    6:15 Intermittent fasting rules - #6
    6:43 Intermittent fasting rules - #7
Today I’m going to cover the most important rules of intermittent fasting. I’ve done a lot of different videos on this topic, but I wanted to condense everything from those videos into just one.
The 7 most important intermittent fasting rules:
    1. Water, tea, and coffee are fine to have while fasting. I think drinking water while fasting is beneficial. Certain types of tea may actually help you fast for longer and decrease hunger. Coffee is fine, but don’t overdo it.
    2. I believe taking certain supplements while fasting is important. This includes taking vitamins, electrolytes, trace minerals, nutritional yeast, and omega-3 fatty acids. A green drink without fiber (like wheatgrass juice powder) is fine. You may want to avoid protein powders and branched-chain amino acids. You can try bone broth or MCT oil, but they don’t work well for everyone.
    3. Don’t eat unless you’re hungry. If you meet your fasting goal, but you’re not hungry, and you feel like you can go longer, then go a little longer. But don’t go too far to the point where you’re weak, tired, irritable, or dizzy.
    4. The longer the fast, the more important it is to refeed slowly. If you do a fast for 48 hours or longer, make sure that when you do eat, it’s just a small amount of food. Then wait and gradually have more.
    5. A good indication of how bad your insulin resistance may be is how long you can fast. If you can fast easily, your insulin resistance may be much better. If you can’t fast for very long, you may still have insulin resistance, and you just have to give it more time and keep working at it.
    6. I believe you should always do healthy keto with intermittent fasting. The healthy keto diet may help keep your insulin low when you do eat and may provide a wide range of health benefits. A high-carb diet could minimize the effects of intermittent fasting.
    7. It may be beneficial to do periodic prolonged fasting. Longer fasts may provide additional benefits. There are three potential benefits that people can get from doing regular intermittent fasting: weight loss, cognitive benefits, and mood benefits. But, periodic prolonged fasting could potentially support the brain and immune system, as well as provide anti-aging benefits.

I start doing intermittent fasting with Keto and I lost 15 pounds in 3 months, but most importantly, my latest mammogram and ultrasound showed that the cyst that I have in both breasts, has reduced in size, so now I am in stage 3 observation instead of stage 2. So my doctor said, whatever you are doing keep doing it. ❤

Two things I started doing a few years ago that have completely changed my life in amazing and almost unbelievable ways.
    1) Intermittent fasting 16 hours everyday & only eating healthy whole foods.
    2) 10 minute walks during morning sun light and again during evening sun light.
I sleep very well, I'm in great shape, my mood is generally great, my brain is faster, I'm more focused, I feel like I weigh ten pounds, and I feel like I'm 20 years old and full of energy all the time.
I'm 44 years old. I drank hard liquor and smoked a pack of cigarettes a day for over 20 years, and I was both a meth addict and a crack addict for several years. Obviously completely sobering up is the first step, but I still didn't feel all that great. Just doing those two things habitually has taken me to physical and mental levels that I never thought would be possible.
Don't waste any more time, you can feel great everyday. It just takes a decision, discipline, and some helpful knowledge. If you're not doing these things, I implore you to do them ASAP - start living life and enjoying it.

      @Subcoder 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@raleigh2377 The sun has to be at a significant angle, if it's more above you than from the side of you it doesn't have the same effect. It's how your brain sets your Circadian Rhythm (metabolism, hormones, mood, alertness, sleep cycle) and is the best solution for jetlag from what I've read. So depending on what time-change cycle we're in it differs, but my guess is no more than 2 hours after sunrise and no more than 2 hours before dusk. The ideal amount of time is between 10 - 30 minutes of sunlight at an angle, in the morning and afternoon.

