  • 🌟 How to Clean Gold Plated Jewelry at Home 🌟
    Discover the easy 15-minute cleaning method for your gold-plated jewelry! Gold-plated accessories, also known as fashion jewelry, look just as stunning as solid gold at a fraction of the cost. Let’s explore how you can easily maintain their shine and beauty with items you already have at home.
    🔍 What You Need:
    Water
    Baking Soda
    Salt
    Aluminium foil
    Soft-bristled toothbrush
    Mild dish soap (optional)
    Cotton swab (optional)
    Clean cloth
    Bowl - preferably glass or ceramic (should be non-metallic)
    🔍 Steps to Follow:
    First, cover a heat resistant bowl with aluminium foil.
    Add 1 tablespoon of baking soda and 1 tablespoon of salt to the bowl.
    Pour 1 cup of hot but not boiling water to create your cleaning solution. Stir thoroughly.
    Next, fully immerse your gold plated accessories in the hot cleaning solution for 10 minutes. Make sure your accessories don't have fragile gemstones like pearl, onyx, or amethyst.
    Now scrub your gold plated jewelry carefully using a soft bristled brush to remove tarnish, dirt, and oil buildup in nooks and crannies.
    ou can also use a cotton swab to gently remove grime from the inside of a ring, earring, or bracelet.
    Finally, wash your gold plated jewelry with clean water and pat it dry with a lint free cloth. You can also use a jewelry cloth to buff and polish the surface for a more beautiful shine.
    If your gold plated accessories have gemstones, you can soak metal parts like chains and clean the gemstones with cotton swabs dipped in a mixture of mild dish soap and water.
    🛑 Important Tips:
    Avoid using abrasive materials or harsh chemicals that can damage the gold plating.
    Do not soak the jewelry for too long to prevent the plating from wearing off.
    Store your gold-plated jewelry in a dry place to minimize tarnishing.
    💡 What to Expect:
    This method efficiently removes dirt and grime, bringing back the shine to your gold-plated jewelry.
    Regular maintenance can significantly extend the life of your fashion jewelry.
    💧 Post-Test Care:
    Ensure your jewelry is completely dry before storing.
    Store gold-plated pieces in a cool, dry place to maintain their appearance.
    📌 Remember:
    If DIY methods don’t work, consider professional cleaning for pieces with sentimental value.
    Replating may be necessary if the gold plating is excessively worn.

    Thank you so much! I tried for months to restore my 14k gold necklace using the jewlerry cleaner liquid, dish soap, voeger and baking soda. Your recommendations was the only thing that worked! The baking soda mixture was a light brown after. Thank you friend. 😊

    How to store this gold plated silver jewellery...can u pls tell

    • @JewelryIntel
      @JewelryIntel  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We recommend storing gold-plated and silver jewelry separately in soft pouches or a zip-lock bag. You can also store them in a jewelry box with multiple compartments with a fabric-lined interior, ensuring the pieces don't scratch each other.

    When I did it it turned brown like the gold was removed😢

      There might have been a reaction with the gold plating. It happens if the plating is very thin or already heavily worn. Sometimes, homemade cleaning solutions won't work if the plating is not high quality.

      I'm so glad the method worked well for you! Adding a bit of vinegar could provide some extra cleaning power due to its acidic nature. Thank you for sharing your experience and for the lovely feedback! 💓

    i heard of a way to help delay tarnishing again is to paint a coat of clear nail polish- is this true??

    • @Tysowavy24
      @Tysowavy24 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      yes..oldest trick in the book. just don’t overdo it or it will be sticky

    • @JewelryIntel
      @JewelryIntel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah! adding a thin coat of clear nail polish to the surface of gold-plated jewelry delays tarnishing. It creates a protective barrier that shields the gold plating from exposure to elements that cause tarnish. Just also continue with regular gentle cleaning to maintain the shine. Thank you for bringing up this tip!

      Don't do this with chains though - I made this mistake and the chains became stiff!

    How would you do this for a watch?

    • @JewelryIntel
      @JewelryIntel  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Be extra careful around the watch face and any moving parts. If its not water-resistant, don't put it in the cleaning solution. Instead, just lightly dampen a soft cloth with the solution and gently wipe the gold plated areas. I use a cotton swab for hard to reach spots.

    How do you clean a rhodium plated gold rope chain?

    • @JewelryIntel
      @JewelryIntel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Usually, mild soap mixed with warm water, and a soft cloth will do the trick. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials so that the plating remains intact.

    • @LeftyMcgee808
      @LeftyMcgee808 ปีที่แล้ว

      @goldfunction thank you for the response. Could you use a ultrasonic cleaner?

    • @JewelryIntel
      @JewelryIntel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@LeftyMcgee808 It's risky because they are harsh and can sometimes damage the rhodium plating or loosen any set stones. Mild soap, warm water, and a soft cloth is safer. If your chain is really dirty, its best to have it professionally cleaned by a jeweler who's familiar with rhodium-plated pieces.

    are cubic zircon and garnet considered fragile gemstones?
    (i dont think so but theres no harm in asking)

    • @JewelryIntel
      @JewelryIntel  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question! Cubic zirconia and garnet are relatively hard gemstones; however, I recommend to err on the side of caution when cleaning jewelry with any type of gemstones to prevent any potential damage. Thank you for bringing this up!

    Can u use baking powder?

    • @JewelryIntel
      @JewelryIntel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I prefer baking soda rather than baking powder because baking soda is known for its gentle abrasive and alkaline properties which help in cleaning and restoring shine. But baking powder might not have the same effect. Thanks for your question!

    Why the tin foil?

    • @JewelryIntel
      @JewelryIntel  ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Great question! The tin foil acts as a catalyst. When combined with baking soda and hot water, it creates a reaction that removes tarnish from gold-plated jewelry. It's a nifty science trick that makes this cleaning method effective. Thank you for asking, and I hope this clears things up!
