    My 40+ year old Maytag washer, the dryer is still working, motor froze so I bought another Maytag top loader 4.8 no agitator figuring it would last another 40 years. Well after 5 washes, 2 days, oil started leaking with the smell of a burning motor. Finally got a tech out after 2 weeks and the recommendations where replace at the same price, repair, quickest to get up and running or get a refund. Opted for a refund which will take several weeks and pickup the MayTag. When I got the approval for the refund, I went to the Appliance store and purchased a Speed Queen TR5003WN which was delivered the same day.

    We have a 5.8 cubic foot top loading LG machine, so a little larger (deeper) than the machine here. For shorter people not being able to reach the bottom is a real thing. I bought my wife a small stand about 6 - 8 inches high which she keeps beside the washer - problem solved.
    By the way, the Maytag warranty that sounds good only covers the motor, not the transmission. We threw out a five year old machine that looked brand new because the repair was too costly. Maytag agrees with me, their transmissions are crap. The proof they know their transmissions are crap is in the fact they won't warranty it. Why warranty something you know has a high rate of repair.

      Thanks for sharing, Rick! Here at Don's Appliances, we have our own in-house 5 year warranty program that covers everything except cosmetic. Consider shopping with an independent retailer rather than a big box, sometimes you will have better customer service and additional options when your appliances break. Please let us know if you have any additional questions!

      The best top load washer is one that fell on its side. 😂 In all seriousness though, you really do want a front loader. Every single testing organization has found them to clean better and save *literally thousands* in dryer energy costs because of their better ability to balance and spin faster.

    I am shopping for Bosch washing machine at the moment because I don't like our Whirlpool Top Load NON agitator. We always watch our clothes or blankets sitting on top of the water hardly moving while the machine is agitating. We can't see why would that even works. Our technician with 45 years experience who came to fix our washing machine said, all the LG, Whirlpool etc are in his own words "shitty appliances". He said that's all he does is repair them. He said Maytag used to have good reputation but no longer as it belongs now to Whirlpool. He said next time to buy Bosch appliances. They hardly need any repairs. They are only $100-$200 or more but they are tougher and well made. I am currently looking for Bosch Top Load with Agitator large.

    • @Donsappliances
      @Donsappliances  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! Thank you for your comment. Washing machines with agitators are going to wash clothes better in general. A machine with no agitator won't get items as clean, but it will be more delicate on clothing, bedding, etc. As for which brands are more reliable, it really depends on the unit. Even units from brands like Bosch, or Maytag, can end up needing repairs.

    I currently have a Maytag large capacity top load washer, but without an Agitator. I have had this unit for 12 years, but I'm currently looking for a new washer. I like the large capacity washer, but I want an Agitator this time. I find that washers without agitators have a problem with the heavy bedding pulling to one side of the washer, & stopping.

    • @Donsappliances
      @Donsappliances  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! The loads are more likely to become unbalanced in a washer without an agitator. Agitator washers will clean your laundry better. The main difference is you will lose that space, and agitator washers aren't as gentle on your clothes/bedding. This could be something related to your water pressure not being strong enough, or you might want to double check that there's no leaks in your water line (and that it is hooked up properly). If you overload the washer, this will cause the wash bin not to spin. Hopefully this helps!

    I just bought an LG top load and it looks really nice. But I plan to return it, because at low resolutions it shakes pretty bad and I can feel my floor vibrate. I'm wondering if the large drums are not a great thing to have in a house with a wooden floor over a crawl space.

    • @Donsappliances
      @Donsappliances  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You could also get a rubber mat to lay under the washer to help with the vibration. Make sure you aren't overloading the washer either, as this can throw the drum off balance making it vibrate more.

      @@Donsappliances thanks for the response. The first two loads were pretty small, 3 pairs of jeans shorts and 10 T-shirts. The second load was all baby clothes. Update- well I went with an LG WT7305CW top loader Washing Machine with Agitator. Another LG Aggravation Appliance. When doing a small load of laundry the water level never reaches over the clothes for a single person. So I have to stop it then set it to "Deep Wash" it completely over fills the tank almost completely over the agitator. so much for the sensing software a joke. I just cannot believe LG R&D how they can make a machine not fill to cover the clothes at all or completely over fill wasting gallons & gallon of Water. Many reviews said this as well after I purchased it. LG neverever again.

    • @Donsappliances

      Maytag recommends using Swash laundry detergent, but it is certainly not required. It's just a detergent designed to prevent overpouring, and it is a highly concentrated formula. In general you only want to use about 2 tablespoons of detergent.