I've been doing IF for 8 months, and I lost around 12kg (26 pounds) so far. I was 95kg (209 pounds) and now I am 83kg (182 pounds). I haven't felt this good in years. I can honestly say Dr. Berg, you saved my life. I've learned so much with your videos! Now, here's the thing. I am from Argentina, and the economy is a mess. EVERYTHING is ridiculy expensive. Especialy the food. I've reduced the amount of carbs as much as posible, but I have to live of rice and noodles, because is the cheapest food I can afford. I try to eat as much meat and butter, and some vegetables as posible, but all that is very expensive. Non the less, I've lost a lot of weight and seen some very good results with the IF. I usually do around 19 hours of fast. Sometimes more, sometimes less. But usually 19 hours. Because of this, the process of losing weight is kinda slow, but is working and that is the important. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you Dr. Berg. I only wish there were more people like you. Thank you so much, Doc!

The intermittent fasting has been a great support for weight management. I began fasting since summer 2019 and I can no longer eat breakfast 🥞. But unfortunately I gained a lot if weight during the pandemic finding myself stressed working at home, sleeping few hours and looking after my mum who was being treated for cancer. I was addicted to gluten free sugary snacks, takeaway food and red wine. I was constantly snacking throughout the day feeling hungry all the time. I gained an extra 11 kgs. This year February I changed it all by deciding to remove the post pandemic weight gain. I began working out regularly at home, I joined a gym and reduced my carb intake. Then in beginning of May end of April, I started keto combined with intermittent fasting, home exercise, gym workouts with weight lifting. The kilos starting dropping. Now my weight has decreased by little over 7kgs and I’m working on shifting another 11kgs to get out of the overweight red zone.

I’ve been doing keto with IF since I started this journey 10 months ago. I first started with IF and after a mont I started Keto and I decided to do both and I love it. Definitely recommend doing both. I just added a 3 times a week weight training workout. I work out during my fasting period in the morning. I have a lot of energy and lift so much better than I’ve ever did. It’s been 3 months and I lost a lot of inches and slimmed down a lot. Also gained muscle and I finally love how I look.

  • @RashidaBlake

I’ve lost 30lbs, improved my eyesight, and improved my schizophrenia with just intermittent fasting alone. I definitely understand the benefits of doing keto with it. That’s obviously optimal, but it just shows you how potent intermittent fasting is on its own.

Thanks for your comment. I don’t have schizophrenia, but have been curious to know the brain healing possibilities of ketones and/or fasting for problems such as that since they are so difficult to treat. And congratulations on your improvements!

    • @RashidaBlake
      @RashidaBlake 3 ปีที่แล้ว +13

I’m really curious too, as in addition to the schizophrenia, my brain had atrophied considerably for my age of 35, and I had lesions consistent with small vessel ischemia. All of this showed up on a MRI. I’m actually doing keto/carnivore now with the intermittent fasting. Actually doing OMAD. It’s just been about a week and already my mental health has improved a lot (no anxiety, improved mood, improved patience and tolerance, hard to anger, less stressed, calmer, more emotionally stable); improved digestion (no bloating, minimal belching and flatulence, and heartburn); improved skin and lips; tolerate the sun much better (I’m black and I used to feel like I was literally frying in the sun); less generalized aches; improved energy; no brain fog; improved cognition, no hunger pangs; no sugar cravings. And this is just from one week of eating this way with the intermittent fasting. So I’m curious to see if it’s also possible to reverse some of the lesions and atrophy (probably wishful thinking), but I might see about doing another MRI to see if anything has changed for the better. Thanks a lot! 🙏🏾

      @buzzweebee8685 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@RashidaBlake That's amazing the effect it has had for you. Even if it doesn't reverse the atrophy, you may just use the brain that you have better. I heard about a brain degeneration study done on nuns from a prof a while back. Apparently, there was one nun who lived to a ripe old age with no cognitive decline and after death in an autopsy, they found she had severe brain atrophy consistent with that of severe dementia but had never shown any signs.. implying that even with atrophy, it doesn't necessarily mean you can't work with what you have. I did my thesis on nutrition and dementia and nutrition is one of the major keys .. along with stress reduction which you have managed already!! :)

