Hi. If the necklace only sticks to the magnet at the clasp, My guess is the clasp is made of a magnetic metal, and the rest of the necklace is not. Many jewelry clasps are made from metals that are different from the main body of the jewelry piece, sometimes for durability and cost. @chrishixon3420, l too have a necklace, also a braclet to the clasp only. Is the rest of the braclet gold or brass? Acid test will probably prove it.

The clasp in necklaces has a tiny spring which is made out of steel. Magnet test is old and outdated anyway. And with a strong enough magnet some gold alloys will have a slight pull to a magnet

Many clasps have been replaced, especially in vintage jewelry.
