      You mean, soak it but not clean it with a brush? You could do that too, but would not recommend soaking it for too long. And yes, you can skip the scrubbing part if your gold item is not that dirty.

    Most fake gold is formed using non-magnetic metals! So please don't use this as a stand alone test. Usually 2 more methods more reliable than the magnet are used in addition to a simple magnet test. XRF or conductivity tests are great, but expensive is equipment needed (or a jeweler can do it for you) . Acid scratch test is one of the cheapest methods, but it marks the material.

      Hey @matthewhensley5165, thanks for your comment! I get where you're coming from. Warm water can be a bit tricky with certain types of jewelry. However, for white gold, warm water is usually safe and effective, especially when it's not too hot and mixed with a mild dishwashing liquid. It helps to loosen up dirt and grime. But yeah, it's always good to be cautious, especially with delicate pieces or those with sensitive gemstones. 😊🌟

    • @JewelryIntel
      @JewelryIntel 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi. If the necklace only sticks to the magnet at the clasp, My guess is the clasp is made of a magnetic metal, and the rest of the necklace is not. Many jewelry clasps are made from metals that are different from the main body of the jewelry piece, sometimes for durability and cost. Gold itself is not magnetic, so if the main part of your necklace doesn't stick to a magnet, it could mean that it's real gold. Still, I recommend trying other testing methods to be more certain. • @JewelryIntel

      Great question! The tin foil acts as a catalyst. When combined with baking soda and hot water, it creates a reaction that removes tarnish from gold-plated jewelry. It's a nifty science trick that makes this cleaning method effective. Thank you for asking, and I hope this clears things up!