Dr. Berg, TY for clearing up intermittent fasting for me. I'm a morbidly obese person who just started a Low Carb diet two weeks ago. I've manage to get down to two meals a day but the only way I'm able to stop eating between meals is to eat my first meal of the day at 3pm and dinner at 7pm. this gives me 20hrs without eating or snacking and no cravings. I measure Ketones with my Ketoscan Mini breathalyzer it seems to be around 15ppm almost constantly. I am a very sedate person who gets no exercise but being able to exercise is the goal I'm working towards. Your videos are helping a lot of people, keep up the good work! I almost feel guilty about getting all this great treasure trove of information for my health and I can't afford a nutritionist or personal trainer so the whole experience is life changing for me and I have only been in keto and IF a short time. I have been on plenty of programs and diets enough to know when one is working like its supposed to. After only a few weeks I am dropping the pounds, I have greater cognitive skills, and a much better feeling of well being and energy. I have not done the extended fast yet but I am going to. Thanks again.

I started following Dr. Bergs advice for 1 month and 1 week and so far I am down 30lbs!!
I started out at 330lbs trying to use diet programs like Atkins and weight watchers and such to no avail, but all while still eating sugar and carbs. I lost maybe 10lbs and the water weight with it, I got down to maybe 300-298lbs and stayed at that loss for almost a year and was fully disgusted by it so I Quit it all and ballooned back up to 330lbs in depression. I never realized nor have ever heard of a "Fatty Liver", but After reading some articles and youtube videos I saw on it by finding Dr. Bergs advice and massive information on the benefits of not using sugar and the Keto diet, I went from plateauing for a year at 330lbs on a regular expensive diet to 272lbs with NO SUGAR AND INTERMITENT FASTING!!
I DO NOT EXERCISE THAT MUCH and I need to stress that because I am Diabetic and get dizzy or nautilus if I do not eat, so always had the fear of dropping so low I went into a diabetic coma, I kept candy around me 24/7. I was my worst enemy.
I can not tell you how depressing it is to never feel good about the way you look in your own skin, but I'm pretty sure some of you understand. I just woke up one day and said I am gonna do something about it even if it kills me, I don't care!
Then did something and it didn't help at all and felt like it made it worse.
Then I ran across Dr. Bergs videos on Weight loss and Diabetes and How a Fatty liver will keep you fat and unhealthy. How you do not NEED A DIET to lose weight, instead you work on getting the Liver Healthy First and along the way you lose weight and attain the body you always dreamed of.
I am happy to say I am almost there! I see my own abs and that is an amazing feeling to me. I pray with every fiber of my being that if you see this, just know, YOU CAN DO IT, EVEN WHEN YOUR OWN MIND IS THE ENEMY, PUSH THRU IT! THERE ARE BETTER DAYS ON THE OTHER SIDE!!!
THANK YOU DR. BERG FOR HELPING US REGAIN OUR SANITY AND LEAVE THE SUGAR TRADE!
    LOVE YOU BROTHER!

I have know about the benefit of low carb diets for some time, but never strictly followed one (some bad snacking habits in the evening). Four weeks ago I discovered IF (18/6) and started doing a Keto diet at the same time. I also starting using a calorie counting app and keep track of my calories burned with a fitness watch. I have been in a caloric deficit every day for the past four (4) weeks and have seen my weight go from 195lbs to 184lbs in that time. I only have six more pounds to lose to get to my ideal weight which is exciting. But more than that, I didn’t expect to have this much energy and clarity of mind that goes with it. This is not a fad, but a new lifestyle that I want to continue for the rest of my life. Thanks for all the great videos Dr. Berg.

