Steven Wilson, four-time Grammy nominee, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and one of the hardest working artists in music, will be touring his Hand. Cannot. Erase. in North America for November 2016. Wilson has also announced two dates in India for December.
Kscope label mate, Bruce Soord (frontman for The Pineapple Thief) will be performing a solo set as opening act for the first 9 shows (starting in Portland and finishing in Dallas), after which, John Wesley will take over for the final 4 shows (starting in Atlanta).

It still hits me, after almost 6 years.
I saw 2 shows on the Hand Cannot Erase Tour because I knew it would be an emotional show and I wanted one show where I got wrapped up in the story, and one where I could sit back a bit more and just take in the music. With most if not all the songs being played, at one show straight through in order, it was truly an impactful emotional experience.
For those that might not know, to truly understand this great album its worthwhile to know the background story. Wilson saw a documentary film about this young English girl who was found in her apartment deceased, and they determined she had been dead for 3 years. She was a skeleton at that point, surrounded by christmas gifts she was wrapping. It was one of these large low income concrete faceless apartments, and no one, not even her family members, had bothered checking in on her for over 3 years. The landlord never checked because the TV was on for 3 years and she autopayed her rent. The cause of death remains a mystery, could have been a drug overdose, but no foul play. She just expired from the world and no one noticed. That sad story is what led Wilson to write the Hand Cannot Erase album. I bought the documentary film on DVD and its so sad and shocking. She led a fairly normal life, and then she was gone and forgotten.
Thus, being at the live concerts with the videos was very impactful and I welled up quite a few times, especially at the end. Just a powerful personal story, and Wilson is a genius to set it to powerful emotional music.
This song, obviously at the end, was the most emotional and I had to try hard to contain it in the live shows. Such a poignant powerful song. And the line "Hey brother, I feel like I'm living in parentheses...", my god. I still well up every time I hear this song and see this video.
For those interested, the documentary film is called Dreams of a Life, and the women's name was Joyce Vincent.

Well, parentheses are used to insert an afterthought into an otherwise complete sentence, so I think it basically means her life is an afterthought. It works great with the fact that parentheses encapsulate something; so not only is she an afterthought, but she's encapsulated within her afterthought-ness as well.

Trains are used by Steven Wilson alot, I think in part because it's a metaphor for being connected in modern society yet still isolated as people don't socialize on trains even though they're stuck face to face.

i know your pain friend, i lost my identical twin brother March 3rd 2023 and our birthday was November 1st it was so hard to get through that first bday without him.. he would have been 30 passed away at just 29 years young.

This song reminds me of my time in Poland. The first time i saw the video was live in one of his concerts and just guessed from it that it might be Poland and it actually did turn out to be. Spent quite a while there with my ex and we both used to love Steven. Just brings a lot of nostalgia.
Those few notes starting at 02:29 are among the most dramatic music ever recorded on a guitar. Not fancy or special at all, but nothing less than perfect in its context. It gets me every single time.
Not usually fond of music videos, but Steven Wilson's music videos are an exception. The solo playing in the background while the girl was dancing gave me goosebumps.

I have had the pleasure to see "Hand.Cannot. Erase." in May '16 in Athens, where I was invited to make photos.
Normally I stand with both feet firmly on the ground, but there was a magic in the room... it's hard to describe. It was like a dream.
Anyway one of my best concerts, if not the best ever!

I am currently in my university years and I really felt I was living in parentheses with my family before the pandemic. When covid came I had to move back with my parents, near my brother and his family, because of online classes and since then I've felt part of my family again. I even became friend of my nephews. I felt frustrated of 2020 and all the changes it brought, but now I gotta say not everything was bad.

So is she the same girl who was when 13, had a sister for six months who had arrived one February morning, pale and shellshocked, from past lives she could not imagine, who was 3 years older than her, but in no time they became friends.
They’d listen to her sister's mix tapes; Dead Can Dance, Felt, This Mortal Coil…
She introduced her to her favourite books, gave her clothes, and her first cigarette.
Sometimes they would head down to Blackbirds moor to watch the barges on Grand Union in the twilight.
She said “The water has no memory.”
For a few months everything about their lives was perfect.
It was only them, they were inseparable.
But gradually, she passed into another distant part of her memory,
until she could no longer remember her face, her voice, even her name?
And then she grows up and now her brother lives in some other country, and barely talks to her and every time they talk, she feels drowsy because of the different time zones and it's her sleeping time and she fails to finish telling him everything she wants to? OH MY FUCKIN' GOD! THIS IS THE SADDEST THING EVER! If she's the same girl who lost her imaginary/sick sister when she was 13, and NOW THIS? MAN, THIS IS SAD!
I don't picture it as a phone call, I think she's writing him a letter. She's so depressed she can't even write a full letter to her brother without going to sleep. Now THAT is sad. "Do the kids remember me?" really gets me
Actually, I think she dies before finishing the letter. As the album is based on Joyce Vincent's history, "She was an asthma sufferer, and an asthma attack have been suggested as a possible cause of death [...] she was lying on her back, next to a shopping bag, surrounded by Christmas presents she had wrapped but never delivered. It is not known to whom the presents were addressed."

O Steven Wilson é tão foda, que eu me lembro perfeitamente de quando encontrei as músicas do Porcupine Tree pela primeira vez no TH-cam, logo em seguida eu encontrei o projeto paralelo dele, Blackfield. Como eu não conhecia a voz dele ainda, passei uns 3 dias pesquisando as músicas de ambas as bandas e achei tudo muito maravilhoso, depois fui perceber no próprio vídeo da música Blackfield a foto do Steven Wilson e fui me tocar que era ele também. O cara é tão foda, que não importa por onde você conheça ele, ele vai te impressionar com qualquer música!!
Conheci o Porcupine Tree em 2009. A primeira música deles que ouvi foi "Feel so Low" do Lightbulb Sun, que nem me chamou tanto a atenção (embora hoje eu ame). Mas depois ouvi Blackest Eyes e foi puro amor! Steven é um gênio. Engraçado pensar que o primeiro disco solo dele que ouvi foi o Grace for Drowning, e eu nem curti tanto (mais uma vez, hoje eu amo). Mas quando ouvi o The Raven..., fui arrebatado. E quanto ao Hand. Cannot. Erase, já pode ser facilmente considerado um dos meus discos favoritos de todos os tempos!
