything... and the instructions that came with the optic were vague or assumed prior training. This just helped me save a TON of time. I appreciate this!

@Tom Foster the cross hair itself should remain the same. On s SFP scope only at the highest magnification are the additional dots and hashes at scale.
With a FFP scope all dots and hashes are at scale at any magnification.
Hope that helps. Good shooting to ya.

I appreciate this. Just bought my first rifle(ruger precision rimfire) and a scope. I wanted to do the zero myself and i didnt want the store to do it so this was very helpful. I like how halfway through you closed your eyes an just messed it up real bad then had to zero it its very much like getting a scope out of the box for the first time as you never know where your gonna hit.

I've been shooting since I was about 6 years old (I'm now in my 60s), but never with a scope. I retired from the army (24 years), fired Expert with M16, but never used a scope. In recent years, I've been learning to use a scope, but it has been confusing and I'm just about ready to go back to iron sights. I've had shooting buddies try to get it into my head, but I guess I'm thick headed. BUT, YOU MADE IT SO EASY THAT I GET IT. Thank you.

I use the "ole Kentucky country boy" method.
    1) Bore sight the scope to get it on paper.
    2) Set your rifle in a Lead Sled (to remove human error) with the cross hairs on the bulls eye (at your distance of choice). Fire one shot.
    3) Where ever your shot hit, adjust your sled (NOT the scope) to where the cross hairs are centered on your bullet hole. Then, adjust your windage/elevation to where the cross hairs are back on the bulls eye.
    4) Take your second shot and hit the bulls eye.
Viola! Your scope is zeroed in with 2 shots, using the "ole Kentucky country boy" method. Accurate & cheap, which are my two middle names. Thanks for another instructive video.

This past weekend I sighted in my new hunting rifle I have never done this before because I gave up rifle hunting for the bow at a young age. It would have been nice to have seen this before hand but all went well and it only took 8 rounds to get close. I'll be fine tuning throughout the summer. I bore sighted at home and set up at 50 yards at the range on my Caldwell Matrix but instead of counting the clicks which would have been easier I lined up with the bullseye and adjusted to the hole which worked okay but the right and left adjustments were a bit more difficult.

First of all congratulations for this video, (part 1 and part 2)... I most confess I was having some difficulty with my optic (Vector Minotaur 10-50x60). After seeing your videos I went today to the range (GSG 15 model chambered in 22.LR) and started to do like you said step by step. The only difference is that my optic is 1/8 MOA... I have some photos but I can download them by comments on TH-cam, channel.

The one thing for a beginner that is confusing prior to this video is do the adjustments on the scope move the crosshairs to the point of impact, or move the point of impact to the crosshairs. I know this sounds dumb but it is an issue of interpretation and they are opposites of each other. If you think you're moving the crosshairs TO the point of impact, you'll be moving in the wrong direction.

Nice job KB on the scope zero series, it's good to visualize the initial impact of the bullet, apply the correct MOA / click count and see the change of the impact of the bullet closer to the bulls eye. I was glad to see you triangulating the bullet point of impact and taking the average distance to the bulls eye to adjust the windage / elevation. Keep up the great education / information series. And......do you own a shotgun??? (Farmagedon is getting closer!!!)

I was to for the longest time but my eye site got worse so I have a nice scope on my 308, and I wouldn't follow this guy. U can center it in 1 to 2 shots. Always make a larger target at 25 to 50yds and go from there. It's really easy to sight in.

      @zhukie 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Hunterslife315 Me too, after 10 years of iron sights, just about to sight my first scope shortly...also the longest casual range available to me is 50m so I concour with zeroing at 25 or 50. Could you take the average of a 3 shot group and simply move your reticle POA to that mark instead?

Good video showing how someone can do this without having all the fancy gadgets or as much as a target with preprinted lines. In a pinch I have fired a shot and used the hole as the aiming point. (much easier with larger caliber) A very realistic situation if one forgets things. (Like the fact that your glasses are actually on your head on top of your cap! maybe too tinted to see though?) Been there, done that. I tend to forget which way to turn the knobs and my eyes are not good enough to see the arrows on scope at indoor range. You'd think after shooting for over 40 years I would remember that! 50/50 chance but seems turn wrong way more often than not.

usually when I sit in a rifle first thing I'll do is all remove the bolt from the bolt action rifle and then bore sighted through the bore of the rifle as I do that I'll study it right at that position then I will adjust the scope until when I get the crosshairs just right on the target once that's all set then I'll put the bolt back in the rifle and then within three rounds usually get it right on the target but usually all start at 50 yards once that's all settle it done then you'll move 2 the 100-yard range and then fire one shot then slightly adjust the elevation and fire two more shots if that prints it right on the target then basically you're all set usually a real good hunting rifle will have the scope mounted rings a little higher so you could see underneath the scope your iron sights because your iron sights are a great backup because Scopes have a tendency to get bumped around or banged around and they lose their adjustment after a while out in the field.

I never hear any one recommend my favorite technique for zeroing a scope. I got one of the fairly cheap lasers that slip down into the bore of the gun. (at night) I laser a dot on the side of a neighbors house that is a couple of lots away from me. I set the gun on a rest and send a beam out of the garage door, across the back yard about three houses away from me. Then I adjust the scope to match the laser dot. THEN ... go out to the range and start really close (15 yards or so) and fire one shot - adjusting the scope from there as you outline in this video. The laser just puts you really really close on target at 100 yards and you have a lot less shooting and adjusting to do at the range. Ron

I do this like you do. I saw somewhere on youtube how to zero the scope in two shots. But it takes a Caldwell Lead Sled or something like it. He takes the first shot, then moves the cross hairs to where the round hit and takes the second shot to make sure it hits in same spot. Enjoy the videos.

i saw a similar video. I wonder why the other guy moved the cross hairs to where the round hit and kotaboy moved the cross hairs to where it should have it?

reinvestorintally , sorry for late response only just found post! The 3 shot zero is very quick , accurate and ammo friendly, if done properly. The biggest thing is once you have fired the first shot it is vital to keep the firearm as steady as possible while you move the crosshairs to cover this first hole. Once done come back on aim and the second shot should be right on the money at POA, a third shot is used to confirm zero. I have tried both methods and must confess find the 3 shot quicker and less confusing, no need to wonder or forget how many clicks to turn, even the man himself got confused on this one! Lol!! Regard from across the pond Clive

You tube would rather push other videos than put part 2 right after part 1. Stupid. I found it on your channel though.
Anyway, thank you for taking the time to not only explain the process, but SHOW how it is done!!!
Now i won't have to look like an idiot zeroing in the new Sig scope i ordered for my 15yr olds 22. Whew!
    You rock!
Oh & from your gear, I want to THANK YOU for your service.
Now back to your channel to view some more videos.

Shoot a group and just walk the reticle over to the POI, through the glass. That zero, is more precise than the average shooter.