I am 5 days into intermittent fasting using 18/6 upwards to 20/4 and a healthy ketosis plan. I am 42M, typically 185lbs and I would say I am “skinny-fat” but my belly is creeping over my belt. I felt so out of control with my diet. I run a service van for work and never brought my own food. My go-to “food” during the week is a 20oz Pepsi and king-size Snicker bar. Then probably more snacks too, especially at night. Any other meals I had for dinner were high carb and after dinner would be eating any available snacks in excess. I *did* cut out alcohol as Dry January and am still no alcohol as of 2/23/2023.
I feel great. By that, I mean, even on my first day of IF, I had a wonderful sense of overall positivity and almost NO negativity, anger, aggression, crabbiness or tiredness. I am more out-front with my life and I feel 1000% more in control.
Two weeks ago I felt like I was in a downward spiral, especially one day at work where I felt all of my energy leave my body, get anxious, sweating, fumbling, etc, presumably from hypoglycemia. It was terrible.
I am trying to become a scholar of my own nutrition using the plethora of amazing information supplied by Dr. Berg and this channel. I am opening myself to a new way of eating and learning to appreciate vegetables again and preparing wonderfully delicious and simple foods like seared tuna, grilled salmon, and grass-fed ribeye (approx 3-4oz serving size) . With controlling portion sizes I get several meals out of any given protein/fat source and augmenting with a lot of vegetables, sauerkraut, avocado, nuts, etc.
The American diet is so wrong and terrible and I hope, wish, and pray that I will “convince” my family to follow suit. There is no other way to true health than to implement the very basic and simple methods outlined in this process. I am on day 5 and cannot wait to see what day 50 looks like.

    The MCT was key... thx
It will definitely carry you, but stall any fat burn (at least on days you don’t exercise)

I started IF on Jan 4th, 2021 and weighed in at 192.5. Decided to check the scale on Jan 8th, and I’m now 186.8! 5.7 pounds down in FOUR days! I do the 16:8 method. It’s not as hard as ppl made me think it would be. I actually am happy I started and can see myself doing this long-term.

You will lose about 15 pounds of water weight pretty quickly. After that, probably 1 or 2 pounds a week. Stick with it & it will keep working!

Dr. Berg is a huge wealth of very good health and nutritional information. My heart had been skipping beats for 20 years, sometimes for an hour or longer. and in a video he said it could be a magnesium deficiency and it was, I have been doing keto for 9 months now and 60 pounds gone, along with several maintenance drugs. Love me some Dr. Berg.

Watch this video time after time if you are serious about weight loss. I lost 9 pounds first week on intermittent fasting. The hardest part was my urges to eat when I was not hungry which went away after 4-5 days. My appetite is changing and it's noticeable. I keep up with multivitamins since I am not sure if I am getting all the minerals and vitamins I need on a daily basis. Thank you Dr. Berg!

I do intermittent fasting for about 2 years thanks to Dr. Berg 😊and I really love it (not thinking about food all the time) But I do have a lemon juice in the morning and a coffee with a spoon of coconut milk.
Normally I do fasting for about 22 hours! ❤️🙂❤️

A friend connected me to this channel late last week. I started keto fasting with: Day 1, 18:6 (feeling hunger pains, dizzy); Day 2 18:6; today I'm on 24 hour fast (2 hours to completion), yet I don't feel hungry at all. I even did a bike ride in a forest and a walk. Feeling good and feeling a sense of mental clarity. Stood on the scales and my weight is heading down too. Thanks Dr Berg.

really good information. Ive tried to take this info and make it my own. what i mean is i just finished my first week of fasting. Im not on keto and im not working out. but im doing 23 hour fast every day. Ive also been eating whatever i want for my 1 hour of eating. the only thing im restricting is sugar and soda pop. so after my first week of fasting i lost 12 pounds. yeah in a week!
I myself cant believe ive lost that much eating garbage. Im really starting to think sugar is worse than smoking.
the idea for me is when i plateau then i will either start to restrict carbs or work out. never thought id be drinking black coffee but here i am.
I know im not following your plan correctly, its just my way of easing into it.
    thankyou Dr. berg

After coming off a long fast (48 hours or more), I've had good luck starting with some bone broth to prepare my body for some food. I would drink some bone broth, wait an hour or so and see how I'm feeling (no bloating, no nausea) then eat some solid foods slowly.

I dig Dr. Berg… I’m already practicing intermittent fasting as of 9/8/21, but i have better insight and I needed it because I’m plateauing; I have to reboot my food choices and stick to more of a keto diet; I also need to start walking and gradually get into strength training. I just want to feel and be better.

I'd start the intermittent fasting 4 days ago and I go straight to the 24h fasting and I see a great change. especially when I eat no carbs compared to eating carbs. I ate carbs yesterday as I was dining out, and today I felt hungry in the morning and all day long. with no carbs two days ago I wasn't hungry for about 22-24h
